Just watched a Youtube video of Van Mildert. It's not the beautiful brick Hogwarts that I had in mind but seems very nice, with nice big dining hall and a duck pond and most importantly for ds, it's catered and has a decent size gym!

Now I just need to get him to fill in all the forms ASAP. Hmm

Hope the rest of the Durham crowd get answers soon.

Bluebellwoods1 · 01/09/2021 17:13

She has heard , Stephenson not anything she had considered but she knows how to cook and it gives her the room type she wants , she isn’t going to defer , is very relieved and happy she will have an extra £500 pounds as they changed her college .

Pleased everyone else has heard and a huge thank you to you all .

MidLifeCrisis007 · 01/09/2021 17:20

Hi @Vargas. Mildert wasn't DS's first choice either but it's a great college with a good social and sporting scene. He's very happy about it now.

I might see you up there at some point!

Peaseblossum22 · 01/09/2021 17:24

So glad everyone’s getting sorted out , what a grim couple of weeks. Have worked myself into a area now worrying that ds won’t get a room in college , had a nightmare that he was allocated a B&B in Whitby Confused so hope that’s not a real possibility !

chopc · 01/09/2021 17:26

@OnTheBenchOfDoom how long after college allocation could be book in moving in date? DS working away so can't keep nagging him

LeiatheSchnauzer · 01/09/2021 17:44

Oh no @Peaseblossum22, I thought we were done with the unknown, is there still a chance they might not be 'in' college? For some reason I assumed that would have been flagged up when the college was confirmed.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/09/2021 17:48

@chopc D's had his college confirmed 23rd August so a while back now. It might depend on the college too.

Can you get your son to set up an automatic forward from any Durham emails? That way you won't miss anything.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/09/2021 17:49

Forgot to say 2 of Ds's friends applied for Castle one got it the other got Van Mildert. Just been told in last couple of hours.

Greyhair59 · 01/09/2021 18:30

DS still waiting to hear. Has chased again. Has been able to select modules so assume all will be ok !!!!!!!

Greyhair59 · 01/09/2021 18:33

Still waiting. DS has chased. Has been able to choose modules so hope all is ok!!!!

chopc · 01/09/2021 18:55

@OnTheBenchOfDoom wow I never thought of that! Independence and all .. but maybe I should suggest that

SpringSparrow · 01/09/2021 18:59

@Greyhair59 sorry to hear your ds is still waiting. Which college was he originally allocated to?
Good to hear that everyone is getting sorted.
With the Bailey Colleges last year, you were given a very strict time slot for moving in. Not just because of Covid but because of restricted access to the Bailey and limited parking. And having to go to the County Hall first to get a parking permit to drive onto the Bailey.

Longtimenewsee · 01/09/2021 19:42

Good news @Bluebellwoods1 and @PhoebeFriends
Fingers crossed for those still waiting

Bluebellwoods1 · 01/09/2021 20:03

Apologies , I thought everyone had heard , Greyhair59 hope your DS hears soon.

chopc · 01/09/2021 20:08

Does Durham have reading weeks?

At what point do you get to book your move in slot?

321zyx · 01/09/2021 20:46

A reallocation here - from a period property to a 1960's ish version. 'C'est la vie' - I'm sure they'll all have a great time whichever college they are in Grin. I hope all those still waiting hear soon, it's not been a great experience so far!

chopc · 01/09/2021 20:48

Oh is your DC Ok with her reallocation @321zyx ?

Longtimenewsee · 01/09/2021 21:13

Nope-It hasn’t has it @321zyx
@Greyhair59 keeping everything crossed for you.

321zyx · 01/09/2021 21:46

Good luck to those still waiting to hear!
@chopc and @Longtimenewsee - I can tell he's pissed off but is also stoic and I know will make the most of it - to be honest I'm sure they'll all have a great time regardless of collegeGrin. He's currently on holiday with friends, albeit in the UK, so difficult to accurately gauge reaction!

chopc · 01/09/2021 21:51

Tbf I think it would have been much better for a Durham to not do any allocations prior to results day.

Anyway what's happened has happened

Yeah I am sure all DC will be happy irrespective of their college

Vargas · 01/09/2021 23:52

@Bluebellwoods1 My friend's dd started at Stephenson last year, after a reallocation. You won't be surprised to hear - she's had a very nice time.

Bluebellwoods1 · 02/09/2021 10:34

Vargas , thank you , when she had researched her colleges Stephenson wasn’t one she listed , she has adjusted far better than me !!
Hopefully all will be well and they will all have a Fab time .

Longtimenewsee · 02/09/2021 18:26

What do typical Durham rooms have in them? Bedside table ? Lamp? Bin? Hooks on doors etc?

Longtimenewsee · 02/09/2021 18:27

@Greyhair59..any news?

KingscoteStaff · 02/09/2021 18:32

DS had bed, bedside table with 2 small drawers, desk with 2 drawers, 2 book shelves above desk, chair, wardrobe and small 3 drawer unit (not much bigger than bedside table).

One lamp. One plug point. Bin. No hooks. Kettle was provided when they went into isolation - I don't think they had one in the room to start with.

He ended up putting most of his clothes on hangers in the wardrobe - bring LOTS of hangers! Only socks, pants and t shirts went into drawers.
