@MidLifeCrisis007 possibly the same person who broke into our car on Friday and stole DS’s golf clubs (which I haven’t told him about yet as he’s already gutted about the test match being cancelled…).

Annoyingly Autoglass just said the earliest date they can come to our house to mend the passenger window is Friday 24th September. THE VERY DAY I'M MEANT TO BE DRIVING UP TO DURHAM! WTF!

Sorry about your DS's golf clubs @KingscoteStaff. There are some real scumbags around. Weirdly our car is alarmed but we didn't hear it and the dogs who normally go mad if a squirrel tip toes by the front of the house didn't hear anything either. I reckon they smashed the window just after Emma served her winning ace last night!!!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 12/09/2021 14:40

@MidLifeCrisis007 you will be one college up from me on Saturday as Ds's move in slot for South is during your Dc's move in. Sorry about the arseholes breaking into your car. And you too @KingscoteStaff.

All information for accommodation came to the original email @Longtimenewsee not the new Durham one. Ds had a welcome to South college email (23rd Aug) then another one titled arrival information (1st Sept) where you could book the moving in slot. Then the particulars of offer one (3rd Sept) where it lists the accommodation type and the address of the college so he is in South college. He now has a confirmed residence agreement email as you need to "sign" the accommodation agreement. I hope that helps.

Braveheart35 · 12/09/2021 16:12

Anybody heading to Stephenson heard about moving in day/time? Really need to know so younger siblings can be sorted!

Longtimenewsee · 12/09/2021 16:39

Thanks @OnTheBenchOfDoom Smile

Bluebellwoods1 · 12/09/2021 17:38

@Braveheart35 DD is waiting to hear from Stephenson re moving day / time , I am crossing my fingers it will be tomorrow we hear .

Braveheart35 · 12/09/2021 17:52

@Bluebellwoods1

Hope so! DS got his room allocation but the email said they would hear about moving in ‘in a few days’.

chopc · 12/09/2021 19:59

Seriously @KingscoteStaff ! That's the first I have heard of this (golf clubs being stolen)

Sorry about your car too @MidLifeCrisis007 - car crime is sadly rife

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/09/2021 20:05

Thanks @chopc. An identical car to ours (Skoda Yeti.... not the most fashionable of vehicles but I LOVE ours!) was targeted last night too, just up the road.

I'm used to all the Range Rovers being stolen in our neck of the woods... but it's plain weird that thieves were out targeting Yetis last night. I hear that all the infotainment systems are coded to their cars so you can't transfer them to another vehicle anyway. The thieves might not be as professional as they thought!

Ekofisk · 12/09/2021 20:42

That's the first I have heard of this (golf clubs being stolen)

My neighbour’s (very expensive) clubs were stolen from his car at about 5am one morning - they were only in the car because he had an early start.

What made it worse was that he heard the thieves arrive / leave in their own car and thought it was me taking DS to early morning swim training and so didn’t bother checking.

chopc · 12/09/2021 21:00

@Ekofisk 🤦🏽‍♀️

Told DH and DS not to leave their golf clubs in the car

Peasepuddingplease · 13/09/2021 10:45

Hello all! Have finally found some time to read the thread, have had so much on recently (the stress leading to college allocation, a bereavement, dealing with in laws illnesses and a new job that could not be postponed!) that have just come up for air!
So lovely to see all DCs heading off this year! Fingers crossed for them. Nice to see am not the only one worried about packing all the stuff in the car but thankfully
DD has a place/ room in the ‘ugly college with the lake’ (although we think it’s pretty! ) so no kitchen stuff required as catered.
@MidLifeCrisis007 and @KingscoteStaff we have the same moving in slot!
Am quite anxious as she is our only child and

The only thing she is worried about is finding some like minded people (she’s not a clubber or drinker) but am sure they will find their tribes!
Am not sure how to feel at the moment as I dont have a lot of family for support and we are very close. I suspect DH will miss her terribly.
We are staying over 24th and 25th as DH not seen Durham so hope to show him how nice it is and we’re also from London.
DD busy saying goodbyes to friends, some already at Exeter and others going this weekend.
Just to wish all DCs well!
Will wave up the A1!

chopc · 13/09/2021 11:52

Whose DC are still waiting to hear about moving In slots/ room allocations etc?

Beginning to panic now :(

libbytrois · 13/09/2021 12:03

@chopc still waiting here (trevs) - got an email on Friday saying there was a delay. What college are you waiting for?

chopc · 13/09/2021 12:06

@libbytrois Collingwood

Vargas · 13/09/2021 12:15

@Peasepuddingplease 'ugly college with the lake', is it Van Mildert? Grin

We saw that it was built in 1965 and ds said 'not a great time for architecture was it?' Grin

@chopc Hope you hear soon, it is SO frustrating how they give out details at completely different times.

Ekofisk · 13/09/2021 12:24

I managed to spend a year at Durham without ever setting foot in my Bailey college.

par05 · 13/09/2021 12:27

Still waiting for a moving in slot @chocpc but do know that it will be a Saturday, we are staying Friday night halfway and sat night just outside Durham as 6hrs drive, and @Peasepuddingpleasepeasesame with my dd not much of a drinker or clubber, so hoping will find like-minded tribe too 😀

Vargas · 13/09/2021 12:44

Just hoping my ds doesn't turn into a drinker and a clubber, I was an angel in my first year and then....well you probably don't want to know Grin

Peasepuddingplease · 13/09/2021 12:51

@Vargas yes thats the one!Grin
@par05 thank you

SpamhappyTootsie · 13/09/2021 12:56

Still no time slot news here, which is very annoying now. I mean, they must get that people have things to organise and not all students will be getting there under their own steam? Which is where DH and I differ in opinion, as I was ferried to and fro by my parents while he had a 6 hour train journey Grin. (Not Durham).
DS isn’t a drinker or a clubber either. I think there will be plenty of them there. I remember the non-drinkers/partiers from my Halls and never found it odd. We all mixed together well, although noise was an issue in the 2nd year.

Longtimenewsee · 13/09/2021 13:14

Dc has now found out where she will be (castle)
Good luck to those still waiting.
Haven’t seen email as at work and don’t know about moving in day yet.

Dazeddaisy · 13/09/2021 13:53

Ok enough now. Maybe this is all to put kids off applying next year! Some ppl from a college heard last night. Some heard have been put in accommodation blocks way out of college. It leaves such a bad feeling. We all sympathise with the inflated grades situation. But the lack of reassurance, the fact no forms were acknowledged, the reallocation mess and in one college apparently there are quadruple rooms and the fact of the cost of rooms being the same, whether horrible, tiny, old, modern.But principally the lack of information. Yet another day half gone with no kind email explaining at least which sodding day to move in. Looks like we will be sleeping in a lorry park at this rate. Don't even know if DC will now be catered.

321zyx · 13/09/2021 13:57

@chopc still waiting for room allocation here!

chopc · 13/09/2021 15:13

Echo the sentiments @Dazeddaisy

Really disappointing

For me when DS got rejected from Cambridge, I made myself get excited about Durham due to the collegiate system, and the sporting and music opportunities within easy reach. For them to treat the students like this is appalling
