Nudged DS to get his flu jab today, sent a link for him to do it.

His room is decorated, we bought him a new bed today. Then went online and ordered a rug, bedding and some bits. Hope he likes it eek...

Decorhate · 04/10/2019 20:01

Ds has had his first proper week but they are doing a group project first so not all lectures have started. He has (finally!) revealed that one of his flatmates is on the same course & 2 others are doing a related course so they share some classes.

That will definitely have helped him settle in. They are going out at the weekend to celebrate someone’s birthday but not venturing off campus just yet! He is home next weekend & planning to bring his bedding for me to wash...

Witchend · 04/10/2019 20:02

DD text to say she slept in and missed breakfast and first lecture! Why are they putting on early lectures in Freshers week?

I think they're just induction lectures this week. Dd had one this morning too, I think.

Citygirl2019 · 04/10/2019 20:09

Alicatz66 we are also from Brum so fairly easy to visit. I plan to go next weekend. Some of his school friends are in Broadgate so my DS does visit.

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2019 21:08

@Citygirl2019 ... My DS has no one from school there .. one friend from home at Trent ... but he seems to be bumbling along !! ... I've been noticing the freshers around Birmingham this week!!

Numbersarefun · 04/10/2019 22:07

Finally we are off tomorrow. This is number 3 and the last. Feeling quite sad about it, but she's so excited to be going although I'm sure they'll be nerves as well.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/10/2019 22:10

Dd managed to lock herself out Last night. And the 2nd year mentor who would have helped was in a and e. So she remained locked out until others came back. Then they toured each other's rooms until she coukd get let back in a 4am! No lectures today happily.

I'm busy stripping and painting her old room for dd2. Dd1 has asked for photos of the redecorating!

simbobs · 05/10/2019 06:02

Mine has gone home for the weekend as it is his friend's birthday. We are away, the heating is off and his bed is not made up. And there is no food.

Trewser · 05/10/2019 07:07

Numbersarefun I will be a mess when dd3 goes.

Citygirl2019 · 05/10/2019 07:25

Alicatz66 it is strange how you notice freshers more when your own is away, I've been the same.

DS has just the two girls that went to Nottingham from his school. They chat via social media but not friends he would of gone out with at home. He has popped over to Broadgate a couple of times (once was to give one a spare door wedge he had). But he's not been out with them.

He is trying to socialise with those in his halls.

What's your DS studying?

bigTillyMint · 05/10/2019 07:29

@DrMadelineMaxwell, sounds like a fun night rather than panic stations Smile

@Numbersarefun, good luck to your DD and you.

Alicatz66 · 05/10/2019 07:54

@Citygirl2019 ... DS is studying English and Philosophy. We had a brief chat last night and he said he has lectures every day and is also going to the gym most days.. not much exotic cooking going on ! Last nights dinner was a sausage sandwich! .. What is your DS studying?

Benjispruce · 05/10/2019 08:57

Good luck to this weekend’s newbies!

Benjispruce · 05/10/2019 11:06

DD was out sampling Newcastle’s nightlife last night and returned at 6amHmmso tells me she’s very much looking forward to the Collingwood brunch.Grin Hope she sleeps lots this weekend in preparation for next week.

Citygirl2019 · 05/10/2019 11:17

Alicatz66 he is studying geography. He has lectures most days but no many hours. He is catered, said dinner is basic and has yet to make it to breakfast. He has joined the gym, but certainly isn't going daily!! He has been out every night and is not getting home until around 5am! I'm hoping he will calm down a bit after this weekend.

Witchend · 05/10/2019 11:27

@Benjispruce sounds like she's being very sociable!

Dd passed on the trip to Newcastle nightlife. She said (very sensibly) that she might have gone, but as they were going by coach, she'd be stuck there until the coaches were going, and she didn't think she'd enjoy it enough to want to stay as long as everyone else. I think they had a quiet meeting playing games for those who were staying, which would suit her much better.

Alicatz66 · 05/10/2019 11:49

@Citygirl2019 .... My DS doesn't drink much and I worry he doesn't go out enough !!!!

DishingOutDone · 05/10/2019 12:06

Reading all this it helps me to understand why my DD wake awake from noise outside her room till nearly 8am this morning!

We've resisted trying ear plugs till now but I'll talk to her about it (not something I could cope with but I won't put her off); she's been there just over 2 weeks and its really affecting her mental health. Don't know what the answer is but we need to find one.

DishingOutDone · 05/10/2019 12:06

"... DD was awake" that should say. I'm sleep deprived by proxy!

Citygirl2019 · 05/10/2019 12:10

Alicatz66 my DS is not a big drinker (he is not able due to a medical condition), but loves music and dancing. He had booked gigs/concerts for Nottingham before he went.

But he does need to slow down as it's really not good for him the continued late nights and I worry that I'm not there to monitor him.

Alicatz66 · 05/10/2019 12:43

@Citygirl2019 ... I think we will worry whatever they do .. normal for moms !!! We should be proud even if they are bumbling on a bit at the moment !! .. Lord knows where my DS gets his non drinking ways ! Not from me !!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/10/2019 13:01

Lord knows where my DS gets his non drinking ways ! Not from me !! Same here! DS seems to have given up drinking Coca Cola too.

One of the girls in dds flat has moved out. They literally saw her once on the first day, then she didnt come out of her room and has now gone. I have a horrible feeling its the 'party flat' as apparently four other flats have their pres there. I was going to say something about noise to dd but realised it would be a pointless waste of time. She assures me she's been very kind and considerate to a couple of others who were struggling so who knows.

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/10/2019 13:21

Gosh, Trewser, do they know where she's gone? Was she on their group WhatsApp?

Trewser · 05/10/2019 13:30

No and no
