Hope you don't mind - people have pent up comments about cheese graters and traffic cones to get out of their system!

Do they still do that?

I studied music a long time ago and the entire uni except the nmusic department got Wednesday after noons off back then. We had compulsory ensembles, (choir, chamber choir, orcehstra, wind band).

It caused some conflict when the drama department then started to schedule compulsory Wednesday afternoon rehearsals!

DS had his food parcel. He loves italian food, buys all their treats when skiing so I had a look on Amazon, so expensive but found an italian website where the prices were realistic. He is over the moon with his goodies. Bought him lots of different pasta shapes as well as chocolate goodies. Ordered Monday night, delivered this morning.

I'm a name change.

DC didn't get my parcel from Amazon. Amazon shows it was delivered but no sign of it and noone is ever on the reception desk out if lecture time. Confused

MumMcMumface · 09/10/2019 13:37

*of lecture time

Wondering whether to backpack and call accommodation. [MNHQ could we have a backpack emoji please? Grin]

MumMcMumface · 09/10/2019 13:39

🎒 may suffice.

MrKlaw · 09/10/2019 13:43

@MumMcMumface - are parcels delivered to accommodation or to central campus post office/collection area?

OP posts:
MrKlaw · 09/10/2019 13:44

for Bath they deliver to a central location and say wait for an email to pick up - its possible their receipt triggers amazon to say 'its delivered' even though they may not have processed it internally and sent an email out to your DC

DD's Amazon orders go to a mailroom and show as delivered/signed for at that point. It's usually another day or two before she actually gets the items. It was the same when she was at boarding school so I've always assumed post will take quite a while to get to her.

MumMcMumface · 09/10/2019 14:22

its possible their receipt triggers amazon to say 'its delivered' even though they may not have processed it internally and sent an email out to your DC. I don't think there's been an email yet and Amazon says it means delivered last Thursday. Sounds like it's gone missing somehow.

I was going to make a cake and post it but glad I didn't bother.

JennyWreny · 09/10/2019 14:24

@MumMcMumface I think your DD is in same college as my DD (I think she was in V at York) then they should get an email from the reception once a parcel is there for them to let them know.

JennyWreny · 09/10/2019 14:25

Ah, sorry, cross-post. Can you see from Amazon who signed for it?

MumMcMumface · 09/10/2019 15:02

@JennyWreny. Not me I'm afraid (I ne changed today).

Can see who signed so DC will try and email.

@SchrodingersKitty DD is also at Oxford. She has two problem sheets so far to prepare for tutorials next week so there is certainly work being given.
She’s finding the whole ‘being on show’ exhausting so is spending some time in her room just regrouping. She has also signed herself up for some counselling which for her is a good idea. She has had issues with anxiety before although she refused to tell Oxford about it officially.
Think I might write her a letter later!!

Witchend · 09/10/2019 15:49

@SchrodingersKitty Flowers Sorry it wasn't as good news as the nurse led you to believe. Bonding over shyness at fancy dress is definitely something dd would go for!

@Ingles2 @mum2eim Dd's maths at Durham and she was looking forward to a lazier day today. I think she said she had nothing booked, but will do next week.

SchrodingersKitty · 09/10/2019 16:39

@Numbersarefun: good to hear others have work - actually DS texted this morning to say he had more or less finished his and it wasn't as bad as he'd thought. He also has anxiety so would be good if he signed up for counselling. At the moment he's bombarding me with texts about technical difficulties with getting computer logged on, but won't do the logical thing and take it to the college IT people. I was very impressed that he had started using his phone calendar for appointments, but he obviously entered things wrong as he's twice been late for inductions today. All dyspraxia things which I really hope he'll get on top of, but very wearing at the moment.

Itscoldouthere · 09/10/2019 17:08

Only just realised there’s a new thread and you’re 6 pages in....
I though it was very quiet Wink
Lots of catching up to do!

GoldenRuby · 09/10/2019 17:33

DS is currently playing his sport vs a Uni a couple of hours away. He was taken into town this morning to buy 'BUCS attire' - chinos and a blue shirt, so they all look smart when they travel. I doubt they will look quite so smart on the coach on the way back!

SchrodingersKitty · 09/10/2019 17:59

DS has now texted to say that he has sorted out the order in which he has to tackle the various technical issues - IT fixed first, then text to speech software trial, then liaising with library disabilities person. Then added: 'seeing life as a puzzle game where you have to sort out the sequence of tasks makes it more enjoyable'! I'm so glad he is putting his gaming experience to good use! Perhaps he'll crack life admin yet.

I do feel rather belated on this thread as most of your DCs are several weeks in and over these first huge hurdles of independent life, but it gives me hope that he'll manage it.

Ingles2 · 09/10/2019 19:14

@Witchend @mum2eim I said to Ds2, maths/ physics at Durham was never going to be easy.. I just hope he's not panicking..
on a brighter note, ds1 had taster rowing this afternoon and loved it, so has signed up... I've been telling him for years he's the perfect candidate for it.. very tall and muscular, so I'm really pleased for him..

BringOnTheScience · 09/10/2019 19:14

Not heard from DC1 since Saturday WhatsApp video chat. Then get a photo of a big pot of chilli, saying "cooking for the flat".

This is the dyspraxic one who's had to work really hard at basic cooking techniques without hurting themselves. V proud!

Tinseltrauma · 09/10/2019 19:20

Anyone whose DC are at Durham , has your maintenance loan been paid in yet? Did your DC have to present any documentation? On student finance, it is still saying 'Awaiting confirmation '. I'm away next week so panicking a bit!

MissConductUS · 09/10/2019 19:50

ds1 had taster rowing this afternoon and loved it, so has signed up...

That's great. I've been a crew mum for three years. Pro tip: the meets are really boring and you can't see anything really from shore, but there's usually lots to eat.

Jano69 · 09/10/2019 19:53

@Tinseltrauma DS is at Durham and got his loan paid in last week. Very relieved as there were lots of last minute changes in terms of actual university and bank account.

bigTillyMint · 09/10/2019 19:54

@Tinseltrauma, DS AT Durham got his Maintenance loan yday. He said he enrolled/registered or whatever on his course on Friday if that helps!
