New thread for us, lots of lovely support whilst we wait. Some of our lovely DC now have interview dates whilst the rest of us hold our breath and try not to hassle our teens into checking their SPAM folders at least several times per day Grin.

@Startoftheyear2021

Well, let me be the first. My DD has been rejected. Nice email and we move on. Good luck to everyone on this thread (and to your DCs)!
Sorry to hear this too, it is mighty stressful for them and I hope she isnt too upset.

Sorry to hear this @staroftheyear2021 . You are not the first .. and far from the last to receive this 😞 good luck with the other applications

Valleyofthedollymix · 17/11/2021 14:56

@Startoftheyear2021 thanks for posting - on the scary elevenplusforum I was the first (and I think only) person to share bad news and I think it's gracious to do so. I will definitely now do the same if necessary (and it's not unlikely I think for DS and there will be benefits to the whole thing not dragging out).

mich101 · 17/11/2021 14:56

@Startoftheyear2021 but I think my first quote was better #star

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2021 15:00

Sorry to hear that start. I think sharing bad news can be important too and will share interview result whatever. I don't come from 11 plus land so no experience of that kind of thing on MN!!

Papierfroisse · 17/11/2021 15:21

Sorry it's bad news Start. I'm braced to hear the same, any minute now, and in any event most of our DCs will be joining yours post interview.

Papierfroisse · 17/11/2021 15:23
@Papierfroisse interesting ! Germany was my proposed plan B to ! Anywhere in particular ? Berlin looks good
I'm a little bit excited to hear that someone else is interested in Germany, if Oxbridge doesn't happen (still waiting to hear about interview / no interview). Is it ok if I PM you to swop tips?

PermanentTemporary · 17/11/2021 15:33

From my niece's experience I would say that C are pretty useless with IB candidates. Their loss was UCL's gain in the end and she loved it.

Valleyofthedollymix · 17/11/2021 15:34

It wasn't on MN - it was this absolutely terrifying forum that is a whole site devoted to the 11+ and the area of it I was on had a poster whose username referenced one of the schools in question, whose children were long grown up but used to post things like 'from the moment they were born I dreamed of them attending x school'. If anyone ever made mild criticism of the school, they'd get in a massive flounce.

Fortunately this board is NOTHING like that. Everybody seems really supportive and phlegmatic, which is absolutely the right way to be.

Gardenia22 · 17/11/2021 15:35

My ds is also considering Germany (as well as Switzerland), but the problem is that A level results come out too late to apply for the Winter Semester (15 July). So he'd need to take a gap year.
The Swiss Uni he's interested in is happy to accept applicants with A levels for the coming year, on the other hand.

SandyBayley · 17/11/2021 15:43

@Valleyofthedollymix - I know that site and I think I know the poster. Was it DAO 😮

Switzerland would be great too, though the cost of living is high there. I really hope these options remain open for British DC, who are losing so many opportunities due to Brexit.

Yes true - although the tuition fees are a lot lower than in the UK!

Gizmo98765 · 17/11/2021 15:52

Sorry to hear that start. They are all busy and up to their eyes with schoolwork.

Valleyofthedollymix · 17/11/2021 15:54

@SandyBayley ha yes you got it! And everyone else would be like 'my child got the highest possible score for QEB, do you think they'll be offered a place? I'm really worried it's not enough'.

Panicmode1 · 17/11/2021 16:01

Sorry to hear it's not good news Start - I'm sure we will be getting similar news shortly so will definitely post if so!

Good luck to all the ENGAA and all those waiting for other test results - I can't nag DS any more to check; he's already totally fed up with me and says he will tell me when he knows anything!

doubleshotcappuccino · 17/11/2021 16:33

Sorry to hear that @Startoftheyear2021 .. @Papierfroisse yes perhaps we should start a thread to discuss Europe options so we don't derail this one .. my knowledge at this stage is limited but we like Berlin and also it's a useful exercise at the moment to keep busy whilst waiting for news

Puffalicious · 17/11/2021 16:39

Sorry to hear your news Startoftheyear. It's only one university, DD will be sure to find her place. As was mentioned earlier I'm a strong believer in 'Whit's fur ye, ll no go by ye'.

Omg! Exactly the same here!! I can’t stop thinking about it… but DS just doesn’t seem bothered to even check e-mails! He said I’m annoying him keep asking!! 🤦‍♀️ Then I eep wondering if he gets a rejection will he even tell me!!?!!
Balls2it · 17/11/2021 16:43

Sorry to hear that @Startoftheyear2021. Like pp said, there will be more of us by the end with children not getting in than getting in. They’ve worked hard to get the opportunity to apply and I’m sure they’ll enjoy the Uni they end up in x

@mich101 he has promised me he will tell us either way but has forbidden me from asking "and you've checked your spam as well?" ad infinitum. Can't blame him really Grin

Geamhradh · 17/11/2021 17:13

Sorry to hear that @Startoftheyear2021Brew onwards and upwards.

My DD will also be applying abroad:
Here in Italy (so abroad for you guys) Pisa and Trento.
Possibly Maastricht and Leuven too.
I've my beady eye on SciencesPo for a master's. Someone we know is there doing his.

I made DH ask him. Was getting tired of his eyerolling.

Sorry to hear of your news @Startoftheyear2021.

ACloseMatch · 17/11/2021 17:25

I'm sorry to hear your DD's news @Startoftheyear2021. I'm a strong believer in the "what's for you won't go by you" phrase and know that if DD doesn't get an offer it would not have been the right place for her (regardless of what she might feel). DD has a high chance of the one offer she (Leeds) has being the only one she'll get, because all the other courses she has applied for are even harder to get into than Cambs. I know that if she ends up at Leeds though, she'll be happy and a good fit.
