Hopefully this is in the right place?

If oxbridge were looking for cocky self-confident students then my dcs would never have got in: you couldn’t find a more awkward pair... If you look at the people on university challenge there are some real, er, oddballs - some of whom ds knows quite well from his subject/college on the past couple of series.

Good luck everyone for tomorrow!

Millylovespuddles · 24/01/2021 19:12

I didn't mean that you have to be cocky to nail an interview, more that she is more quiet than forward.

But, I would like to get peoples' opinions on the luck of the draw regarding college numbers.

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 19:16

I'm afraid I'd say that for those subjects which have randomly allocated second college interviews at Oxford, such as Biology, Medicine etc, then the system seems to be fairly robust in ironing out problems thrown up by oversubscription to any one college. Cambridge I'm less confident about.

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 19:21

Your DD does sound like one of those who our school would have been very surprised about - sometimes it does seem to feel like just very bad luck. It's worth asking for feedback but don't be surprised if it sounds generic since it often seems to and especially where all the grades and aptitude tests are good.

hobbema · 24/01/2021 19:59

Good luck to everyone waiting for Cambridge news tomorrow! Can hardly believe it’s been a year since we were on tenterhooks, and what a year..

Hoghgyni · 24/01/2021 20:09

Hope all the Cambridge bunch get the news they are hoping for & deserve tomorrow. I'm sorry that some of you have had such a tough couple of weeks. I was in a similar position last term and it's very hard.

321zyx · 24/01/2021 20:13

Good luck to all your DC for C results tomorrow.

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 20:13

It is incredibly hard. My own mother dies twenty years ago but it's her birthday today and it's funny one, still feeling sad. Just occasionally though, on these special days - the first bit is undeniably hard.

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 20:35

Off topic - ignore! Hope Jano69 and BWJ are doing ok that's all.

Jan069 · 24/01/2021 20:35

I'm sorry you lost your mum so young goodbye. Birthdays and special events are hard.

Good luck to the Cambridge crew, I shall be tuning in tomorrow to hear your news.

Milly, I feel your pain. This Oxbridge experience with DD has been so different to the one with DS a couple of years ago. She is very accepting of her Oxford redirection and so happy about her place at Durham. She feels positive - so do we. It's such a relief. DS on the other hand so wanted C a couple of years ago, like your DD he really should've got there but sometimes things just don't go to plan. It took me literally a year to stop crying randomly about it and stop feeling it was so grossly unfair. But as I've said before, time really is a healer.

chopc · 24/01/2021 20:39

@goodbyestranger xxx

chopc · 24/01/2021 20:40

Sorry perhaps it's an inappropriate response. I lost my own beloved dad 18 years ago and can identify with what you are feeling 💐

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 20:53

Cheers both - appreciated x

goodbyestranger · 24/01/2021 20:59

Yes I'll be tuning in too, hoping for lots of good news.

ClarasZoo · 24/01/2021 21:15

My son has just realised that he has not applied to 5 uni choices but 4 with one uni duplicated and slightly different courses. That uni has made two offers so I think he’s stuck without his fifth choice now- arghhhh

Pumpkintopf · 24/01/2021 21:18

Hi all, just checking in. I'm now feeling sick with nerves for ds tomorrow. He won't talk much about it but has said he's nervous. It just feels all so uncertain especially with some of your lovely dcs being redirected. He really couldn't have worked any harder. And I know at the end of the day he'll end up where he needs to be, whichever route, it's just such a tough process!! Sorry to brain dump.

DahliaMacNamara · 24/01/2021 21:21

Loss is especially hard right now as we can't have the normal rituals and human comforting that we need. Huge sympathy for those whose grief is still raw, and fellow feeling with others still missing loved ones.

I hope tomorrow brings the news everyone is hoping for. Sometimes I think I'm spending too much time on these threads. I woke up yesterday morning convinced it was Monday 25th, so relieved for you all that the long wait was at an end. Good luck Cambridgeers.

chitchattery · 24/01/2021 21:29

Just de-lurking to say good luck tomorrow. DS was rejected by C and I felt he was perfect for them but clearly not. He is currently doing his PhD elsewhere and has been totally enthused by his under and post grad studies. No regrets. DD is in the 4th year at C ( not physically at the moment!) Didn’t think she would get in- tears after interviews etc. So we have experience of both outcomes. It does all work out. Good luck tomorrow. Hope all your DC get C or something just as good. I am sure they will.

chopc · 24/01/2021 21:43

This thread just reminded me of when more and more people come to the dance floor when it comes near midnight on New Year's Eve!

It's good to have company - truly. Thank you all for being there in this journey

chopc · 24/01/2021 21:45

And all the very best wishes to everyone!

whiteroseredrose · 24/01/2021 21:47

Good luck to Cambridge applicants for tomorrow. DD's BFF has applied for maths and we're all keeping fingers crossed.

pepperaunt · 24/01/2021 22:05

Good luck to all the DC (mine included!) tomorrow. So glad we’ll have an answer one way or another. X

Beetlesand · 24/01/2021 22:07

I hope tomorrows news comes as early as possible for all of our dc. I just had a little chat with Dd about it , she agreed that at least there will be a teeny bit of much needed certainty given tomorrow ..
I wish the dc of all of you lovely people, the best of luck.. come what may, I will be rooting for you all .

Crikeyblimey · 24/01/2021 23:01

Wishing all is C hopefully the news we want for tomorrow.

I love the thought of us all gathering on the dance floor waiting for new year! Nice thought.

Whatever our news tomorrow, I wish all our young people the absolute best for wherever they may go.

Sleep well x

Crikeyblimey · 24/01/2021 23:02

Ach - really should preview before posting.

Wishing all us C hopefuls...
