Tilly - hope you hear from DS soon.

bigTillyMint · 01/10/2019 20:42

I'm not sure where the station was in relation to John Snow, but it wasn't far from Collingwood!

I'm hoping Collingwood dont need gowns for matriculation as DS doesn't have one!

justasking111 · 01/10/2019 20:47

Re-nesting. Well DS room now almost empty, ceiling painted, all woodwork cleaned down, mattress in the hall, dismantling base tomorrow. Will use a carpet cleaner the carpet is fine. Painting walls tomorrow. Have to order a new bed. So hope DS is pleased. Am going to empty all the cupboards and drawers to tidy everything up as well. He did fill two bags for charity whilst he was packing, so there should be lots more room now.

Benjispruce · 01/10/2019 20:49

Tilly DD told me no gowns at Collingwood. Also my weather app says full sun in Durham tomorrow so boded we’ll for matriculation . DD text earlier to say the one bathroom is now out of action completely due to ‘maintenance ‘ so no idea if she’s showered elsewhere and I know she will have wanted to sort her long hair out before matriculation but not responding to my probing questions. Though it is Toga Tuesday I believe so otherwise engaged.

Benjispruce · 01/10/2019 20:51

Jealous of those of you sorting your empty rooms already, unfortunately work still expect me in Hmm

bengalcat · 01/10/2019 21:03

Stevo was my DDs first choice

bigTillyMint · 01/10/2019 21:12

Benjispruce, same here - I work full-time. But I had a spurt of energy when I got in last night and tonight Hmm

I thought it was no gowns, but then doubted.... No hair washing worries for DS Smile and I hope he has managed to tie the sheet I gave him into a Toga shape!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/10/2019 21:19

I've had a really horrible stiff neck today so I haven't helped dd with the wallpaper stripping as planned. Oh well. Theres always tomorrow. Ceiling painting follows. And wood sanding and gloss.

Jano69 · 01/10/2019 21:31

@bengalcat Wow! Is your DD at Stevo or was she allocated to a different college?

bengalcat · 01/10/2019 21:33

She’s at Stevo Jano

Jano69 · 01/10/2019 21:44

@bengalcat Great to hear I'm in good company on this forum. He's looking forward to the Stevo silent disco this evening.

bengalcat · 01/10/2019 21:48

Yes no idea what mines up to but I have been on Durham’s website and printed off the induction thing so I’ve some idea what she might be up to during the day and night .

Benjispruce · 01/10/2019 21:52

Me too Bengal, she left a copy of the freshers itinerary in her room. Smile

nokidshere · 01/10/2019 21:52

@bigTillyMint us too! We are positively rattling around here now they have gone. It's so weird

FrameyMcFrame · 01/10/2019 22:03

News from York,

Dd says they are to be transported to tonight's freshers event in York city centre by coach as it's not safe to walk along by the river as the water levels are very high. Shock

Northernlurker · 01/10/2019 22:19

Don't worry @FrameyMcFrame!

The river is high but there are lots of ways to go in to town from campus that keep away from river BUT we've had a few very sad incidents in recent years with people entering the river and the uni/students union are clearly just taking extra steps to keep people safe.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/10/2019 06:44

We walked into York along the river a few years ago when we were staying nearby on holiday. I could not believe that the houses riverside but on the outskirts (which to my mind looked impossibly beyond flooding, given their location high up above the banks of the Ouse) were in danger, yet they all had metal flood gates to show that the risk is real and that the river does flood that high.

Interesting toga photos arrived in the middle of the night. Who knew the Romans had glow sticks?!

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2019 07:22

@Benjispruce, nothing here - I now know why all my friends with DSs DDs age were so Envy I wonder if DS is in any!

Benjispruce · 02/10/2019 07:41

Photos were with people in her block. Did have to laugh, one lad had fashioned a toga from a quilted mattress protector Grin, she captioned the photo “Having the best time!” so I’m very happy. I sent a reply wishing her a good matriculation before I go to work and she replied immediately saying they’d all been woken up by pots and pans being clanged outside their rooms. Shock They’ll be hanging by the end of the day.

Jano69 · 02/10/2019 07:48

@Benjispruce Yep, Stevo woken up by clanging pots and pans too - I guess it ensures no one misses matriculation! Fantastic day forecast!

MrKlaw · 02/10/2019 08:21

:googles 'matriculation':

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2019 09:01

I know MrKlaw - DH did that last night Grin
I think it's only a few unis that do it.

My re-nesting must be bad - even DH has noticed! Though it seems to have spurred him on and he talked about sorting his clothes to charity shop/bin ShockGrin

RedHelenB · 02/10/2019 09:24

Dd2 well settled into uni life . I must admit I was a bit miserable when she left but I've got used to it geing just me and ds now. Nice to be able to give him more attention even if it is watching him play 2 lots of football in the pouring rain!

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2019 09:24

He has sent a photo!!!! Sunny in Durham Smile
