Hi a new thread with DC applying to Vet Med next year or for anyone with DC already studying who could pass on some words of wisdom!

My DD is looking to apply to Cambridge, Surrey, Nottingham and Bristol.
She has a fair amount of work experience arranged already and we will do the open day circuit next year.

Glad dog is getting better. At least when our kids qualify we can get cheaper vet fees.

mumsneedwine · 23/01/2020 18:55

Apologies, glad Cat is better. I'm still a bit shocked.

Scottandcharlene · 23/01/2020 19:19

Ha ha, it was the dog being ill which started all this. He has torn his cruciate ligament hence the tablets which the cat ate. We will have plenty of work for dd when she qualifies, we have 75 cows, 275 sheep, 10 hens, 2 horses, 2 dogs and a cat!

mumsneedwine · 23/01/2020 19:52

Now if I'd only have known you a year ago when we were looking for work experience 😂😂. DD first saw a cow when TB testing and was standing right in front of the gate as they were going to release first one. The farmer suggested she might want to move !!

Scottandcharlene · 23/01/2020 20:02

🤣

FrenchieK47 · 23/01/2020 20:19

Hi there

DS is a second year at Nottingham. He did prelim year so is actually in his third year at the school. He loves it. I'm happy to answer any questions anyone might have about Notts or prelim year. x

mumsneedwine · 23/01/2020 20:19

Oooh we are being mentioned on TSR !!! Someone has seen DDs offer. Hello TSR reader - hope you are doing ok 👍

handmedownqueen · 24/01/2020 18:06

DD just had an email for interview at HK in Feb. Keeping fingers crossed it can be an insurance offer as it’s not too far away. Still no news from Bristol. I think it’s brilliant that your DD pulling out from Edinburgh as another applicant will get good news

3catsandadog · 24/01/2020 18:25

Congrats on HK offer! We have no news from Bristol either -I am hoping we do not have to wait til March.

Sorry misread HK interview (hopefully future offer)

Notts have sent an email saying they have still to go through a lot of applications and should hear by 31/3 ! So no rush there either. Puts DD off a bit as she wants to get on with it now. Mocks next week so fingers crossed.

Great news about HK interview. I do like Liverpool's system of everything on same day as the drop feeding makes it all a bit more painful for the kids. They just want to know so can decide. Good luck to everyone with interviews and still awaiting decisions (most of us I think !)

Scottandcharlene · 24/01/2020 19:31

Congrats on the HK interview Smile . It definitely puts you off a bit when you have to wait so long to hear. Liverpool has a great system. @FrenchieK47 good to hear your ds is enjoying Nottingham. How did he find the student life at Sutton Bonington and where is he living now? Does he have a car there?

FrenchieK47 · 26/01/2020 20:16

Hi @Scottandcharlene . Congratulations to your dd for her offers, brilliant achievement. Ds loved life at Sutton Bonington, he was there for 2 years; prelim and first year. He was a bit concerned about the distance into Nottingham but in fact it wasn't such a problem - the free hopper bus runs every half hour until about 11pm and then he shared a taxi back to campus which ended up costing about £4 if there were 4 of them. He found the community on campus really lovely and supportive too and there aren't just vets there so it was nice to meet students on other courses. He's now in Kegworth which is a couple of miles away. Two of the boys in his house have cars so he hasn't bothered because parking is a bit tight in his road, his girlfriend lives in Kegworth too and also has a car so he can always get a lift from someone. Although sometime he quite a likes a walk.

Scottandcharlene · 26/01/2020 21:22

Thanks FrenchieK47, that’s all good to hear.

Bati · 30/01/2020 11:01

How is everyone

Dd has received an offer from RVC Smile

3catsandadog · 30/01/2020 11:18

Hi Bati thats great news congrats to your DD. Has she decided which she is going to firm and insure yet?

Scottandcharlene · 30/01/2020 14:54

Great news Bati Smile, we are still waiting for Bristol...... bit bored now!
It’s parent’s evening next week and dd has her summer exam timetable now - eek!

mumsneedwine · 30/01/2020 15:51

Great news. RVC dribbling them out. DD in middle of mocks so no thought yet to where she is going to go. And it's her 18th on Sunday so doubt anything will be decided for quite some time

Mum7400 · 31/01/2020 11:42

My DC had an offer from Bristol yesterday and a rejection from Harper Keele, so pleased as offer lower than expected

3catsandadog · 31/01/2020 12:47

Well done on your DC Bristol offer Mum7400. Are you waiting for any more unis to reply? Which one will your DC firm?

OP posts:
mumsneedwine · 31/01/2020 14:08

Great news. Got to love a Bristol contextual offer 😊. Mocks finished here and 18th birthday weekend ahead. She deserves a break. Good weekend everyone.

Scottandcharlene · 31/01/2020 14:47

Congratulations Mum7400, that’s a nice offer to receive. Happy birthday to your dd mumsneedwine, hope she has a good time celebrating. They definitely need a break at times, as do the long-suffering mums! I’m off to London to see dd1. Hope everyone has a good weekend Smile

Mum7400 · 31/01/2020 14:50

Thank you, waiting to hear from Nottingham, had a rejection from Harper keele and offer from Surrey. Really undecided will have to go on offer days to decide. Very excited

mumsneedwine · 31/01/2020 16:02

We are going to London tomorrow too. DD1 coming home from Uni later and then a girls shopping trip - combining it with a snoop around RVC accommodation options 🥳. I hate shopping so will take a kindle.

Bati · 03/02/2020 15:00

3catsanddogs Yes she has decided and has now been on UCAS and put in her firm and insurance and declined the others Smile
What about your dd, has she decided x
