Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Agree best to avoid catered halls!

NotSorry · 16/08/2019 16:30

Just back from UEA - really liked it so DS has applied and is now accepted! Phew! Now to sort accommodation 🤪🤪

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 16:33

I wish mine could have catered halls. Be one less thing for me to worry about!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/08/2019 16:45

@LaBelleSauvage123 My Ds is at Newcastle so happy to help if I can-
he loves it.
We are down South as well-I fear he will never come back!
Such a great city to be a student in-DS so happy there

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/08/2019 16:47

@NotSorry DD off to UEA as well-

very excited. what accommodation are you looking at?
what is your DS studying?

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 16:47

DD is fully catered. I’m so relieved as she wouldn’t eat well otherwise and she is a bit lazy so it would be toast, toast or maybe toast.Grin

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 16:48

Excellent news @NotSorry, welcome to the UEA crew. A friends DD joined UEA through clearing two years ago and secured campus en-suite accommodation, I think they are pretty good at fitting most people in.

Mustbetimeforachange · 16/08/2019 16:49

I think most (?all) of the on campus accommodation at Nottingham is catered?

Decorhate · 16/08/2019 16:51

Ds just got an email about his accommodation- wasn’t expecting it to come through so quickly.

Also, a bit taken aback that you pay in three instalments (it was monthly for dd)

Just off to sell a kidney now...

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/08/2019 16:53

@GoldenRuby have you got DC going to UEA?

Suddenly lots-we need a special MN sign on moving in day so we can recognise each other...

Should we all dress in Hush? Have a parking dispute? Wave cancelled cheque about? Grin
Seriously getting excited by this thread!!

Benjispruce · 16/08/2019 16:54

Grin I’ve no idea if monthly or not.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 16/08/2019 17:04

Oh blimey. We're another UEA family. Perhaps we should all clasp a Gregg's sausage roll?

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 17:06

Yes, my DS is doing Physical Education (wants to be a teacher). He did a Btec so got his results and place confirmed really early, so we didn't have a nervous wait for Track yesterday. His accommodation has already been allocated and he got his first choice - Village Plus. Hasn't found any flat mates yet but is hoping that once the accommodation emails start going out from Monday he will find some (UEA set up Facebook groups based on the main accommodation areas, but these are optional to join).

Tickets for Welcome Fest are on sale via UEA SU. I will be there on the 21st Sept with a packet of Pom Bear in lieu of a MN badge!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 16/08/2019 17:13

@GoldenRuby My DD had an unconditional so she also has her accommodation and has been in touch with 3 of the 6 flatmates.
Makes it seem very real!!

Am dashing out for the pom bears mow Wink

Fibbsdottir · 16/08/2019 17:17

Dd is irritated to see Sports science is still in clearing at Exeter, and only need BCC! BUT only for international students Angry really frustrating. Do you think it's worth calling them?

triptrapdollydumpling · 16/08/2019 17:24

We have York - Constantine Campus. Any others heading that way?

LaBelleSauvage123 · 16/08/2019 17:28

Mumsiedarlingrevolta that's lovely to hear, thank you. DS spent a whole weekend there when he went to the open day - walked 40km, ate sushi and drank craft beer, realised one of the tutors had written a paper he'd cited in his EPQ - came back raving about it and hasn't stopped :D

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 17:29

@Fibbsdottir can't hurt to try!

Alicatz66 · 16/08/2019 17:35

Just place marking ... my son has got the lace at Nottingham he wanted so very happy ... daughter chose to stay at home when she went to uni .. so I'm here for advice or to learn !!

Alicatz66 · 16/08/2019 17:35

The PLACE !!! at Nottingham!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2019 17:38

Dd is York. Not that campus though.
We have a travelodge room booked for the dropping off journey so we dont need to rush there and rush straight back in one day.

Dh is looking forward to the odd weekend away there through the year to pop in on dd when it suits.

Interesting to read that top results are the lowest they have been since 2007! Poor dd will always be disappointed that she missed an A in 2 of her results.

Alicatz66 · 16/08/2019 17:38

@horsemad .. your post made me happy !! DS has a place at Nottingham and I live in Birmingham!!!!

Dunlurking · 16/08/2019 17:44

Dd has just been given Halifax at York, fortunately the cheapest of the available options at this late stage. Does anyone know what she has to do about informing student finance that she's changed uni through clearing? She's arrived home sleep deprived but is managing to do a few things, like pay her accommodation deposit.

AWanderingMinstrel · 16/08/2019 17:48

LaBelle and Tapas- You dont have to go into catered halls for Nottingham. My friends daughter went there last year and was in the self-catering flats at Broadgate. I went there too many moons ago and loved catering in the first year especially as it leads to a more collegiate feel and the chance of friendships immediately mix with a larger group of people beyond the flat and your subject. One of my DC in first year this year had two people in his flat who he never saw and did not socialise with any of them.
