Previous thread. Possibly a little precipitous but for some of our DC their university start date is only just over a fortnight away. Yikes!

That varies quite a lot. there might be generic ones on the exam board website already but specific ones could be a long time coming.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2019 11:21

Nothing as fancy as underfloor heating for me! Just a DH who always says he's 'too hot' !

Benjispruce · 29/08/2019 11:26

Was in Wilko yesterday. They had a student aisle with cheap lamps, loo brushes 80p , coat hangers, duvets bins etc. Didn’t think of an iron. ! I presumed they’d have one in their block ?!Durham Collingwood- anyone know?

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2019 11:26

Bit late joining but very real now as DS2 moves to Aberdeen on Saturday! Eek!

JennyWreny · 29/08/2019 11:28

DD went to the dentist this morning. The receptionist asked if she was going to uni soon and then gave her a form for low-income households (HC1) and said if she puts her term-time address then she can get help with dentist and prescription costs.

Has anyone else heard of this?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/08/2019 11:31

Wow that's an early start @WaxOnFeckOff - is that for a subject like Medicine?

I have ground to a halt with kitting out DS, as he's got his stuff scattered all around his room. I have no real sense of how much more he and one adult can safely carry.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2019 11:33

Yes, I have heard of HC1 : but don't forget, they don't pay at all until they are 19.

We also went to dentist this morning! Snap! Just as well we didn't pay. His appointment broke all know world records for speed. I went to get trolley and by the time I was back he was done!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2019 11:33

Nope, he's doing politics and international relations. That's normal move in weekend and lectures start week beginning the 9th. Ds1 is going into 2nd year at Strathclyde but isn't due back until mid September.

Benjispruce · 29/08/2019 11:36

Piggy do dentists do trolleys now ?

ZandathePanda · 29/08/2019 11:42

We couldn’t get an NHS dentist. The waiting list was ridiculous. Didn’t matter too much until Dd has had problems with teeth and private dentists stop treating on the NHS at 18!

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2019 11:43

I realise now the trolley thing makes no sense unless you know our dentist is in Tescos!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/08/2019 11:43

I have a HC1 form printed out but it's been sitting in the 'to do' pile for over a week now. Looks quite a daunting one to complete (for an 18 year old).

I don't recall going to see a dentist or doctor the whole time I was doing my degree.

Wow that's so soon. How is he feeling about it @WaxOnFeckOff?

ifonly4 · 29/08/2019 11:46

WaxOnFeckOff - that's an early start. Moving in dates for DD are 7/8 Sept. No time slots have been given (so DD tells me), so aim to drop her off sometime 7/9.

Anyone others going to Scotland and starting earlier?

JennyWrenny DD saw dentist in Feb. No mention of a form here. They said they will keep her on their books even though visits home will be infrequent and may end up being yearly. Luckily the hospital in her uni city have a drop in centre for emergencies at hospital, supposedly guaranteeing treatment that day if in before 3pm, so we're going to leave as it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2019 11:49

He's excited but not actually doing very much organising. New bank card arrived today and he was supposed to update the loan company with his new bank details but no idea whether he has. 7 day tra sfer supposed to conclude on Monday which is when his first payment is due to be paid in. He's recently been diagnosed with dcd. He can't write legibly for very long and struggles with organising himself and his things, but I'm struggling to get him to engage with the disability service. He may arrive in Aberdeen in a hearse...

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2019 11:52

I've no idea about time slots, it's about 2.5 to 3 hours drive and weather to be horrendous. Halls at end of a no through route so expecting pandemonium. No idea when it's to be paid and he doesn't know how to get into his student email. Gahhhh!

JennyWreny · 29/08/2019 11:52

Piggy she's 19 next month so this will be her last free one!

TBH it's not so much the dentist but the prescriptions for her asthma and hayfever meds. She was looking into prepayment certificate but obviously if she is entitled to free prescriptions then that would be good.

Benjispruce · 29/08/2019 11:54

Ha piggy I guessed that Wink. Just booked DD an appointment as she’s 19 in September.

Benjispruce · 29/08/2019 11:57

She hasn’t been for 2 years as when I make an appointment for us all she says she’s busy. Luckily she’s never had any problems and is very good at looking after her teeth but just the same, good to get all clear before she goes until next summer.

Benjispruce · 29/08/2019 12:09

DD away next week with a friend so that’s her priority at the moment as still had no accommodation and flights booked! Luckily she doesn’t go to uni until 29/9. I’m practising deep breathing Smile

MrKlaw · 29/08/2019 12:20

Told DS last night - only 3 weeks to go this weekend. That lit a fire under his backside and made it real. Think he's been drifting a bit..

crosstalk · 29/08/2019 12:24

@Benjispruce Watch out on those personality forms. My DS's uni did one that was so rough and ready that my sports playing DS was put in a 6 person flat with people who just liked sports on tv and not playing it at all. He was also older than them and it wasn't his first time away from home. He's very clubbable but the personality types were very ill assorted. I realize they can't get everything right, but DS found it quite hard to move into the cheaper, more easy going accommodation. When he did he started enjoying himself more.

Herocomplex · 29/08/2019 12:28

Benjispruce yes there was an iron and board in the laundry room. The rooms were allocated very late! Pray you don’t get one of the few without a shower. (Hopefully they’ve had an update since 17/18)

CointreauVersial · 29/08/2019 13:30

Have put a rocket up DD1 to get cracking with all her admin tasks - if she doesn't finish the uni registration process and bank account application soon she will end up getting her loan late. It's driving me insane.

Haven't sorted a dental appointment yet, but she's not 19 until June, so will probably sort something out for the Christmas break.

ifonly4 · 29/08/2019 14:18

WaxonFeckOff- worth double checking on payment dates. DD's uni want tuition payment first week Sept unless they do it by DD, which delays first payment until earlier Oct. Her first tuition fee loan payment arrives two weeks later! Her maintenance loan starts two weeks after starting, so there could be gaps to bridge.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/08/2019 14:22

Thanks, he has money in his account and his wallet and the fees payment should go direct. His loan letter says the first maintenance payment is due 2nd-6th September, that will be triggered by him turning up and enrolling. We paid the £100 deposit for the accommodation but I don't know how the rest is to be paid. Away to google to see if I can find out while DS is out so I can grab him when he is back and get it sorted :)
