Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

I would welcome a reduction in fees and interest on debt but would think this isn't likely to happen for a few years or so (if ever!).

DD has a horrible cold - hoping she won't pass it on to her brother. Last thing he needs at the moment.

DS is lolling on the sofa, some virus or other. OH getting over a chest infection and I am struggling with pollen allergies. We are a sad lot just now.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 27/05/2019 13:50

justasking111 hope you all feel better very soon.

Half term is disconcerting- a bit like being in the eye of the storm!Smile

ZandathePanda · 27/05/2019 18:52

AWandering yes that’s a good way to put it. Dd has 4 exams in 4 days (her most important 2 on the same day).

Fingers crossed for everyone that all Dc are healthy for exams x

Laniakea · 28/05/2019 08:36

Yes exactly that AWandering ... I feel like we’re all holding our breath. Dd’s worst week is next week - physics 3, chem 1 & biol 1. But at least physics will be done then.

She’s at school today for a chemistry revision day.

justasking111 · 28/05/2019 09:10

I must have dialled gp dozens of times phone still engaged been trying since 8 am. Ds really poorly ditto me

ZandathePanda · 28/05/2019 10:25

justasking can you just wrap him up and take him in the car to the doctors? Or go to a walk-in centre? You need to get it documented if he misses an exam. I would email school too so they have evidence. Hope he is feeling better today.

bizzey · 28/05/2019 16:30

DS qualifies for the maximum maintenance loan (we are in England). He has a letter today saying he can have approx £9,000 - we were expecting to be approx £8000.

Does anyone know why?

justasking111 · 28/05/2019 18:43

Got an emergency appointment for him. It's a nasty virus keep an eye on him any spots do the glass test. . Gp did say son is run down. Not surprising at this stage. So no more work at the restaurant this week. This virus makes food and drink taste horrible so hope it burns out quickly we're both either freezing or puddles of sweat at the moment

FrameyMcFrame · 28/05/2019 19:09

George that's interesting! We haven't received DD's letter yet, dies anyone know when or how long it takes? We submitted it well before the deadline .

bizzey · 28/05/2019 19:50

@justasking111 ..hope your ds is ok.
This morning at my GP there were big signs up about a measles outbreak.

bizzey · 28/05/2019 19:52

Sorry should say they were printed vis GP as opposed to propergander posters.

SirB0bby · 28/05/2019 21:16

we got DS maintenance confirmation letter today. DH finally did his part of the application last week. DS and I did ours a while sgo.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 29/05/2019 17:54

Dd has had a further letter from student finance saying that the dwp can't verify her NI number and she has forms to fill in to verify who she is and they want her birth certificate.

I had a feeling this might happen. When she had lost her number and phoned up for a replacement letter they said that they hadn't got a record of her and wanted her birth cert. Sending to the dwp. We then found the original letter with her number so haven't sent anything off but I think someone (worringly) gas made an error somewhere with her number and its something she needs to follow up with and sort out.

I am anxiously sitting in an expensive car park , waiting for DS to emerge from his third attempt at the driving theory test. If you recall, he failed by one mark last time. Wish me luck...

Decorhate · 30/05/2019 16:15

How did he do?

justasking111 · 30/05/2019 16:33

Son no better can't eat sore throat, cough horrendous catarrh. Trying to keep his fluids up. The sweats are unbelievable. Worried About paracetamol on an empty stomach

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2019 16:46

Failed. Again. By 2 marks. Managed to miss on 3 road signs. Not happy as this should be the easy bit. He wants to give up altogether now. I think this is symptomatic of his general revision strategy to be honest : hopeless staring at a page or screen!

Mustbetimeforachange · 30/05/2019 17:20

Does he have the app for the theory test? My DS found that really useful. Sorry to hear he didn't pass, it's so frustrating.

errorofjudgement · 30/05/2019 17:44

JustAsking - Sorry your DS is no better, it sounds like a horrible virus, hopefully he will be better for the exams next week though I appreciate he’s not been able to revise at all. Are there any allowances he can get?

Piggy - oh no! How disappointing for your DS. A friend of DDs took her main test earlier this week and failed (again). I wonder if it’s too much pressure with the exams as well.

DD has finally had a chilled day, but got home mid afternoon and said she burst into tears at the thought of yet more revision.
So I’ve broken into the secret chocolate supply and am hoping hugs and chocolate will cheer her up!

justasking111 · 30/05/2019 17:48

Sacked off driving until exams over. Sat theory twice the second time on stuff he knew the first time. We're not discussing revision here. . The school know he missed an extra two mornings tutorial s this week

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2019 19:36

Thanks all : yes, he does have the app. Not sure it throws up the random weird Qs like the one he got last time about insurance excess!

This time, no excuses : he just didn't know his road signs.

GoldenRuby · 30/05/2019 20:48

I hope those you you with DC who still have exams to come don't mind me sharing some good news. My DS opened his post today to find his certificate from the exam board for his Btec Extended Diploma that he has just finished (we thought we would have to wait for A level results day). He got triple Distinction Star. Just waiting for Track to update, but it means he has secured his place at UEA. Phew!
