Anyone still waiting to hear from Durham?

Just wondered if anyone else is waiting to hear from Durham for an offer for 2019 entry?

See that offer holder day bookings are now open and I understand college allocation has begun.

DS still waiting here, DS application went through in November.....does this mean a rejection will likely be on its way?

Know of plenty of DCs waiting for offers - some submitted late September - English & History mainly, but I'm sure there are other courses too. Durham are known for taking their time and offers in March are not uncommon . If you wander over the Student Room, there are lengthy applicant threads & that may give you a better feel for your DS's subject area.

In short though, no it doesn't = rejection at all xx

DD waiting, applied early November. It's so hard to tell when they're going to hear. I did read they do it in weekly batches, starting on a Monday so offers are more likely to follow mid/end week.

DD has had offers from three unis, but looking at student forum two of those unis have only recently started making batch offers to others for her subject. Quite a few at her school were desperate for offers from these two unis and couldn't believe she heard so early, so again it's hard to know how they all operate as she didn't have to wait.

Luckily she seems quite chilled about it all (appreciate that's not the case for all of them though)l, doesn't want to make a rush decision and is more than happy with the offers she has (as are we). Would be good to know though, as that obviously would have impact on final decision.

Durham is slow. What they said was college allocations for those given offers by 1st February would come out this week.
There are lots of people still waiting, and it doesn't mean rejection.

DD is still waiting for a NatSci offer/rejection. She applied at the end of September. She has pretty much forgotten about them and is more keen on 2 other places that got back to her with attainable offers. Their loss....

I saw a friend yesterday & her son is still waiting for engineering, he didn’t apply to Cambridge so after 15 October. DD heard before Christmas for another subject.

Still waiting... International Relations. They’ve had it since early October. Friends have offers for other subjects. One applied same time (Oxbridge) one a bit later.

DS received his Geography offer within a fortnight of applying (application went in early December and he had the Durham offer before Christmas). He just got notification of getting first choice college too.

Sorry to all of your DC who have had such a frustratingly long wait.

DD didn’t get her first choice college but is signed up for the residential visit in March. The college she’s been offered is some distance from the others but she’ll have to figure out how much that matters for herself.

Dd just got her college allocation - her offer for Law came through just after the Oxford rejection ...

She's got her chosen college so just the small matter of A level exams to go now... she needs A*AA

I read the info on how they allocate colleges and it’s because they want to have students from different courses in each college.

Yes it's about subject mix Coleoptera, and therefore general mix. It's exactly the same in Oxbridge colleges where each subject is represented and has a certain(ish) number of places a year. But the thing about Durham is that every single first year with an offer will get a college allocation - unlike the really bad situation in some unis, where late offerees have to find private rented accommodation. I don't think it's worth getting wedded to a particular college in Durham anyhow - they don't have massively distinctive characters which would mean any particular student felt out of place. The catered/ self-catered thing is probably the only thing which might matter. And for those with a disability then proximity to department will matter. Other than that, it's hard to go wrong and as I say, every first year student is guaranteed a college (and therefore accommodation in sociable surroundings) and that has to be a major plus.

My DS is still waiting to hear from Durham for History - he applied at the beginning of November. As college allocations started this week and post offer days are being booked for this month and March, it seems an odd process and it's sad to read some of the comments on Student Room from applicants who are anxiously waiting and constantly refreshing their emails for news.

I think it's a self-defeating strategy. DS had previously said Durham would be his first choice but is now so fed up waiting that he says he prefers another choice. I doubt he'll end up there even if he gets an offer.

Dd is only one in her state comp to get an offer from Durham. She has also been given her first choice accommodation so is arranging an offer day to stay there in March.

Scabetty is your DD the only one to have heard she's been offered a place, or the only one to have applied to Durham?

It's looking likely to be DS's firm choice (although he has no intention of doing an offer day). If he does get the grades he will have company from his school (last year 8% of the Year 13 cohort took up places there).

NewModelArmyMayhem18 - she is the only one to have heard so far. Her friend has just interviewed for Dentistry apparently so is waiting to hear. Dd is waiting on Edinburgh as her insurance so wish they would make a decision. Otherwise insurance is Loughborough.

Scabetty your daughter has similar taste to mine (who has heard from Loughborough but is also waiting for Edinburgh). Dd’s other choices are Manchester & Exeter. Wherever she goes next year it’ll be a long way from home.

Her choices were Durham, Bath, Edinburgh, Loughborough, Warwick. Bath was favourite but accommodation is so expensive so very relieved Durham has become her first choice now. She has chosen Josephine Butler as wants to cook and can live on pasta and pesto Wink

@scabetty my DD is JB for exactly same reason - she wasn't impressed with the food in Van Mildert on the open day at all...

Durham is cheaper than her insurance too - that's Liverpool where halls prices are ridiculous compared to private accommodation - my DS is a 2nd year and is paying over £50 less per week than he did in halls last year ...
