Previous thread - sorry about the lame thread title but done in a hurry!

Thanks @Jennywren. I'm still trying to find out what is going on.

Herocomplex · 30/09/2019 16:02

Oh god Benjispruce my DC had that at Collingwood, I think I mentioned it on the last thread. They only had a bath, bought one of those rubber hose shower attachments. Miserable. No rent reduction, just the luck of the draw. I suggested showering elsewhere. Hope all going well apart from that!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 30/09/2019 16:04

There's normally a phone number on the back of the bank card, that's probably the best place to start. Hope he gets it sorted out Flowers

Benjispruce · 30/09/2019 16:09

Hero it’s a proper shower but over the one bath. Just check Collingwood site and it says each floor of 10 standard rooms has 2 showers and 2 toilets. So that’s a lie! DD is going to phone shortly so will see if anything has changed.

AnyLawersAround · 30/09/2019 16:15

@MrKlaw. That's a lot of contact time. Is that some sort of engineering? DC is doing similar and has 20 hours.

Herocomplex · 30/09/2019 16:21

Benji I have to admit I was really cross about it on moving in day. There were two loos but one was blocked and flooded and the light didn’t work. I called facilities but my husband was concerned that I was going in to full bossyboots mode and hustled me away. My DC said the loo was fixed but the bath situation was a fait accompli. I had hoped the facilities had improved by now!

MrKlaw · 30/09/2019 16:43

@AnyLawersAround Maths. Looks like 5 modules and 2-3 lectures per module, plus 1-2 tutorial sessions.

There are some optional blocks. Language for extra credit he probably won't do (although being bilingual he would rock it, it doesn't seem to affect the final marks so he's focusing on the math); and MASH workshops which he hopefully will at least try for a while as he adjusts to self study.

MrKlaw · 30/09/2019 16:44

looks like 21 hours of contact time mandatory, plus 6 optional hours of MASH workshop time, and 2 hours of language extra credit.

Benjispruce · 30/09/2019 16:50

MrKlaw you know so much about your DS’s timetable. I have no idea! Confused

chocatoo · 30/09/2019 16:57

fozzleyplum and tommyshaircut DD also at Lancaster in a townhouse! All going brilliantly so far for her but I’m missing her like mad. Been extremely impressed with Lancaster organisation and friendliness.

MrKlaw · 30/09/2019 16:57

@Benjispruce luckily when I asked how his timetable was, as well as replying 'not bad' (stock answer) - he sent a slightly blurry pic. From that I could pick out the course numbers and check the uni website.

bigTillyMint · 30/09/2019 17:58

Benjispruce glad it's not just me Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 30/09/2019 18:51

I have no clue about anything ds is doing. He did tell me his timetable stuff adds up to 20 hours. But any questions about how he's getting on or whether he's enjoying it are being ignored. I have to assume that's good news. Week 2 of freshers now...I think after the 2 weeks of parties he will come back down to earth next week with a bump.

Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2019 18:55

When you apply to Lancaster , do you apply to a college? I am finding their website very confusing about accommodation!

Planning ahead for DS1!!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 30/09/2019 18:55

@RaptorInaPorkPieHat has invited me here from my WOE thread.

Hullo All!

I'll read back all the shizzle in a bit.

Benjispruce · 30/09/2019 19:03

2 weeks of Freshers? Wow that’s a bit much!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/09/2019 19:07

DS2 @Piggywaspushed? Isn't DS1 in Lincoln or has he had a change of heart?

Welcome @ChaosTrulyReigns. What is your WOE thread?

DS said he couldn't do a Skype call this evening as he's off out to watch the football. Not sure who with but hopefully not alone!

I think the second week isn't freshers' per se @Benjispruce but just the 'welcome back' events for the Yr 2 + students. At UEA the first years are well and truly immersed into timetables of study by now.

I went to send DS a parcel of goodies t'other day. It was going to cost me £13+ because it was 200g over 2kg (over which price point the cost rises very rapidly!). I did an about turn with the parcel unsent. Much as we love him, the cost of sending it was going to almost exceed the price of the contents!

icanbewhatiwant · 30/09/2019 19:10

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes....I'm not sure how much partying ds will do. But he bought a freshers week 2 armband. It doesn't look as good as week 1.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/09/2019 19:12

Your DS must be enjoying himself (even if you've not heard much from him) @icanbewhatiwant if he's bought the week 2 wristband.

Hi Chaos Grin

Chaos's WOE thread is Here in AIBU I thought you would do well here Wink

2 weeks of freshers? DD's was 10 days as it encompassed 2 weekends which is more than plenty, especially for those that dread freshers to start with. Although, having said that, DD is considering the freshers ball (this weekend) now. We hadn't packed her naice shoes etc as I really didn't think she would, I think friday night out with her new friends has maybe given her a taste of the night life Wink She's bought a ticket but is umming and ahhing as apparently it's casino themed and involves a bus (which means she has to stay to the bitter end, rather than bow out at midnight like cinderella). One of her flatmates has offered to buy her ticket off her if she changes her mind Smile

Clankboing · 30/09/2019 19:34

@Piggywaspushed no, you apply for the college at the end of the process. We asked for ds1 to be in Furness in June 2019 (as it was his first choice) just gone for September 2019 entry. You apply to Lancaster Uni.

justasking111 · 30/09/2019 19:39

I will put together a parcel for DS but order through Amazon. They have an excellent grocery section now.

Witchend · 30/09/2019 20:01

Wow! I'm suddenly feeling that dd's college choice was a lucky guess. They have small rooms with a tiny en suite, but dh says the kitchen is huge with a lounging area.
The downside is she is totally self-catering, so hope she gets into cooking fairly quickly or she'll be living off porridge!
She chose a modern college in the hope it would be warmer, but she did say yesterday she was cold.
She apparently had lots of induction lectures today so will have been busy. I've had a few messages, but no photos, but I wasn't expecting any.

Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2019 20:04

Thanks clank. That's what I thought but the website has v little detail about accommodation at all.
