Hopefully this is in the right place?
@BigWoollyJumpers - is your DD thinking of Bristol?
Exeter or Warwick. Warwick was an early contender, as she was interested in the term in Venice, but now she has looked more closely at both, her heart seems set on Exeter. Same offers, three A's, but I think Exeter has a reduction for first choice. Grades aren't a problem though, as her latest report was three A*'s, so it is just a case of where she will feel most happy. She knows many, many friends, and acquaintances at Exeter, it is, after all, Surrey by the Sea, and her new boyfriend is going there, so.........

IrmaFayLear · 12/01/2021 10:56

Well done to the latest offer-gainers!!!!

To the unsuccessful ones... take some time out. No need to make decisions just yet. In the next few weeks get some feedback and then decide whether it’s time to move on.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/01/2021 10:58

Another history no here. And he was a re-applicant. It hurts 10 x more being rejected twice. Thankfully the headmaster at the school he works at has given him the day off.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 10:59

Oh so sorry to hear that @MidLifeCrisis007 your poor ds. What are his options now?

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 11:00

@BigWoollyJumpers what subject?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 12/01/2021 11:01

Still waiting on Durham @bendmeoverbackwards. Annoyingly, he could have deferred his place from last year and got a couple of thousand quid for doing it.... Grrr!

He now has 3 empty spaces on his UCAS form to fill.

Oh my goodness - what a roller coaster you have been on...... your DS will turn out to be a very resilient soul.
bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 11:04

Maybe our dds will meet at Exeter @BigWoollyJumpers!

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 11:05

Before the deadline on Friday?

LaundryFairy · 12/01/2021 11:05

@BigWoollyJumpers Exeter does seem like the natural choice then. We all know that our DC will thrive wherever they end up - it's such an emotional time helping them get through this transition.

So sorry to hear about your DS @MidLifeCrisis007 - glad he has the day off.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 11:06

Does anyone know - I presume you can't make any amendments to your UCAS choices now can you?

puffinkoala · 12/01/2021 11:10

It depends when you applied - if it was less than 14 days ago you can.

And the new deadline is 29th Jan so if you have spaces to fill you've got some time to do it.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/01/2021 11:12

Wow I didn't know this! I thought you had to put all choices down at once. Now I'm wondering if dd should have held off applying to other unis until she had heard from Oxford....

SATSmadness · 12/01/2021 11:13

Hasn't the UCAS deadline been extended to 29th Jan @bendmeoverbackwards

sadpapercourtesan · 12/01/2021 11:16

Another delurker here! DS1 has an offer from Univ for History and Politics. I was braced for a no, so it's a lovely surprise. This time last year he was severely mentally ill, self-harming and really struggling to cope, especially having ASD as well, so I'm incredibly proud of him.

Pumpkintopf · 12/01/2021 11:23

Amazing to see the offers coming in, many congratulations to all the dc - and to all of the wonderful dc redirected I hope they will be proud of getting to this point. Easy to say I know - still got another couple of weeks of waiting for Cambridge here and may well not be that sanguine when ds's time comes.

IrmaFayLear · 12/01/2021 11:25

Well done to your ds, @sadpapercourtesan , and for a very competitive course too!

I know it shouldn’t matter, but a place is a real relief when our dc is a bit... delicate. My ds took it on the chin, but I was worried about dd who is definitely not one of life’s shruggers.

carrythecan · 12/01/2021 11:25

Well done @sadpapercourtesan . You must be so pleased for him. I had been preparing for helping DS deal with the disappointment too. He is borderline ASD and had set his heart on Oxford. So proud of him & pleased he got in.

ChimneyPot · 12/01/2021 11:28

Congratulations to all successful DC and commiserations to those being redirected.

DD got rejected for PPE.
She is upset about being rejected but not about not going to Oxford if that makes sense.

SATSmadness · 12/01/2021 11:29

DD held off putting her 5th choice down (applying for medicine and 5th choice has to be something other than medicine) until after her dire interview with Cambridge which effectively shook her into thinking "what if I don't even get any offers for medicine ?". She spent a week researching other options and discussing with teachers at school before putting in a 5th option application.

Huge congratulations to those dc with offers and virtual hugs to those having come so far but now redirected. I've been lurking rather than posting on the thread for a while now as DD said she can't see how Cambridge could make her an offer based on her interview performance, even with her GCSE record and predicted A* x 3.

She doesn't seem to be obsessing about it though but I guess the run up to the 25th will still be tense regardless, especially as she has school friends also waiting to hear about their own and her outcomes.

Can I just ask to anyone who has posted that their DC "Is in" or "it's a yes". Does that mean they have an unconditional offer or just that they have an offer and definitely expect to receive the necessary grades required by the offer.

Chocomel · 12/01/2021 11:33

@SATSmadness my DS got an offer of 2 As at Advanced Higher. He got that last year, so he'll send in his certificate to make sure he's covered the requirements. (I was expecting any offers to be based on results for the upcoming exam cycle.).

I am so sorry to hear about the redirections, your babies have done so well to get to this stage & it not a reflection of academic ability. Everyone who is invited to interview are at the top of their game & the difference between getting an offer and not is cigarette paper width of difference.

Congratulations to all the offer holders.

Chocomel · 12/01/2021 11:36

It's not an unconditional offer - he still needs to prove his results.

Absolutely second this sentiment. Everyone interviewed has done so well, especially given the difficult circumstances. The same interview in a different day could have had different results. Not that that helps disappointed students today.
