Is there an applying for 2023 thread which isn’t early entry

1000 replies

KittyMcKitty · 01/11/2022 20:35

I can see there’s the Oxbridge one but dd isn’t an early entry applicant.

anyway she’s finally submitted her UCAS I know school have added the reference so imagine it’ll be off in a day or so 🤞🏻

Shes applying for sociology and has applied to:
Durham
York
Lancaster
Sheffield
Birmingham

her predicted grades comfortably exceed all the standard offers so I hope she gets some offers (and please please please let Durham offer!!).

anyone else waiting?

@NotDonna fortunately no LNAT for any of the unis she's applied to.

Whatever she said worked as application went in end of last week and we've had 2 offers. One from Newcastle and one from Manchester.

Leeds is her first choice and Newcastle her second.

Think there is someone else on here waiting for Leeds law too... I remember reading that they wait until all applications are in before offering so we will probably be in for a wait.

NotDonna · 27/11/2022 14:19

Ooh first one in @Travelban exciting! And so pleased law is coming in quickly too @troppibambini6

Titsywoo · 28/11/2022 18:12

First offer in for DD after submitting on Friday. Bournemouth Uni asking for 112 UCAS points which is way below her predicted of AAA and the lowest they appear to offer. It's not in her top 2 but still good to have!

She also got her EPQ grade back and got an A* so very happy 😃

Neversaygoodbye · 28/11/2022 18:25

Wow great news all round. It's lovely seeing offers coming in. We're in limbo waiting for college to do their bit now with the UCAS application, although received confirmation it's all been approved.

NotDonna · 28/11/2022 18:49

Yeah @Titsywoo on the offer & the A*
DD received her first offer today (York) after putting in her Ucas on Thursday. So quick! They lowered the grades so she has her insurance option.
She thought the mocks would be after December but they’ve changed them to after Feb half term. I’m guessing they’re hoping that most of the content will have been covered by then.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/11/2022 21:15

We are also in limbo waiting for the tutor at sixth form college to do their bit. Complicated by the original teacher designated to DD and a group of others leaving, and them having to wait for a replacement teaching instead of someone else doing it for them. They started Fri so hopefully they know what they are doing now.

HappySonHappyMum · 28/11/2022 21:55

Jut found this thread so hoping I can join. My DD submitted her UCAS on the 9th November by 16th she had 5 interviews scheduled for Primary Ed. She's had three interviews so far one in person and two via Zoom and got three offers - the next two interviews are the most important though as these are the two she really wants so we have everything crossed. I'm pleased she submitted early as all interviews will be done by the end of next week and she can concentrate on revising for mocks and not worrying about interviews! The offers are making her feel wanted so it's been good for her self esteem and really giving her something to work towards.

Ciri · 28/11/2022 22:46

Another offer in for ds. Exeter which is his favourite so he’s pleased.

deathbollywood · 28/11/2022 23:07

Do the teachers check allthe details on the UCAS form? DS sent his without me seeing it.

mumofthree22 · 29/11/2022 00:14

@deathbollywood my DS's teacher went through the whole form together with him before it was submitted. Glad they did as he had missed a couple of details off.

PhotoDad · 29/11/2022 01:30

When the student clicks "submit" it gets sent to the assigned referee who attaches the reference and the predicted grades. When the referee clicks "submit" it gets sent to the designated UCAS lead in the school/college. It's only when that person clicks "submit" that it gets sent to UCAS. So in theory everything gets double-checked!

SmartWatch · 29/11/2022 09:34

Can the schoolmate the application once it's been submitted i.e see what offers have been received @PhotoDad or do they have to tell their teachers what offers they did or didn't get?

SmartWatch · 29/11/2022 09:35

School! Don't know why AC changed that to schoolmate!

PhotoDad · 29/11/2022 10:30

@SmartWatch The school UCAS lead and the student's referee can see offers. However, they don't get notified when the status is updated anywhere (unlike students who get an email) and so once all the forms are away, teachers will probably only check once a week or less (it's a bit of a faff with two-factor authentication etc etc). So it's nice for students to keep their referee updated!

