Carrying on from the previous thread which filled up very quickly.

That lamp looks very elegant. Made a mental note. I can’t throw myself into the whole uni shopping yet because I have no idea what August 15th will bring 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Mustbetimeforachange · 23/07/2019 18:25

Shiny, you think students iron??

Shimy · 23/07/2019 18:27

Must probably not, just being optimistic Wink.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/07/2019 18:36

DS seems to have gradually edged into the type of clothes that dry in five minutes flat...

That lamp looks lovely justasking111. I could find a home for that myself Wink.

@Shimy, yes know what you mean about 15 August. I have absolutely no idea how DS has done really. Just hoping his A Level results more closely align with his predicted grades than happened with his GCSEs...

Anyone else melting in this heat?

I think applying after you know your results will benefit lots of students - anecdotally it does seem that that some schools are pretty open to forecasting quite optimistic results!

  • Which don’t translate into achieved grades.

But that initial prediction feeds through to those students being more likely to get an offer on a course.

However, I think the PS should still be included as that’s where you can show off your subject passion, or years of building Lego skills (yes DS2 I’m looking at you) !

While we’re on it, another lamp recommendation:

Shimy · 24/07/2019 12:58

Zanda Envy Another lovely lamp, DS will certainly like the colour changing.

ProlificLurker · 25/07/2019 09:53

Zanda’s amazon lamp is on a lightning deal today (4 hours to go currently)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/07/2019 11:01

That's a very good deal. Thanks for pointing it out @ProlificLurker.

On the subject of Clearing, do you think it's likely that the current grades showing might go down in the days twixt the universities finding out our DCs' A Level results and the 15th? Trying to encourage DS to look for some alternatives to his current firm and back-up but not sure it's not too soon?

Mustbetimeforachange my DD has just done two years at private and was expected to do her own washing/ironing. She never bothered with ironing and said she doesn't plan to start for uni Hmm.

A bit of good news on the work front, DD went for an interview yesterday. She's got a zero hours contract for festival work if she's around Oct-April. She'll miss xmas work as won't be back until 21 Dec, but this would mean she could pick up a few hours in Oct, New Year and Easter if nothing else.

NewModel hard to say, but whether it'd be worth a call on results day to see if they'd accept him?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/07/2019 12:33

I think ironing is another life skill on a road to nowhere with our DC's generation.

Virtually all the adverts I'm seeing on MN at the moment are to do with 'Clearing'.

NewModel Good question. I’ve been thinking about that as well. I think they probably won’t be able to adjust entry requirements until results are released. Hopefully, they will be lowered, but we’re in a very conflicting situation on one hand ‘low birth year’ on the other ‘increase in international students applying”, so its hard to tell. I also think it’ll be a good idea to have a list of other universities to call on clearing day if firm and insurance don’t come up up trumps.

FrameyMcFrame · 25/07/2019 13:37

Hi everyone, just checking in.

Dd is getting nervous for 15th already.

We are not on the countdown yet though!

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/07/2019 13:59

3 weeks today! Eek! What time does Track update?

Shimy · 25/07/2019 14:07

Certainly not today! Mustbe Grin

Seriously I’m not sure, but universities get the results before schools do so we may get an email of an unconditional offer the eve before. Last yr, track crashed because so many were dying to access it.

Shimy · 25/07/2019 14:09

Slight diversion but did I imagine the slight burst of rain a few minutes ago? Hmm. I’m not very mobile and this heat is becoming unbearable.

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/07/2019 14:17

My DD had an email from her insurance uni 5 years ago which came at 5.20am, so although we didn't know the results we knew she hadn't made her firm. I think Track updated & her college then released the results at around the same time 8am ish) DS had an unconditional so it was all irrelevant. I thought there was a more definite timetable now, but I'm not sure.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/07/2019 14:17

Shimy are you sure you're not in a delirium with the heat? No rain here, I'm afraid to report.

Last yr, track crashed because so many were dying to access it. Was that first thing on Results Day morning @Shimy? Yikes, imagine having to go into school 'blind', not knowing whether you're going to be met by good or bad results. At least track gives an indication of what to prepare for. Rather reminds me of the secondary school allocation day annual fiasco..

Just started raining here

Mustbetimeforachange · 25/07/2019 14:19

8am apparently. I googled!

Shimy · 25/07/2019 14:21

New, it’s not impossible but I called ds1 to go and check outside for any clothes when it started, so he saw it too.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/07/2019 14:44

Only teasing @Shimy. Glad that some of you are getting some respite from the heat...The sun has gone in here so maybe rain is on its way.

I have DS's UCAS log-in details on my computer (as he did his application online with me), so I am going to find it very difficult not to log in to check his outcome on the 15th!!!

ifonly4 · 25/07/2019 15:52

@Shimy no rain here, but temp slowly falling, was 34c at lunchtime, now 32.5c.

I seem to recall some unis send out congratulations emails at 7am. Supposedly, DD's school email them at 6.30am with results, and are open at 9am if they need support.

Shimy · 25/07/2019 16:13

It’s starting to look a little bit cloudy here too, never did I think I’d be happy to see the sky cloudy.

FrameyMcFrame · 25/07/2019 16:39

My niece got on track at 1.30 am and saw she had got her 1st choice

...got her results the next day and she hadn't quite made her grades, but got the place anyway
