I've been so busy at work, I haven't had a chance to stop to chat.

Absolutely brilliant news @MidLifeCrisis007. I recall. DS going through a similar scenario a couple of years ago when he was rejected by his firm and relying on Durham as his insurance. At one point there was a suggestion they had no record of him in their system which was super stressful. It was a rollercoaster of a week but it all worked out well in the end, despite getting a college he want keen on.

Still waiting for good new for chopc,

LeiatheSchnauzer · 26/08/2021 20:40

Phew, what a relief @MidLifeCrisis007!
Keeping fingers crossed for those still waiting for their allocation.

Vargas · 26/08/2021 20:45

Still waiting for ds. What a ridiculous system. Why couldn't they advise everyone at the same time?

SpringSparrow · 27/08/2021 00:20

It’s very frustrating for those still waiting for college allocation. I came across this freedom of information request which showed the popularity of each of the colleges from 2012 - 2017. I know the choices were made differently this year but it gives an idea of which are the popular colleges, which might be struggle more to fulfil their offers.

DS got his first choice College! Yay!

And Yay! to @MidLifeCrisis007

@Vargas hope your DS hears soon!

Greyhair59 · 27/08/2021 08:47

Anyone waiting to hear from Butler????

sub453 · 27/08/2021 09:03
@fevafeva DS says that Aidans has the best fashion show! Not sure whether that refers to the models, the clothes, the sound system or the refreshments! Also apparently Aidans is ridiculously over represented on the hockey and netball teams due to the effect of their hill on leg muscles!!
Ah the joy of Aidan's steps... Perhaps it was our shapely leg muscles that resulted in my group of friends all marrying a fellow Aidan's student (including me). I'm thinking I may steer my son to a different college as it may start to become a bit weird if he also went there.

Good luck to all the Durham students, I'm sure all the stresses will fade away once they get there. It's a beautiful place to study. Also make sure they pack a thick coat!

Vargas · 27/08/2021 10:44

So those who have been (re) allocated a college, are your dc's now choosing modules and accommodation?

Just wonder if ds is missing out on choices as well as waiting longer than others... Confused

Longtimenewsee · 27/08/2021 10:49

Yes @Vargas - I was thinking that too. Confused

chopc · 27/08/2021 10:55

It would be grossly unfair if that was the case @Longtimenewsee @Vargas . In fact outrageous. It's one thing having to wait for college confirmation but another if your choice of modules are being affected by Durham's mess up as well

In fact what has the academic study got to do with the college? This is not Oxbridge! The two are separate at Durham ..... so doesn't make sense

Peaseblossum22 · 27/08/2021 12:17

Do you need the college allocation to sctuslly enrol . Ds has enrolled but the module registering seems separate , but I might be wrong on that .

Longtimenewsee · 27/08/2021 13:00

Yes @Peaseblossum22. You don’t get the magic email with the things for enrolment until you have been allocated a college

Peaseblossum22 · 27/08/2021 13:05

Oh sorry , I thought you might be able to fro it from the link on the University website .

KingscoteStaff · 27/08/2021 13:25

NB if anyone's DC are doing Politics...

When you are looking at signing up for elective modules, do have a look at the Year 2 modules, as a (very) few will only be available if the student has done a specific module in Year 1.

DS (a world class airhead) failed to do this last year and it was only by complete fluke that he chose something that has enabled him to study his top favourite module for Year 2.

Longtimenewsee · 27/08/2021 13:31

Thanks @KingscoteStaff . Dd not doing politics but I think the same applies to her course .. good reminder

chopc · 27/08/2021 13:33

Thanks @KingscoteStaff . I wouldn't have thought of this

PhoebeFriends · 27/08/2021 13:56

DC is stopping me from intervening but I am furious at the shambolic state of affairs particularly the lack of communication.
It is one thing that they have messed up on accommodation but if DC misses out on the academic side due to late module choices I will be hard pushed to not take action.

Vargas · 27/08/2021 14:58

I completely agree @PhoebeFriends !

On the more positive side, I had a chat with ds this morning and he said he is very happy with the £500 reward for getting a different college. So he's now saying he's happy with any college, (although not madly keen on self catering!). But still no email, sigh.

Bluebellwoods1 · 27/08/2021 15:46

My DD is still waiting to hear , I am concerned that other’s are able to pick modules and she is still waiting to be allocated , totally unfair and unnecessary stress .

Braveheart35 · 27/08/2021 17:43

It does all seem a bit chaotic. DS (History) filled in an online enrolment, but the whole module thing was confusing. It does say, after much searching, wait for an email from your dept (from which he’s heard nothing), so I’m not sure it’s a case of everybody rushing to choose modules. Then again, it might be different for other courses or he might have got the whole thing wrong!

chopc · 27/08/2021 17:50

DS is also doing History but as he only got allocated his college yesterday will await further emails to check modules

par05 · 27/08/2021 18:28

Sorry I know I asked earlier, but is anyone waiting to hear from St cuthberts or have heard? Also anyone else's child doing English lit and been put forward for the wrong course?

SpringSparrow · 27/08/2021 18:49

@par05 Hi, how do you mean put forward for the wrong course? Are you referring to modules? My dd is a current Eng Lit student.

Bluebellwoods1 · 27/08/2021 18:51

DD is waiting to hear from St Cuthberts

Peaseblossum22 · 27/08/2021 19:03

My ds is starting Eng Lit in October. Do you mean a completely random other subject like physics or geography or English with an extra tear or English with something
