Following on from thread 8 which filled up in just 72 hours.

@Horsemad you’re kidding! Bad enough weird sized beds now induction hubs. Wouldn’t mind if the uni sent a nice simple list to help us out rather than what seems like a bad escape room experience at the moment..

JennyWreny · 19/08/2019 19:11

@Decorhate ISWYM, we just had a look. DD also going for Santander and has an appointment on Thurs. She mentioned something about an AS12? Which is the confirmation of your uni place. It's available online. No idea if that will work though.

JennyWreny · 19/08/2019 19:15

@Decorhate She found it!

www.santander.co.uk/assets/s3fs-public/documents/123-student-current-account-kfd_0.pdf

On this page mentions it about 4 lines down.

Horsemad · 19/08/2019 19:15

@MrKlaw, not kidding! 🙂 Might be worth a call to the accommodation people to check what type of hob is fitted.

JennyWreny · 19/08/2019 19:19

Sorry, not 4 lines down at all, but it mentions it in the Eligibility section.

Mustbetimeforachange · 19/08/2019 19:30

DS just "opened" his Santander account today. He already had a 16-19 one so it was transferred. All he needed was something confirming his place.

Decorhate · 19/08/2019 19:34

@JennyWreny Thanks. I’ll get him to look for that. I think he has sent a screenshot of his Track account now, not sure that will be enough.

MrKlaw · 19/08/2019 19:37

Bath confirmed on track. Phew. Now to get student finance switched over and a bank appointment for the weekend

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2019 19:40

For those opening student bank accounts, I just want to check this is optional. My DS has a normal current account, and doesn't want an overdraft, so I'm hoping it's fine to just use that??

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 19/08/2019 19:42

Re: induction hobs, if they attract a magnet then they are compatible (pretty sure I read that on mumsnet) Wink

Clankboing · 19/08/2019 19:45

I nipped in to the Range earlier. The prices of homeware are brill. I bought £15 worth of kitchen bits and got loads! I noticed that the stationery is cheap too.

ZaZathecat · 19/08/2019 19:52

Is anyone else's DC going to NUA (Norwich Arts)? Don't think I've seen it mentioned at all.

ZaZathecat · 19/08/2019 19:58

In space, it's fine, it's just that student bank accounts usually have benefits such as free overdrafts, a bit of interest and Santander give the 4 year railcard.

Decorhate · 19/08/2019 20:00

Ds says he has definitely not received the AS12 letter from UCAS. Does anyone know if their dc has had one?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/08/2019 20:06

What's the AS12 letter @Decorhate?

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/08/2019 20:08

Oh just checked @Decorhate. DS (for whom UEA was his insurance) received his on Friday. It's the confirmation of place letter (and the AS12 bit is top left hand side before name of applicant and first line of the address.

Hope that helps?

OP posts:
Decorhate · 19/08/2019 20:10

Panic over. He has found it in his UCAS account somewhere. I think he thought it would have been emailed.

hopefulmumofone · 19/08/2019 20:17

Regarding the AS12, on track in the big purple box at the top under ‘welcome back’ it says ‘next steps’ and ‘view your confirmation letter’. There’s an option to print this and this is what we took to Santander today and was all that was required as she already had an account so didn’t need to verify her identity.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2019 20:17

@ZaZathecat mine is going to UEA but one of his good friends is studying film at NUA my son went with him to look round and said it looked great. Friend is commuting though.

Decorhate · 19/08/2019 20:28

@hopefulmumofone Thanks. I’m beginning to wonder how he managed to pass any exams Grin

TapasForTwo · 19/08/2019 20:28

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream DD has a current account and has no intention of going into an overdraft. She already has a 3 year railcard as she has needed it for this year, so I don't see any advantage of her having a student account.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 19/08/2019 20:31

Thankyou tapas and zaza Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 19/08/2019 20:37

For those whose DC have applied for HSBC bank accounts, how soon after submission of online applications did they get texts to make an appt. in branch?

Ds didn't have to go to the branch at all. Just checked with him. He made one phone call after opening it to set up online banking.

juicy0 · 19/08/2019 20:41

I called our GP surgery today to book my DD an appointment for her MenACWY vaccine only to be told that they don't have it I stock Shock AIBU to think that in the month before undergrads start uni they might have planned to have some in stock 🤷‍♀️

juicy0 · 19/08/2019 20:44

@AtiaoftheJulii DD filled in the online forms on Sunday, received a text on Thursday and had an appointment today to complete the application. She said there was a constant stream of students coming in and out while she was there.
It seems strange that some are having to go into branch but others are not. Perhaps it's because none of us have ever had an account or any product from HSBC?
