Previous thread - Obvs the end of term is looming sooner for some than for others? I guess the Oxbridge posse will finish by the end of November or just into December?

@bigTillyMint
There is that. She probably will continue those hours as much as possible.

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2019 19:29

Watch out Newcastle freshers! DS is off for a night out with DGodD who is in her 2nd year there..... ShockGrin

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 19:36

DD is going out (for once) in Newcastle tonight.

Benjispruce · 15/11/2019 19:52

According to DD Newcastle nightlife is the best!

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2019 20:01

Grin It has always been great for partying, even back in the Dark Ages when I was young Grin

Trewser · 15/11/2019 20:16

Are any of yours actually at Newcastle? Considering for dd2. Or are they Durham?

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 20:33

Yes. DD is.

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 20:34

Benjispruce I wouldn't know. DD hates clubbing, she prefers bars and pubs that aren't crowded. She doesn't go out much, but tends to socialise in halls more.

Trewser · 15/11/2019 20:37

Do you live near at all gin? Worried about dd2 as she is not as breezily confident as dd1. Academic, but not a massive party animal.

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 20:42

Hello

Dd is very well acquainted with Newcastle nightlife. You can be as tame or as wild as you like. Dd seems to like the ones nearer the station. In fact there’s 3 next to each other that all interlink to form some sort of massive superclub. Dd entered one and left via another which completely threw her!Grin

For Fridays she says: Feral fridays at Think tank, and soho rooms (free entry).

Can’t recommend Newcastle enough. It’s a compact city with everything you could need. Smart shops. Good restaurants. I suppose because it’s the only city for miles, all music and theatre tours stop here. Very friendly. Students Union good. Transport links to countryside or coast easy. Cheap. Student accommodation reasonable to very good (although Castle Leazes best avoided in my opinion). Dd got high A level grades and her course is rigorous. There’s at least 2 in her flat that got AstarAstarA.

Newcastle used to be the medical/science section of Durham University.

Many people stay there after they’ve graduated.

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 20:43

Trewser they are lots of people who don’t go out clubbing at all. Not a problem.

Trewser · 15/11/2019 20:44

Ooh sounds good. She's wanting to study one or a mix of philosophy, English, theology and classics Confused

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 20:47

In fact there’s 3 next to each other that all interlink to form some sort of massive superclub.

That would be DD's worst nightmare. In Newcastle you can party or not. DD isn't very confident or outgoing, but she is sociable and has made friends. We live about 2 hours drive away Trewser

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 20:48

Dd isn’t out this weekend as she’s busy with assignments.

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 20:51

I don't even know if DD has been to the SU for anything social. She has missed out on a few nights out due to ill health.

Oh, and her course is full on and difficult.

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 20:53

Trewser sounds good combo. I think both Newcastle and Durham have departments where you can combine a variety of subjects.
Very different university experiences I would think though. They are only 15mins from each other on the train so easy to look at both in a weekend.

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 20:54

I think Dd goes to the SU for the cheap Coop!

RedHelenB · 15/11/2019 21:21

Dd1 loves being at Newcastle and she's in her third year now. Jesmond where most students live out is very posh

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 21:45

DD and her friends have just signed up for a house in West Jesmond.

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 21:59

Yep Dd too Grin

ZandathePanda · 15/11/2019 22:00

Oh, not the West bit the Jesmond bit.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 15/11/2019 22:59

This conversation about Newcastle is making me so excited for DS1 in September!

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 23:09

The Christmas market starts tomorrow. DD had said she wanted to go, but if she has a good night tonight I suspect she will be too hungover.

justasking111 · 15/11/2019 23:34

DS is home. Lovely to see him.

My nightmare is a fire in halls, some worried parents out there tonight, pray that everyone got out safe.

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 23:50

What a nightmare. I hope everyone is safe.

I am reminded of a post I read about someone whose DC was in a flat share with someone who covered up the smoke alarms so that they could smoke in the kitchen. It is frighteneing how this fire has got out of control so quickly. Not another Grenfell I hope.

There will be some worried parents out there.
