Feel free for placemarking :)

Oh bless her @Daisysway hope she gets through them ok and has some small amount of downtime too.

specialted · 02/04/2023 16:53

@Daisysway that sounds very heavy going!

Daisysway · 02/04/2023 17:24

Yes it is going to be a tough few weeks for her.

In September her gran passed away and she was in a pretty dire mental health state (she'd had a very tough house share in the 2nd yr). I think she chose modules with assessment at the end of course to give her time to recover mentally (3rd yr started with an horrendous all week lab which was a high % of the marks which she found tough going - understandably so because of her grans funeral the week before).

She's had CBT sessions since October and she's mentally in a better place ...she's completed one essay and happy with it and there are a few of the essays that sort of interlink so she's feeling positive...she's also home and im making sure she has good food (plus breaks)and finishes everyday at 8pm.

Its very quiet in the house though!

Dd1 is at home with dd2 keeping her company (she’s nearly 18) as we are away this time. Both revising for exams so they have enough on at the moment. Dd1 has one year after this if she gets the grades as she’s close to a 2:2 so she’s worried she won’t make 4th year . She had put in effort in coursework and supervisor thinks she can average a 63 over 2nd &3rd year. Fingers crossed , as she put a lot into this.

DD hands her dissertation in tomorrow .. on its due date, of course!

I have purchased an outfit for her graduation, hopefully I’ve not jumped the gun on that.

KingscoteStaff · 16/04/2023 22:03

DS headed back up this evening - 7 days to go until Dis Day, plus a bit of pre-season cricket.

My god daughter is writing her dissertation on a subject I actually understand, so we’ve been having excellent chats about Edwardian literature! DS’s subject - not so much…

DS’s graduation is 10am on Tuesday, so I’m having to ask for 2 days off work. Fingers crossed…

aibutohavethisusername · 16/04/2023 22:11

@KingscoteStaff hope all goes well with their dissertations.

When is graduation? DD is in September.

KingscoteStaff · 16/04/2023 22:19

July 4th. If that’s a Tuesday!

Daisysway · 27/04/2023 17:17

Well dd managed to complete all her 10 essays by late last night with 10hrs to spare till the deadline...she's literally been glued to her laptop for the last 26 days apart from a day off on her 21st.

Back to Uni at lunchtime today and she and her fellow Life Sciences friends will be painting Leamington red tonight!

Super proud that she just knuckled down despite missing out on so many family celebrations...although i have booked a big family meal in a few weeks time.

She has a week off and then its back to writing her dissertation..

Hope all other students are well.

aibutohavethisusername · 27/04/2023 19:23

Glad to hear that your daughter managed to get the essays all completed @Daisysway.

DD has an exam that finishes tomorrow and one next week too (online exams).

specialted · 28/04/2023 07:30

@Daisysway phew, that's impressive! Hope exams go ok for everyone.
Meanwhile ds is off to York for varsity This weekend. Drinking beer rather than playing sport . Think exams start in a couple of weeks!?!?!

aibutohavethisusername · 05/05/2023 23:27

And just like that dd has finished!

redspottedmug · 06/05/2023 08:26

Goodness, well done. DS1 will be finishing his placement year in the summer, then back to uni for 3rd and 4th years in the autumn - five years in total for his MEng. In the meantime DS2 will graduate next summer. DD will graduate at the same time as DS1 and is already planning her Masters.

A long slog for your then.

DD has applied to teach English in S Korea for a year, results permitting.

LIZS · 06/05/2023 13:25

Dd has another year before graduating but is starting to look at postgrad options.

What is she interested in doing @LIZS

LIZS · 06/05/2023 13:40

Speech and language therapy - relatively few courses and not all take new graduates.

specialted · 07/05/2023 08:41

Well done to all those graduating! Can't believe it! Ds just coming to end of second year, so one more year to go. He has absolutely no idea what he wants to do after graduating, I'm guessing he'll take time to let the dust settle and think about it . Pointed out he'd be funding himself at that point which may speed up the process! He's still working at aldi which has boosted his savings a bit.

aibutohavethisusername · 07/05/2023 10:36

@LIZS that will be amazing.

@specialted I understand. DD has had her supermarket job since college apart from the first few months of Uni. Living at home for the second two years has meant she has saved lots.

KingscoteStaff · 08/05/2023 08:50

Dissertation is in, last essay due on Wed, then just 2 online exams.

I now know how to footnote and how to alphabetise a bibliography!

sammyjoanne · 08/05/2023 21:57

DD1 is on 7 out of 9 exams currently. Shes got flavour physics next week and cosmology the week after, then shes back home for a week with us. After that shes got a presentation of her 3rd year phys group project 6th of June. So far she thinks shes done good on 5 of them, 1 of them fair to middling and 1 not so great. Hopefully its enough to get to the 4th year of her integrated masters. If not, she will have to revisit her options.

Just popping back to the thread to wish all the young people good luck in their finals/third year exams.

DS3 has 5 exams starting next week. He’s already completed two thirds of his course - this is the final third. Seems to be on course for a 2:1 which is great. He wants to do teacher training but will take a gap year next year, maybe working as a TA or supermarket/bar work if not. He’s staying up in Manchester. I’m a bit sad but there is more opportunity and cheaper housing up there compared to here in Gloucestershire.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 09/05/2023 19:08

Oh, I was also MillicentMartha! 😊

QuintanaRoo · 09/05/2023 19:19

I feel like I’m holding my breath for the last few weeks, dd has so much work to hand in/complete. The course forgot to teach them a whole module and only realised when Dd went and told them in about March, two weeks before an assessment submission that they’d had no teaching. Course leader didn’t believe her at first and now they’re trying to cram a years worth of teaching and assessment into two months! 🙈. On top of their other assessments.

QuintanaRoo · 09/05/2023 19:21

Her final project also relies on silk worms spinning silk fast enough……the worms are on their way in the post (hundreds of them) but haven’t arrived yet. 🙈