KittyMcKitty · 29/11/2022 13:15

Congratulations to everyone who has offers - amazing and those still waiting I hope you hear soon.

no change here - dd submitted just over 3 weeks ago and has 4 offers and still waiting on Durham … I know it’s early days and Durham can take their time but we have everything crossed. Does anyone know if any non contextual home offers from Durham this year? There don’t seem to be any on the student room and non of ds’s friends have received offers from them. Hope they don’t keep her waiting too long 🤞🏻

Hi, I've also just found this thread, hope I can join you all.

I've got DC2 in Year 13 doing UCAS this year. Been through it with DC1 but it wasn't they main focus as they wanted to go to university abroad. But for DC2, this is the main focus, so there will be a lot of steps we won't have done!

After some serious faffing at school (really surprising, school is usually super efficient), we paid and submitted Thursday and school added reference and submitted Friday.

Imagine to DC's surprise, all 5 offers yesterday 😱!

The caveat is that none are Russell Group or super popular unis, but still, I've never heard of such a thing happening!

Apologies to those still waiting, absolutely not here to boast or crow, but rather give mutual support to everyone, and hopefully glean some useful tips and info too.

Good luck to all those waiting for offers and congrats to those with offers already!

NotDonna · 29/11/2022 14:23

@hotmilkytea your post isn’t remotely boasting it’s fabulous to read all 5 offers in so quickly and that some universities offer quickly thus reducing stress.
Don’t hold your breath @KittyMcKitty Durham are notorious for incredibly late offers. She’ll need to hold her nerve. I remember in DD1s year a lot gave up around Easter time and firmed alternatives as they wanted to be on the accommodation waitlists incase Durham rejected. I guess their approach weeds out the ones that aren’t that bothered with Durham. I’ve no idea what their actual rationale is as it does seem a tadge mean.

NotDonna · 29/11/2022 14:26

@hotmilkytea oops I meant to ask what course? Also intrigued as to where abroad yoyr DC1 went and which course (just being curious!)

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/11/2022 15:05

Having nearly dropped a predicted grade DS is now maybe going up a grade in another subject. If so it changes where he will apply. The school are still working on their final checks of his personal statement. They are helping him and do know what they are doing but it does all seem unnecessarily stressful.

ludge · 29/11/2022 15:33

DS application went in last Wednesday and first offer from Newcastle came through today - phew!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/11/2022 15:38

Hotmilkytea - that’s amazing. DC must be chuffed.

DinkyDaisy · 29/11/2022 16:15

My ds got his approved today. He has been told he is being pessimistic with grade tariff of universities chosen. However, he really likes a lower tariff one with course offered. I guess not put a stretch in there. Highest is on his predicted and not his favourite...
He is deferring so could go with favourite (if offered) but rethink if need be and reapply with grades.

NotDonna · 29/11/2022 18:01

That’s the thing isn’t it @DinkyDaisy if they’re really liking a course and university that’s the main thing but it’s a worry if they’re doing themselves a disservice. Given he’s deferring he could have a closer look next year to see if there’s anywhere ‘better’ that he fancies within his grades.
great to receive the first offer isn’t it @ludge? well done to your DC!
@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun so what’s happening? Does he really need to re-look at courses? If one is up and the other is down, as long as the courses aren’t specific about a grade in a particular subject then the general profile is fine. Is he having a change of heart?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 29/11/2022 18:16

He is thinking of applying for a course with a standard offer at the higher grades that he is now predicted. He wasn't going to apply for anything above his predictions but now that they are a bit better there is a university he would like to try for.

KittyMcKitty · 29/11/2022 18:23

@SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun i think the most important thing is applying to courses / unis he genuinely wants to go to. Everything dd has applied to is below her predicted grades but these were the courses she liked.

I hope he gets some great offers.
