Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

Re the offer holder days, DC will go alone to the one at Hull (couldn't get to open day due to train strike) in Feb half-term as I'll have the other kids on school holiday too.

They'll prob go to the Staffs offer holder day alone but it depends on what date it is, we went to the open day already so it's familiar.

Those are the only 2 offer holder days that DC will be going to, after that a decision will be made...

NotDonna · 07/12/2022 06:18

Given York is a trek for us and will require an overnight stay I’ll go with her and if there’s nothing on for parents I’ll mooch around the city. We’ll book their last session in March so it doesn’t interfere with her Feb mocks. It’ll be her insurance and we missed the open day so it’ll be good to visit. Loughborough haven’t mentioned an offer holder day but given we went to the open day she can do that alone or may not want to bother depending if Bath offer. Bath will be her 1st choice.

Ciri · 07/12/2022 06:23

They’re just more focussed open days. Most kids have their parents there

Neversaygoodbye · 07/12/2022 07:26

DD UCAS has now been with college for 2 weeks, all approved as far as we're aware. It's exciting to see other's getting offers but very frustrating and difficult not to feel that she could potentially be missing out despite all the reassurances that they give equal consideration.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/12/2022 10:04

Neversaygoodbye - we are frustratingly in the same position. Nothing we can do about it. I hope the school/college are taking their time because they are be thorough with their checking and references and keep in mind that the real deadline is still seven weeks away.

Neversaygoodbye · 07/12/2022 10:28

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun thank you, it's reassuring to know we're not alone! I'm terribly impatient and trying very hard to pull back & not keep asking DD for updates.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 07/12/2022 10:42

You are doing better than me then 😂. I am also very impatient and starting to doubt it will be be before Christmas.

Travelban · 07/12/2022 13:15

Well done to all with offers and just a note of reassurance that despite putting our application in a month ago, we are still waiting for most of them. Newcastle and UCL still haven't replied and Manchester is an interview next week.

I gather from DD that this is normal.as some of her friends who were early applicants still haven't heard from quite a few unis.

Titsywoo · 07/12/2022 21:29

DD has her 3rd offer - Manchester this time grades AAA.

Nothing from Exeter and Cardiff although apparently Cardiff admissions dept are now closed for xmas so certainly won't be hearing from them this year.

Well done to all those DC with offers and patience to all those still waiting!

hotmilkytea · 07/12/2022 22:07

Congrats to you DD @Titsywoo which are her favourites?

Patience to those still waiting to submit. Logically we know it doesn't make a differ, as long as they meet the Jan deadline, it just feels good getting the form done and submitted, and looking forward to some offers!

troppibambini6 · 08/12/2022 10:21

It's so lovely to see all the offers coming in!
Dd has had 4 offers so far-

Man-A star A A
Liverpool- AAA
Sheffield- AAA
Newcastle- AAA

Still waiting on her first choice of Leeds but have resigned ourselves that it's probably going to be January. Newcastle is her second choice so she's pleased to have that.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 08/12/2022 15:43

Wow - well done to Titsywoo and Troppibambini6's DC. Hope you hear from the last ones soon. Interesting to hear that Cardiff's admission department is closed until January. That is on DS's list so helps with expectations.

hotmilkytea · 08/12/2022 17:14

Well done @troppibambini6 DD on those offers! Fingers crossed the Leeds one comes in soon. There's still time before Christmas.....

DinkyDaisy · 08/12/2022 18:25

Ds got offers from Bath and York. Standard but with grade reduction on both for epq. Also, invited to do 18 hour access course with Bath as flagged up, probably due to secondary school.
Surrey, Essex, and Royal Holloway to go.
Surrey favourite on open day. Not been to RH. Recently been to Essex and got good feeling. Loved York City but not sure about university. Hope hear from others before Christmas...

PhotoDad · 08/12/2022 18:27

Well done to everyone!! Of my bunch of applicants (as a UCAS referee) one still hasn't heard back from anywhere, and he was about the first to send off his form!

cptartapp · 08/12/2022 18:42

Offers from Lancaster and Liverpool now in for Mchem to add to York, with acceptance of a dropped grade for Lancaster if he firms them. Probably his least favourite atm though.

Travelban · 08/12/2022 18:46

Well done everyone ! Dd now has had Newcastle offer too, so only UCL left and the Manchester interview next week. Eeeek

mightyducks · 08/12/2022 20:12

Well a week on my DD has heard nothing…

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/12/2022 21:02

DD's sixth form college have set tomorrow as a deadline for personal statements etc to be submitted and have sat on them until they are all in. DD has hers written and is frustrated, but at least next week they will have hopefully looked at them and it can be completed and sent off.

Riverpebble · 08/12/2022 21:05

mightyducks · 08/12/2022 20:12

Well a week on my DD has heard nothing…

Maybe she's picked later decision makers? We are still waiting on two nearly five weeks later

sammyjoanne · 08/12/2022 22:41

@cptartapp My eldest studies at Lancaster (particle physics), she loves the uni, the course, the support and the city. Youngest also applied for Lancaster for next year(zoology) but is least fave on the list. Youngest does love the uni, but course modules were better at other unis.
Eldest did also apply to York and was a fan of that uni too. They are both very similar with them being a collegiate

sammyjoanne · 08/12/2022 22:56

To the parents waiting on thier DC colleges and sixth forms to approve/references, I can relate. DD2 finished her PS end of October, and it took a week to get that approved by the teachers, then a further 2 weeks to get the references done. It was such a faff her having to chase them all up.
The coming back of offers really did vary. Its all down to course and the department and how long their admissions take.

Ciri · 08/12/2022 23:12

Riverpebble · 08/12/2022 21:05

I wouldn’t worry. Now is peak time for submission as kids try to get them in before Christmas. So the offer rate will slow right down due to the volume being considered and the fact that universities will shut down for Christmas. If you submit at the beginning you’re likely to get a faster answer simply because there aren’t as many applications sitting on the desk to be considered.

Yoloohno · 08/12/2022 23:39

Well we went to submit today and they’ve reduced one of dd predicted grades, so she’s off to try and beg them to increase it if not it’ll be back to the drawing board with the application process.

None of her choices will take into account she already has an EPQ and no special considerations.

To say I’m gutted for her is an understatement.

Well done to all those with offers, hopefully the stress is reduced.

blametheparents · 09/12/2022 00:14

mightyducks · 08/12/2022 20:12

Well a week on my DD has heard nothing…

@mightyducks - Same here!
Had really hoped to hear something by now!
DD has really tried not to have a favourite choice, as she knows she’s applied for a competitive course, but she definitely has 3 of the 5 that she prefers!
