Medicine 2022 - Decision time!

Support thread for aspiring medics.

We want all our DCs to succeed, whatever their school type. We share knowledge to help them to achieve their goals, celebrate success and support if things don't go well.

Lots of interviews now done, fingers crossed for lots of offers, but we know it is a tough year and that most applicants will have a bumpy ride. Best of luck everyone!

Great news BabbleBee

speedyhedgehog · 16/02/2022 00:12

Yay congratulations babblesbees dd (and babblebee). Well done!

coffeeandbiscuittime · 16/02/2022 01:11

Congratulations @BabbleBee , the relief must be huge. Well done to your DD.

BabbleBee · 16/02/2022 06:59

Thanks again everyone.

It’s a strange feeling. Delighted, of course and so proud of her for fighting for what she wants but at the same time…. She’s going to be a long way from home 🥲

notmedicmum · 16/02/2022 07:32

Just seen your message. Belated congratulations @BabbleBee!

Solarlantern · 16/02/2022 08:03

Congratulations @BabbleBee!

Hopefully the offers are slowly starting to come out now - does anyone know the outcome of the med schools' meeting last week - presumably some sort of consistency of approach re over- offering/waitlisting this year?

Grunty79 · 18/02/2022 08:31

My dd got an offer from Dundee☺️☺️☺️so grateful to all of you for all the guidance and support ❤️ it really helps so much to make sense of the whole complicated and stressful process ❤️

HoneyMobster · 18/02/2022 08:35

Excellent news @Grunty79 - is that her first choice?

DD just has her Bristol interview to go on Monday. Waiting for Leeds and Newcastle decisions. I think if she is fortunate enough to have a choice she'll firm Oxford and insure with Leeds.

BabbleBee · 18/02/2022 09:09

Fabulous news @Grunty79

Monkey2001 · 18/02/2022 10:12

Whoop whoop @Grunty79, really pleased for you!

Well done @grunty79 dd! Dundee is a lovely place and ninewells seems to get get reviews on here and tsr as a teaching hospital. So pleased for you both!

KingscoteStaff · 18/02/2022 12:25

That’s fantastic news @Grunty79 - a wonderful med school in the middle of the most exciting scenery!

Grunty79 · 18/02/2022 14:10

Thank you so much ❤️ Dundee is her first choice and we are so happy for her . I hope everyone hears back soon with good news ☺️

Cirque · 18/02/2022 14:45

Huge congratulations @Grunty79. Dundee is fabulous Star

bitsbots · 18/02/2022 14:58

Congratulations to both of you! @BabbleBee @Grunty79

Haffdonga · 18/02/2022 15:18

Great to hear about offers - congratulations!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 18/02/2022 18:03

@Grunty79 - so pleased to hear of your DD's offer... and at her first choice uni too! Chapeau!

DD is getting a bit despondent as she has mocks next week and is lacking in motivation with no offer news. I feel so bad for her. She's off to the 18th birthday party of a mate with a Bristol offer tonight which isn't helping.

BabbleBee · 18/02/2022 18:04

DD had a detailed email from HYMS today - seems so real now!

Cirques · 19/02/2022 13:39

NC due to power outage! @MidLifeCrisis I hope your DD gets some good news soon. Just wanted to say we were exactly where you are this time last year. It was quite a nerve jangling time but it can turn around very quickly and it all worked out well in the end.

Monkey2001 · 19/02/2022 23:06

@MidLifeCrisis007 I remember thinking that part of a strategic application could be considering how quickly offers come through!

The majority of medics after waiting for decisions, including DS.

HoneyMobster · 20/02/2022 07:07

It's tough @MidLifeCrisis007 - with many of their non-medic friends beginning to get sorted the waiting must be torture. February is a tough month at the best of times.

DD is not impressed that her school are planning another set of 'mini mocks' in a couple of weeks.

Grunty79 · 20/02/2022 11:06

I wish the universities had a results day so that everyone gets to know the decision at the same time....it is really so difficult to wait without knowing when the news will come and at the same time they are expected to perform well for mocks. Hope everyone gets good news
very soon ❤️

notmedicmum · 20/02/2022 11:32

It is tricky. At least we will know interview results by the end of next month for all DD’s choices. But she had two interviews in the middle of her mocks last month, which was stressful!

KingscoteStaff · 20/02/2022 12:33

@notmedicmum That must have been really tricky.

DD's next mocks start tomorrow, and her half term of revision has identified a few gaps that went under the radar when her main focus was on interview prep.

In other news, DS came home for a weekend from university, stared open mouthed at his sister's diligence and focus, sighed deeply and went back to his habitual slack and random ways. Such a nice chap, but NO DRIVE!!!

notmedicmum · 20/02/2022 18:20

Smile @KingscoteStaff. Mocks especially stressful this year as they might influence A level grades if exams get cancelled (unlikely to happen now but felt more likely in early January when DD had her mocks)
