Ok so question for all of you with children going to Durham this year. Did they all make the grades that the offer stated? Were the offers the same as those listed on the website? DD is very keen for in a years time, but I'm concerned she might not get what they are asking. Is it worth applying?

DD missed her offer by one grade (2 marks!) two years ago and was accepted.

BUT: She woke on the morning and found she had been accepted about 10pm the previous day. There was someone on here who Durham didn't decide for ages-definitely over 24 hours and then rejected him. So potentially you can be hanging on waiting, possibly loosing accommodation at your insurance etc.

I'd say it is worth applying if she may get the results though.

@Longtimenewsee what subject is dd taking? I deduce from TSR that only some subjects are covered by the latest offer.

@Longtimenewsee. I'm SO sorry to hear your DD is still in limbo. It's totally unacceptable to keep some students waiting like this.... incredibly stressful for them and their parents.

I sincerely hope she gets her college allocation confirmed soon.... and that it's at her preferred college.

I do rather take issue with students being incentivised to the tune of £5k to defer. Really Durham should be throwing cash at 3rd and 4th years to get them to live out - deferring people is just creating fewer spaces for next year. It's solving one problem but creating another....

I think there are very few third and fourth years who live in anyway, I think there is a presumption that they live out . Tbh although I do agree in principal

Apparently at Van Mildert there are 410 first year rooms and 524 students living in college. There are no doubles.... so that suggests quite a lot of non first years!

Gosh that’s a lot . I’m quite surprised . Some are probably postgrads but then I can’t see why they couldn’t live out

What's the difference between A, A and A*?

@NCTDN what is it you are asking? Just use the word star so A star as MN bolds any words or letters proceeded by and followed by an asterisk.

For all others waiting on Durham accommodation this really is poor behaviour by Durham. Frustrating as hell to be still waiting at this point.

How are my fellow people in the Durham waiting room doing? I very much hope some of you have heard.. coz it’s blimmin horrible!
Dd has just heard she has first choice college. The relief ( tinged with a bit of grrrrr) is huge for Dd. I’m still a bit too grrrr atm tbh

Nothing here yet, and I daren't ask ds again as he'll strangle me. I'm trying to WFH but my concentration is NOT good.

Finally! Van Mildert - have just had a quick look. DS wanted Bailey and it's Hill, he wanted old and it's new. But no shared rooms and he's just relieved to know, and a mate of his has been allocated to same college which he seems pleased about.

But we're both relieved to finally know, and he's deffo not going to defer.

@OnTheBenchOfDoom I was confused by posts mentioning A and A star when some were in bold, but never realised it was because mn does the bold thing automatically when using stars.

I really really really hope you all get the news soon, and it's positive news! Cross fingers and toes..

Thanks @Longtimenewsee - DC has had the email and got original 1st choice - all feeling relieved but like you a bit grrrr for all the stress waiting caused for us and all the other students who had to wait/ still waiting.

Congratulations to @Vargas and @Longtimenewsee. Finally some good news. Fingers crossed for everyone else in the meantime.

Is this where I tell you Ds has just booked his moving in slot? No information on which block etc just offered Saturday or Sunday and a bunch of time slots I think 40 minutes apart. We have booked a morning one as I know some folk will be taking a long time to get there travel wise.

Ds was in Durham yesterday. Was taken and toured round by a 2nd yr student who is friend of friends, also with some of Ds's friends who are going to Durham too. They applied for Castle, not heard anything yet. He walked round Van Mildert Vargas said all the colleges seemed lovely.
