Hopefully this is in the right place?

OP posts:

So I expect most history non-contextual UK year 13s are still waiting. Jano69's heard last week I think though (positively!), suggesting the department may be gearing up.

Apologies if I have name checked the wrong DC

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/01/2021 23:23

So not all is lost yet then? UCAS deadline is now 29th jan I think?

Beetlesand · 14/01/2021 23:23

@BigWoollyJumpers . I’m so sorry for your loss. How awful for you Flowers

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/01/2021 23:25

It’s my birthday tomorrow. The best gift would be for dd to get an offer.

chopc · 14/01/2021 23:27

Wishing you a happy birthday and sending good thoughts to the Unis to give your DD her offer tomorrow 🤞🏽

chopc · 14/01/2021 23:29

Sorry just realised she is waiting only for Durham. Hope she gets an offer from Durham tomorrow 🤞🏽

LoonvanBoon · 14/01/2021 23:30

bendmeoverbackwards we're waiting for Durham too. It's probably DT1's first choice now he hasn't got an Oxford place (for English); and DT2, who got an Oxford History offer but isn't sure he wants it, is also waiting to hear.

LoonvanBoon · 14/01/2021 23:30

bigwoollyjumpers I'm so sorry for your loss.

FlyingSquid · 14/01/2021 23:32

Universities are supposed to guarantee giving equal consideration to all applications received by the deadline, so Durham shouldn’t already be full.

I’ll admit I don’t know how that works, given that many so offers come out well before the UCAS deadline.

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/01/2021 23:44

Yes it’s a strange old system isn’t it @FlyingSquid They say late applicants will have a fair chance but how can that be true if offers go out from October?

bendmeoverbackwards · 14/01/2021 23:46

Good luck to both your boys @LoonvanBoon I’ve been following your posts. Must be so stressful for you to support them both.

Jano69 · 15/01/2021 00:16

Happy bday bend x

DeRigueurMortis · 15/01/2021 01:07

Happy Birthday Bend 🥳

Millylovespuddles · 15/01/2021 06:56

@NiamCinnOir
Are you in NI by any chance @Millylovespuddles? It's very interesting that NI has one of the lowest rates of students going to Oxford but the highest rate of students achieving AAA or better at A level in the UK

It was always going to be risky, this year of calamities just made it worse!

LaundryFairy · 15/01/2021 08:05

@BigWoollyJumpers I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers. God we could all do with being able to hug each other - I hope you have friends irl to go for long restorative walks with. Glad to hear your DD is mapping out her path to Exeter.

mikeandike · 15/01/2021 08:24

@BigWoollyJumpers I’m so sorry Flowers.

mikeandike · 15/01/2021 08:24

Happy birthday @bendmeoverbackwards!!

LaundryFairy · 15/01/2021 08:30

Happy Birthday @bendmeoverbackwards Cake ! Hope your DD gets news from Durham soon.

Jano69 · 15/01/2021 08:55

Sorry to tell more sad news but my dad passed away yesterday evening of a lung infection (not covid). He was 89 and had a good life - he wanted to go as his quality of life just wasn't there following a long period of poor health.

Somewhat poignant that we didn't see him for his last Christmas.... but I did get to hold his hand before going off in the ambulance last Tuesday.

DD is very upset. It's the first death in the family of someone she knew well and seeing me in a state, along with Oxford rejection, awful online learning and feeling completely isolated from her friends has made this past few days pretty grim. She's now worried that this will affect her mock A Levels so I will make sure the school is advised.

@BigWoollyJumpers sending you Thanks

Jano69 · 15/01/2021 08:58

Sorry to derail the thread - wishing bend another happy birthday and really hoping her DD gets a Durham offer soon.

FlyingSquid · 15/01/2021 08:59

Oh goodness, Jan and Woolly, my heart goes out to you. Please take time to think about yourselves as well as your children.

BilberryBaggins · 15/01/2021 09:08

I’m really sorry BigWoollyJumpers and Jano69.

Revengeofthepangolins · 15/01/2021 09:10

Sorry it is being a grim such a grim month fir so many.

sammyjoanne · 15/01/2021 09:20

@Jano69 aww bless you, sorry to hear about your dad.
My daughter lost an uncle and her grandma (my BIL and MIL) just before GCSEs and the school was brilliant about it. Im sure they will take this into consideration when she takes on her mocks :)

IrmaFayLear · 15/01/2021 09:25

@BigWoollyJumpers and @Jano69 - my condolences.

I really hope Durham comes through.
