Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Yoloohno - what a nightmare. Hope she gets her grade back up and if not finds some other good options. It is such a roller coaster when they shift the goal posts like that at a late stage. They do say it is worth putting in one or two above the predictions but it does feel a bit risky.

HappySonHappyMum · 09/12/2022 15:26

Had an email for today to say that my DD has been offered a place after interview and to check UCAS but there's no offer on there as yet. Does anyone know when UCAS is updated? We are itching to know what this offer is as it's my DDs favourite Uni!

Yoloohno · 09/12/2022 16:32

Ok we have progress and all being well the application will be going in next week.

Her grade seems unlikely to be changed however we used an early finish to ring around admissions.

it looks like her top 2 choices may consider the UCAS points for the EPQ, she’s very grateful that she chose to do it last year.

A third choice will take the number of UCAS points she’s been predicted.

And we are changing one of her choices that may give her a contextual offer from conversation about 3 grades lower than the advertised tariff.

I think we’re both feeling slightly l relieved.

Chickydoo · 09/12/2022 16:37

At long last the form has been submitted
Now the wait...predictions A * A A*
(Not sure if that worked 2xA star 1XA)
Applying for Economics at Bath,Leeds,Nottingham, York and Southampton.
Hopefully the offers will come in before too long.

NotDonna · 09/12/2022 18:38

@blametheparents its probably that she has chosen 5 that don’t start the process until after the deadline. What is she looking to study?
@Yoloohno that sounds a tadge stressful but she’s done well ringing around and sitting out!

blametheparents · 09/12/2022 19:02

@NotDonna - Hopefully! She’s applied for PPE which we know is pretty popular.would be nice to get an offer before Xmas! Though maybe not likely …

blametheparents · 09/12/2022 19:04

@Chickydoo - My DS has just finished an economics degree at Nottingham. He loved it there. Best of luck to
your DC.

OriginalFlake · 09/12/2022 19:24

DD got an offer from Durham today they want AAB which is lower than the A*AA they asked for. Now we’re down to waiting on Edinburgh which is annoyingly first choice.

blametheparents · 09/12/2022 19:43

@OriginalFlake - That’s great news! Do you mind me asking which course your DD has applied for?

OriginalFlake · 09/12/2022 19:48

@blametheparents MChem. We already have offers from QUB, Herriot Watt and Glasgow. She has her heart set on Edinburgh though. I have a feeling they are going to make us wait.

Selok · 09/12/2022 20:00

@OriginalFlake do you mind me asking when did your DC apply as my DD applied to QUB for Bsc chemistry, hasn't heard yet she applied a week ago! She already got offers from Reading and Nottingham. Thanks

OriginalFlake · 09/12/2022 20:46

@Selok mid November. Where else did she apply to? The wait is nerve wracking isn’t it? Imagine how we’ll be for the actual results!

Selok · 09/12/2022 22:36

@OriginalFlake thanks so maybe another week or in the new year then!! She applied to Exeter, Nottingham, Reading, Southampton and QUB- got conditional offers from Notts and Reading so far!
And yes tell me about it! I guess we are all on the same boat, I can't even imagine the August results day wait ConfusedConfused

Yoloohno · 09/12/2022 22:58

I’m looking at taking annual leave results day, if the last 24 hours has taught me anything it’s a total dynamic unpredictable process.

Fortunately her course choice will mean she’ll find something, but she wants big northern town universities. Mostly former polys.

WendyWebersdrugget · 10/12/2022 17:43

I know what you mean! I’m already feeling nervous about results day and the mocks aren’t even till January! DS is annoyingly chilled about coursework deadlines, too.
Getting tantalisingly close to form being done. DS has decided on his 5 choices, opted for Sociology and philosophy joint at all of them as far as I can tell. His sociology teacher is in charge of his references and loves his EPQ choice as well as his degree choice, so hopefully it will all sound positive.

KittyMcKitty · 10/12/2022 20:01

Where did he opt for @WendyWebersdrugget ? My dd has applied for sociology (and my ds is already at Uni doing Politics and Philosophy).

OP posts:
WendyWebersdrugget · 10/12/2022 20:43

He has gone for: UCL, LSE, Manchester, Southampton and Bristol. Manchester is his top choice at the moment.

KittyMcKitty · 10/12/2022 21:01

Ds is at Manchester- Sociology and Philosophy will be the same Dept as him - BASS. They have a great range of modules and you can select from other disciplines (ds is taking a sociology module next semester).

Dd applied to Durham,York, Lancaster, Sheffield and Birmingham for sociology.

OP posts:
WendyWebersdrugget · 11/12/2022 00:34

Yes, the BASS really appeals to him. Just keeping my fingers crossed that Manchester makes an offer.

NotDonna · 12/12/2022 08:53

I’m assuming there’ll be a hiatus now until after new year and then I guess they could just wait until the deadline.

Chickydoo · 13/12/2022 09:57

First offer for DC today.
UCAS form only went in on Friday!
Nottingham for economics.
Excited!

hellypad · 13/12/2022 13:29

@Chickydoo DD got her first offer yesterday too from Nottingham, they are really on the ball aren't they Smile Nice to have an offer to steady the nerves and confirm she hasn't made any mistakes on the form

NotDonna · 13/12/2022 15:54

Yeah!! @Chickydoo and @hellypad thats a lovely Xmas pressie.

Riverpebble · 13/12/2022 16:16
