Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

There is no large central students Union social area on campus though because the colleges have bars and the Sugar House university club is in town.

SmartWatch · 24/11/2022 17:15

do we know when the offer holder days are for Lancaster yet? DS says he hasnt seen an email.

KittyMcKitty · 24/11/2022 17:46

I don’t think so - dd hasn’t said anything about dates for any of her offers - she wants to go to the one at York too.

How do the colleges work Ciri? Do you get allocated one or is there an element of choice?

Grin Lets hope they don't find out he's my child then. I spent most of my 3 years in Lonsdale bar!

lol my eldest DD studies there and is a Grizedalian. Shes a 3rd year, and just been to the housing fair. She might go for chancellors wharf or back to campus for final year. Think shes spent more time in pendle bar than grizedales lol

@sammyjoanne might be better placed to answer that one. 30 years ago there was less variation in the accommodation (some of the colleges have now moved) and I think we might have been allocated but now I think you get to say what type of accommodation you want and that would dictate your college to an extent.

sammyjoanne · 24/11/2022 20:43

@SmartWatch my eldest DD joined in 2019 and from what I know the process has not changed. In June the accommodation portal opens up and you have to choose accommodation type in one college, and accommodation type in a different college. You cannot have two accommodations under one college.

She chose
Townhouse - County
Townhouse - Grizedale.

You could have say a Standard in bowland/ ensuite in fylde. Or Superior ensuite Cartmel/standard pendle. Which ever you want of accommodation is fine, as long as its different colleges :) Come around 7-10 days after results day your DC will get notified which college they are in, and to accept the terms and conditions of the accommodation and to pay the deposit. After that DC move in around back end of September :)

sammyjoanne · 24/11/2022 20:48

@Ciri thanks :) its nice to see a few potential lancastrians hopefully for next year. It is a lovely city and uni :)

St. Andrews, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool for earth sciences

All great uni’s! My ds is a Manchester (studying Politics and Philosophy) and a number of his friends are at Bristol- all having a great experience.

Hi everyone, another ex Lancastrian here. I went around 30 years ago and absolutely loved it. Dd applying there as well as Manchester, UCL, Newcastle and Liverpool to study Spanish and Latin American studies (or a variation of). All her unis match exactly her ABB predictions.

Submitted by school on Monday and today had an interview for Manchester. Haven't heard from any of the others yet

Good luck everyone !!!

Riverpebble · 25/11/2022 14:28

We have an offer from Manchester

Titsywoo · 25/11/2022 15:44

DDs UCAS has finally been submitted by the college. Well done to all those DC who have offers already! 👏

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 25/11/2022 17:10

DS personal statement has been finalised by him and approved by his tutor. It’s gone in for final approval now which apparently may take some time. Intense week for him getting the wording and number of characters fine tuned. Wonder if any of the universities will read it!

ChnandlerBong · 25/11/2022 18:11

@ShowMeABrexitBonus ah that is interesting - how long did the offers take as ds's form has just gone in this week and it would make for a happier house if he had a couple in the bag 🙄
@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun agree entirely - we had multiple versions of the personal statement being reviewed by multiple staff members. I don't actually believe anyone will read it for Engineering so feels like a huge waste of stress...

@ChnandlerBong Newcastle and Nottingham in the week the application went in. Bristol this week so three weeks after form went in. Could be that the first two happened to catch the right point in their application processing cycle. They all do it a bit differently!

SmartWatch · 25/11/2022 20:52

Omg don't talk to me about the bloody ps and different teachers reviewing it. God that was tedious. DS had points where one person was saying take this bit out and another was saying add this bit about the bit the other one had said take out! It drove ds mad. Anyway we got there in the end. School submitted it late last Friday and I'm amazed to report that he now has all 5 offers in. Wasn't expecting it to be so quick. Am wondering if it's to do with the strikes and them wanting to get a batch out first. All were at published grades or bottom of the range where there was a range. No Durham or other notoriously slower ones in there.

RainBow725 · 26/11/2022 08:58

All 5 offers in here now too. That's taken about 2.5 weeks. Great to have the full range to choose from. I expect it will be a flurry of offers over the next few weeks for those still waiting. Now for a serious look at the course content for DS before making the final decisions. Oh and then revision!

PhotoDad · 26/11/2022 09:05

As a teacher I've been assigned 6 students to help with UCAS. They have all submitted. Some hear back immediately... one of the very strongest applicants who submitted it early still has no replies. This happens every year. So please don't panic if everyone else seems to be getting offers!! and congrats to those who have heard!

NotDonna · 26/11/2022 20:56

DDs went in Thursday and yesterday had acknowledgments from all of hers. Even that’s reassuring!

Travelban · 27/11/2022 08:08

Dd now has her first offer.from.Liverpool, it took 5 days. 4 more to go....!
