September 2021 finds us packing, unpacking, meeting old friends and new, and all with our fingers firmly crossed for a positive year!

Palatinalps are on their way home, sadly switching off the ski season as they leave. Lucky so and sos had an amazing week.

We've just arrived in the (French) Alps and DS has been working hard on a history essay that needs to be submitted by midnight! Talk about leaving things to the last minute! We were so lucky to get here as the French border closes to tourists at midnight too!

Dd has exams after Xmas and an essay due in that first day back so not quite a big relaxing break . She came back with a bug (not covid) so is resting up atm though.

Yes. DS got an email from his college re no events over 25, on Fri.

I'm really hoping that by the time they go back to Durham Omicron numbers will have peaked and they'll have a relatively normal experience...am I too optimistic?

In other news @vargas, our DSs' college boathouse went up in flames last night. DS was hoping to do college rowing next term too. GRRRR.

@MidLifeCrisis007 I wouldn't worry they will borrow one of the other colleges boathouses and boats.

@KingscoteStaff - DS had the time of his life on Palatinalps! grin. Totally as expected (and partially planned for!) he returned with a Day 2 positive PCR......grrr. DS and I will be spending Christmas alone (even last year we ended up with ex DH!)!! grrrrrr

@321zyx sorry to hear your DS is positive, I think it’s a difficult path choosing between enjoying yourself as we all should and the balance of Covid , I hope he doesn’t feel ill and you are both able to enjoy Christmas.

@321zyx Great that your boy had a fab time ski-ing, not so good about the PCR…

DS and 2 housemates went back to Durham and isolated for 4 days before heading home to hug their grannies. He was working at the O2 today for ‘Disney on Ice’ - a waiter not a skater!

Hi hope everyone had a good festive holiday and Happy New Year! Can I just ask is everyone dcs going back to uni? I'm a bit uncertain at the min dd would like to go back ?

DS going back on Wednesday unless he is offered work here for next week - if he can make a bit more money he’ll stay and go back up on Saturday eve.

Dd back a week tomorrow .

@par05 I think everything is pretty much happening as normal so no reason not to go back? My DD goes back next Sat.

Have had emails yesterday and another 2 today saying it will be online learning for January?! No details … seems automated

Wondered if Durham is doing the same ?

DS said even if it's online he will be going back - most prob on 9th

@fruitygal.. which universities were these?

DS is going back next Sunday (regardless of any Covid lecture changes).

DS also says he is going back at the end of this week, online or not.

DD planning on going back next weekend , unsure what day . Hasn’t heard anything regarding only online although it wouldn’t surprise her . Still think she will go.

DS heading back up tomorrow night as rugby training starts Wed am. I think various shows are starting rehearsals on Thursday/Friday, as his more thespy housemates are also heading north tomorrow.
