Medicine 2022 - Decision time!

Monkey2001 · 27/01/2022 14:26

Support thread for aspiring medics.

We want all our DCs to succeed, whatever their school type. We share knowledge to help them to achieve their goals, celebrate success and support if things don't go well.

Lots of interviews now done, fingers crossed for lots of offers, but we know it is a tough year and that most applicants will have a bumpy ride. Best of luck everyone!

Congratulations @kackle - I would say say you can now relax ( but we know you can't !) well done x

HoneyMobster · 25/02/2022 22:49

Hurray @kackle - my alma mater so I know it's a great place 😊

Monkey2001 · 26/02/2022 09:15

Congratulations @kackle, great news! Is it her first choice?

Hope all this success continues for the rest of our DC. Someone on TSR said Newcastle told them they would be starting next week.

We are waiting for Newcastle too!

KingscoteStaff · 26/02/2022 12:35

That’s great @kackle - my first job after university was in Edinburgh and I’d go back like a shot!

withiceplease · 26/02/2022 12:37

Congratulations on the offers coming through to all😊
Friends daughter got a UCL offer today 🎉🎉

BunnyRuddington · 28/02/2022 08:34

don't we have a Plymouth applicant on here

Yes we do. Unfortunately DS didn’t get an offer. So far he’s had 3 interviews. One rejection pre-interview and 2 rejections post interview. Still waiting on Sheffield. I’m going to feel so sorry for him if he has to take a gap year whilst all of his mates go to Uni but he’s determined that he wants o do Medicine.

notmedicmum · 28/02/2022 09:28

@BunnyRuddington we are in a similar position. One rejection pre interview, one post (Plymouth) but waiting to hear from the other two. Really don’t relish the prospect of gap year but will reassess once all the decisions come in.

Monkey2001 · 28/02/2022 10:26

@BunnyRuddington and @notmedicmum sorry to hear that. Were either of them waitlisted? It is horrible watching these bright kids who have always done so well not getting offers. I hope that if they do end up on gap years their experiences will be as positive as it was for DS who had a good gap year (in spite of Covid) and now feels it all worked out for the best.

I think it is helpful if both good and bad news is shared on here - if only good news is shared rejections feel less normal when they arrive, so thanks for letting us know.

DD was a straight no from Plymouth. She has an offer from HYMS, waiting to hear back from Birmingham interview and still waiting on Keele.

HoneyMobster · 28/02/2022 15:12

According to TSR Newcastle offers should start coming out at the end of this week. There is a screenshot...

Dagbonunion · 28/02/2022 16:15

@BunnyRuddington-My DD is in a similar situation, happy to take a gap year.
UCL was a rejection pre-interview.
SGUL was a NO after interview
Waiting for Barts and Brighton.Thank you to @Monkey2001 for all the advice and everyone here, she is prepared to take a Gap here

BunnyRuddington · 01/03/2022 07:44

No waiting list place unfortunately. One rejection pre-interview and two straight rejections post interview. I currently have everything crossed right now.

KingscoteStaff · 01/03/2022 16:17

Newcastle and Birmingham offers on TSR.....

BunnyRuddington · 01/03/2022 17:02

Newcastle and Birmingham offers on TSR.....

Good luck to all of those waiting for a place at either of these.

@BunnyRuddington

Newcastle and Birmingham offers on TSR.....

Good luck to all of those waiting for a place at either of these.

But don't get too excited yet, they will be releasing decisions over the next 3 weeks, so resilience is required!

DD has Birmingham offer - after being convinced she utterly cocked up the interview! And her last mock this morning, so a good day all round.

HoneyMobster · 01/03/2022 20:12

Stars for mini @KingscoteStaff - so pleased!

kackle · 01/03/2022 21:31

Nothing as yet from Newcastle. Feel so anxious on behalf of my DC

KingscoteStaff · 01/03/2022 22:17

@kackle When was your DC's Newcastle interview? The only offers on TSR seem to be from pre-Christmas interviews (or maybe that's a completely random coincidence...)

Monkey2001 · 01/03/2022 22:30

Great news @KingscoteStaff, she is going to have to choose!

I think the Newcastle offers so far are all WP, Partners or International.

Mid December. :(

Ours is a partners apication. Feel sick with netves. Its not looking good
opoponax · 02/03/2022 08:00

Congratulations to your DD @KingscoteStaff. Choices ahead! FWIW last year with Newcastle, there didn't seem to be any correlation between interview timing and offers. DS had friends with earlier interviews and later offers. It all started with a batch of grad offers reported on TSR on the last Friday in Feb (I think there was one reported Y13 standard offer too) and then nothing over the weekend and on Monday 1st March some Y13 offers (DS got one) but no reported WP or Partners ones, which seemed to come out in subsequent mixed batches. The offers came out in batches until May.

HoneyMobster · 02/03/2022 08:05

@kackle - would you DC prefer Newcastle over Edinburgh then?
