Hope you don't mind - people have pent up comments about cheese graters and traffic cones to get out of their system!

Ah this makes sense as I thought other thread had suddenly gone quiet. Confused

Lillian thank you for your thoughts on home vs uni cooking. Most of what you said would apply to DD.

She went to Nando’s, soft play and cinema on the weekend. She said Nando’s is a rip off at £12 for chicken and chips.

Chillywhippet · 07/10/2019 20:32

schrodingers that sounds like a great first day!

🤞 for you all for tomorrow at clinic. Lots going on for you. I’m not surprised you felt tearful Flowers

Mustbetimeforachange · 07/10/2019 20:42

Soft play, Chillywhippet?

justasking111 · 07/10/2019 20:45

DS made frittatas tonight, woo hoo. He had practiced twice at home. A breakthrough perhaps.

Chillywhippet · 07/10/2019 20:48

Must yes a soft play centre open to grown ups on Friday evenings serving vodka slushies.

Benjispruce · 07/10/2019 21:01

@SchrodingersKitty thinking of you tomorrow.
DD has gone all quiet since the weekend . I had to text her tonight just asking for a quick ‘I’m ok’ text which she did saying, ‘sorry, all good’ so at least I can relax. Still no reply to my request to see her timetable and whether she has received her maintenance loan!

JennyWreny · 07/10/2019 21:05

I appear to have joined the backpackers club

Ha ha @Jennywreny Grin

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2019 21:13

@Benjispruce, we had to remind DS to find his timetable on the portal yesterday - he said he had 2 intro lectures today, so glad we did! He is very frugal with his info to us, but sometimes joins us for banter on the family WA so I can see hes still alive!

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2019 21:19

@JennyWreny Grin

Benjispruce · 07/10/2019 21:22

@bigTillymint has your DS heard anything about paying for accommodation yet?

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2019 21:48

@Benjispruce, that's an ongoing saga - we don't know if he put his account or DHs account to pay it Grin
He is currently face-timing and moaning that his loan isn't come through yet (he only enrolled on Friday) and is saying that everyone else's parents have sent them a care package already Confused

Benjispruce · 07/10/2019 22:00

Enrolled??

bengalcat · 07/10/2019 22:07

@SchrodingersKitty good luck for tomorrow

Jano69 · 07/10/2019 22:16

@SchrodingersKitty wishing you good news for tomorrow, there's a lot going on in your life so don't be hard on yourself for feeling emotional.

Benjispruce · 07/10/2019 22:21

What’s a care package?

Bouledeneige · 07/10/2019 22:34

My DD bravely battled through freshers flu to go to a big drum and bass gig on Saturday and tonight is at the cinema to see the Joker. She's having a good time. Not eating that well but says that cereal is a god send stop gap. I've just booked train tickets and a nice hotel to go visit her with DS. Should be fun.

simbobs · 07/10/2019 22:34

I think my DS may have freshers flu. On the other hand it may also have something to do with the weekend's socialising. There seem to be an awful lot of bottles and cans in my bin. He's meant to be at uni but is spending too much on coming home and hanging out with friends here. No way will his loan last till Xmas.

WheelDecide · 07/10/2019 22:35

@SchrodingersKitty. Good luck tomorrow
& I hope your son enjoys Oxford.

justasking111 · 07/10/2019 22:52

Just got a shock, some italian biscuits DS loves thought to send through amazon.

Order Summary
Items: £6.81
Postage & Packing: £25.49
Order Total: £32.30

needless to say he will not be getting them.

SchrodingersKitty · 07/10/2019 22:53

@bengalcat, @Jano69: thank you very much for your thoughts.

@WheelDecide: thank you - I'm sure he will enjoy it in his own way: he's currently at the board-game evening they've put on as an alternative to the club night - I'm hoping he'll find some of his people there! He says that all the freshers are clearly a bit nervous, but lots of them think the clubbing will make them relax, while for him its the worst thing he can imagine. He seems pretty relaxed about making friends at a leisurely pace. I suppose we just have to trust that they know themselves and their own capabilities and limits by now.

Ginfordinner · 07/10/2019 22:55

DD messaged me to day to ask what she could make with lots of carrots. She had bought a big bag to make a carrot cake and had loads left. I think everyone is cooking for themselves in her flat, although she got together with the other vegetarian in her flat one evening last week to make veggie enchiladas. Everyone nicked her milk, so she is now using non dairy milk, which strangely enough no-one will touch Grin

Ginfordinner · 07/10/2019 22:57

Good luck for tomorrow SchrodingersKitty Flowers

Northernlurker · 07/10/2019 23:02

I sent dd1 a care package last week. Dd2 won't be getting them as she's stayed at home!

Contents: item she left at home, two packets of quinoa/multi grains that you microwave, packet of small luxury cheese biscuits, small pack Lindt truffles, continental hazelnut praline wafers, small bar dark chocolate, two new pairs of socks, aromatherapy oils to aid sleep and a packet of luxury flatbreads. Basically I went round waitrose buying the small, yummy and expensive stuff Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/10/2019 23:38

Its another chicken casserole for dd. With ham salads for lunches. Making several on a Monday is a habit she has picked up from me as I'm too lazy to make them daily for work so make 3 on a Monday and 2 on thurs. Glad she is resting some form of veg!
