Previous thread - sorry about the lame thread title but done in a hurry!

At the moment he is on my contract but when it runs out he can sort himself out so will mention that.

The wi fi signal is bad as well, that said.

MrKlaw · 29/09/2019 16:25

We were both drained last week - needed a quiet Sunday to regroup. I was the only daft sod crying - not all of us men are muppets ;)

Piggywaspushed · 29/09/2019 16:28

I have just made a roast chicken that was too large. It is feeling sorry for itself now.
On the plus side, multipacks of crisps are set to last 4 weeks rather than 4 days and snacks no longer need to stay at work with me/ in my car!

Benjispruce · 29/09/2019 16:36

Not home yet, about another half an hour to go. I am shattered and I slept well last night as per Premier Inn ads. Could really do with tomorrow off but sadly not.

simbobs · 29/09/2019 16:40

It does take time to adjust to buying things for just 2 people, and to no longer buy things that were specifically for DC. Our fridge is looking very bare now.

Benjispruce · 29/09/2019 16:41

Thinking positive, don’t have to worry about cooking two meals every night(DD veggie) although we often eat vegetarian anyway, sometimes it’s a pain.

Witchend · 29/09/2019 16:41

@Benjispruce DD has just sent me a photo of her with Henry from GBBO!
Dd would be so jealous! She's hoping to join the baking society at college and was hoping she might see him somewhere about. That would make her term!

@Serin Didn't mean to make anyone cry! Sorry!

Benjispruce · 29/09/2019 16:41

Still have DD2 15 at home so not quite empty nesters yet.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/09/2019 16:43

All the best to your students on their way into independence! Smile
I follow these threads every year with great interest.

DD could if needed walk to her courses. Which will save her quite a lot of money. She' s just compiled her introduction / getting started time table.

Ingles2 · 29/09/2019 16:56

What a horrid day for dropping off! Everyone ok???
Despite the weather, the journey was not bad at all.. left at 6am and we were at Hild bede at 12.30.. ds is in a room in the main building, looks gorgeous on the outside but pretty grim in the inside.. had to do a dash to Tesco as there was no hooks/storage at all .. bought a coat stand which he’s thrilled with. Was greeted by the college principal who informed us Hild bede was a community college and he hoped all the family would be involved (!!! Not my plan tbh) also met ds2’s college mentor family, which was a retired couple who were available for help and support.. they are looking after everyone on ds2’s corridor, so are hosting an introduction dinner later! It sounded like an awful lot of lunches and dinners this next week.. ds2 will be in his element he loves a good nosh up 😆

MrKlaw · 29/09/2019 17:01

For DD when it’s time we’ll definitely try to get accommodation sorted better. All this talk of organised reps, helping people unlock cars and make DCs feel welcome - because we were in ‘overflow’ accommodation there was literally nobody - just us figuring out how to get in etc. Not just off campus but also felt even more isolated by not having my uni reps on site to even say hi and make sure things were ok

Benjispruce · 29/09/2019 17:10

That’s a shame @MrKlaw as at DD’s college there were hoards of freps directing and carrying bags, music playing outside, balloons etc so a great welcome.

icanbewhatiwant · 29/09/2019 17:18

Has everyone's dc's had their maintenance loans now? It says online ds will get paid 23rd sept. But he's not had anything yet.

Citygirl2019 · 29/09/2019 17:24

My DS has had his maintenance loan paid into his bank.

TonTonMacoute · 29/09/2019 17:34

@Ingles2

DS was in Hild Bede last year and seemed to have a good time. I think he met his mentor once the whole year, so your DS's 'family' sound quite good. As we live in Cornwall we had no input into the HB community whatsoever! We did manage a visit though.

He has just moved into a house for this year, and seems to be enjoying it and is managing the cooking okay

Janaih · 29/09/2019 17:50

dd got her loan paid in on Thurs I think.

FrameyMcFrame · 29/09/2019 18:01

Apparently most get done at start of October

Alicatz66 · 29/09/2019 18:06

@Piggywaspushed .. agreed !!! I have an overflowing basket of snacks in the kitchen and would definitely have had to have hidden some chocolate in my pants drawer previously ! ... DS used to have 4 pints of milk a day and now a 2 pint lasts ages !

mum2eim · 29/09/2019 18:16

Yes a very soggy Durham but the singing dancing and music outside the college lifted the mood. There was a real buzz on the Bailey. There were lots of lovely students all introducing themselves to each other So I felt very much a spare part and made a quick exit. I’m a jumble of emotions as I’m sure everyone is and I think whatever the dominant emotion is at this point is ok. Tomorrow seems a busy day with college induction, tour and subject inductions too. I’m sure our DC will bump into each other!

FrameyMcFrame · 29/09/2019 18:17

Quick question....

I don't remember whether or how DD notified the student loads company of her new student bank account.

I'm sure this must've happened somehow but I'm now slightly worried they won't know where to pay it into when it comes.

Can anyone remember this step and how it worked.

Thanks, there was so much to sort out and Dd was not great at checking emails etc.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 29/09/2019 18:23

Dd has phoned to tell me there's a familiar face on her course. She couldn't place her then they realised that they had met at the debate society history week they attended last summer holidays.

She says that most in her flat are big inti parking but she has agreed to socialise with them in their kitchen when they have their pre drinks, but will probably then not go out out with them. A good compromise I hope.

bigTillyMint · 29/09/2019 18:26

@Ingles2, @mum2eim, glad your DC are moved in successfully too. We managed to avoid the worst of the rain, but copped it on the A1!

Long journey back but we are home now. It feels really strange and empty even though DS was out/in bed most of the time since Alevels Grin

bigTillyMint · 29/09/2019 18:28

@FrameyMcFrame, DS thinks he might have put his bank account rather than DHs to pay his rent Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 29/09/2019 18:30

Into drinking. Not parking. That would be weird.

Piggywaspushed · 29/09/2019 18:38

I love the idea of a load of freshers out every night, competitive parking.
