Hopefully this is in the right place?

It’s a no here too. DS seems OK.

SATSmadness · 25/01/2021 11:29

Nothing here yet, although DD's really really not expecting to receive an offer but just wants the waiting over.

quest1on · 25/01/2021 11:38

Hi - DS pooled but no offer. Oh well, that’s life. Shit happens.

The worst was the waiting to be honest. He’ll be ok and this is just one of life’s twists and turns. He had 10x9s at GCSE, 3xA* at A-level, full marks for EPQ and a published essay. Enjoyed his interviews too. No idea what more he could have done so no regrets.

Anyway, at least now we know and can move on. I hope he heard from LSE soon. He’s gone off Durham. Otherwise he has UCL and Bath offers, both with a year abroad option. So all good in the long-run.

Good luck everyone but if there one thing we’ve just learned it’s that the worst is the not knowing.

par05 · 25/01/2021 11:39

It's a no I am more dissapointed than her I think, but she is eligible for the summer pool ? If she wants to that is. At the moment dd is saying no, had a offer from durham AAB so think that is where she is going.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2021 11:40

Sorry to hear @quest1on and @Tenpastseven

Beetlesand · 25/01/2021 11:43

Yes @bendmeoverbackwards.. I think a good cry is sensible at this point Smile
She’s really lucky to have 4 other offers .. including Durham ( lower if she firms them up) Edinburgh and York . She can’t think about them atm which is understandable and her previous worry about Durham is that it will be too quiet and won’t feel like a proper city with enough to do.

Beetlesand · 25/01/2021 11:46

Sorry to hear @par05, @Tenpastseven.. and @quest1on. .

Vargas · 25/01/2021 11:47

DS is a no for Geography. Not terribly surprised. Hoping he'll see the positive side of going to a Uni where he can do a work placement year, which wasn't an option at Cambridge. He's got 3 good offers and still waiting for Durham.

Big congratulations to all those with offers. I hope you all get a chance to celebrate tonight. I will raise a glass to you all!

Commiserations to those redirected, it's been a relentless process and I'm relieved it's over!

quest1on · 25/01/2021 11:53

Vargas - DS was also Geog and I totally agree that the main feeling now is just relief and moving on.

Thethingswedoforlove · 25/01/2021 11:57

Anyone received modern languages news yet?

Crikeyblimey · 25/01/2021 12:03

@Thethingswedoforlove - yes DS’s redirection was for MML. 😢

Thethingswedoforlove · 25/01/2021 12:08

I’m sorry @Crikeyblimey. Thanks for letting me know

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2021 12:12

Very similar story here @Vargas Dd is Ancient and Modern History. After the Oxford redirection her first choice is now Durham but no offer yet. I really hope she gets one, I think to get only 3 offers out of her 5 choices will upset her no end.

Tenpastseven · 25/01/2021 12:12

Yes my DS received a no for MML too @Thethingswedoforlove.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2021 12:12

Dd is also excited about the prospect of studying abroad which she can do anywhere other than Oxford.

Beetlesand · 25/01/2021 12:14

Yes bend the year abroad is helping

Jalfrezi · 25/01/2021 12:16

Seems that there are an awful lot more redirections this year??? Really feel for all those disappointed but hope they can bounce back quickly.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2021 12:17

@Beetlesand I think Durham is not too far away from Newcastle which is good for nights out.

DeRigueurMortis · 25/01/2021 12:18

Well despite having convinced myself that DS would not get an offer.....I've been proven wrong (maths).

DS seems in shock tbh. Happy, but (like me) had been so resigned to a "no thanks" that he's struggling to process it. I think he needs a few hours to get used to the idea.

Commiserations to everyone who's child didn't get an offer. I hope they are taking the news as well as possible.

They are all exceptionally bright children who will absolutely flourish moving forward (and as a former re-direct myself I speak from experience) Thanks

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/01/2021 12:21

Just popping in to see how C's are getting on. Seem to be an awful lot of redirections.

Congrats to all those who have their offers, and commiserations and understanding to those who haven't.

So used to seeing all your names, and hopefully we will continue to all keep in touch on the other threads as time goes on.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/01/2021 12:26

Fantastic news @DeRigueurMortis well done to your ds!

I agree @BigWoollyJumpers this thread has been a fantastic source of mutual support.

ClarasZoo · 25/01/2021 12:28

Sorry to hear of the redirections and congratulations to those with offers. My DS has an offer, although not sure what grades yet, for Natsci at his applied-for college...

ImsorryWilson · 25/01/2021 12:29

My son has an offer for Natsci at Churchill :). Woo hoo!

Does this mean I can finally get over being pooled 38 years ago?
Nope - not a chance :)

My husband was turned down by all the Ivy League Colleges. He remembers all the envelopes arriving on the same day - all thin.

Years later he became a professor and had to go to Cambridge to examine someone's PhD - he phoned me up and asked if it would be very wrong to do a wee in the quad.

I hope this makes someone laugh today x

WarmAndco3y · 25/01/2021 12:29

Congratulations to all those who have received offers. Really good to read the good news
Commiserations to those who have been redirected. I hope your DC will be able find peace and move on to the next step after they’ve had time to take it in
I think everyone deserves to celebrate coming this far and I know it sounds like a cliche, but this year has been tougher than others considering the pandemic curveballs. When all the chaos of last year was going on, I was sighing with relief that we were not in that year group, little did I know....

We are still waiting for news. A few of DS’s friends already received redirections so he is really getting anxious.

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/01/2021 12:30

@bendmeoverbackwards

Fantastic news *@DeRigueurMortis* well done to your ds!

I agree @BigWoollyJumpers this thread has been a fantastic source of mutual support.

It has been really good. Lots of lovely people here.

That Exeter thread you started went a bit off piste! I was really interested too, but didn't quite get the information I was looking for. Hey ho.
