You’ve most definitely earned a bit of respite somerset...! It must be a bit frustrating that your DD can’t apply for a transfer until 16TH July though! Do you have any idea how long they will take to make their decision about offering her a place...🤔

SomersetS · 22/06/2019 19:53

Up to 4 weeks I believe. Should know by A Level results 🙄

Pepermintea · 23/06/2019 08:58

Really hope your DD can transfer Somerset! And that you can all relax a bit now.

DD came home from Cardiff last Sunday. Lovely to have her home for a bit. She is going to volunteer in a mission hospital in the Gambia for some of the summer which should be a great experience. So now she's got s job in a local restaurant to fun it (plus a holiday to Croatia with uni friends)

specialted · 23/06/2019 18:40

Fingers crossed for your DD Somerset!
Dd now home from Notts, exam results tomorrow Confused. She is off to zante on wed with home friends. Can't believe first year is over. Does make me chuckle when all her friends consult her with their medical queries!

Movingmountains · 24/06/2019 07:13

Everything crossed for your DD Somerset - she so very much deserves the place for her perseverance alone!
DS came home a couple of weeks ago and now off travelling across Europe with his medic friends! So much more relaxing than last year 😊

swingofthings · 25/06/2019 11:54

Good luck to your DD Somerset, I agree she certainly deserves to see her perseverance rewarded.

DD has been abroad and then camping in the UK, now back home working. She did very well in her exams and has had a wonderful year all around. Medicine was definitely the right path for her.

mumsneedwine · 25/06/2019 15:11

Crikey. My DD only got home 9 days ago after exams. And then worked at Royal Ascot earning a fortune (drunk people are very generous). Exams all passed and she got lovely feedback from her OSCEs which was nice. Now working all summer as wants to travel next year for 3 months. Can't quite believe she's going to be a 2nd year !!!

SomersetS · 31/07/2019 13:28

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
SHE'S IN!!!!!!
Transfer to Medicine at Leicester approved after a year of hard work & cracking results in Medical Science.
Lots of jumping & screeching going on here.
I cannot describe the relief & excitement!
For others who miss their grades... it's not over until it's over. Do not ever give up hope!
OMG OMG OMG OMG

muddlethro · 31/07/2019 19:50

I am crying with joy for you and your DD Somerset! What a rollercoaster your daughter has had! HUGE congratulations to her, for her hard work and perseverance - there will be no wiping the smile from your faces for some time to come ! Enjoy this moment - one you will never forget! So thrilled for you. You can order that stethoscope now... 😉💕

SomersetS · 31/07/2019 20:05

@muddlethro she's out & I just have. Burgundy with Champagne.

Feel like I've got ants in my pants.

She does so deserve it & I am delighted. Just goes to show, it's not over until you quit.

Good luck those hanging on now.
Good luck to those wading through prospectus' and UKCAT !

muddlethro · 31/07/2019 20:31

Great colour choice Somerset, and one purchase that I’m sure you can appreciate more than most! ❤️

Zog14 · 01/08/2019 00:14

Fabulous news Somerset. I am a long time lurker, work in NHS and enjoy reading the stories of perseverance of our medics of the future.
When I read your great news, I actually felt my eyes fill up, must be getting soppy in my old age!

I wonder how many other mumsnetters have been quietly rooting for your daughter?

Well done to your daughter!

Thank you everyone for your support. It has been a tough 12 months but I'm certain DD will be better for it now (easier to say after the event!).

Baytreemum · 01/08/2019 19:49

Sooo happy for you Somerset! Super well done to your DD!

booface · 05/08/2019 13:44

Can I add my huge congrats to you and your daughter! Such a lovely story of tenacity and no one deserves their place more than her. Really delighted for you. Hope she has a wonderful first year and do let us know how she gets on.

I'm loving having our DS home for really nice long holidays. He's been here there and everywhere, but it's fab him being around. He's grown up so much this year. He took a good while to settle and is wasn't plain sailing from day 1, but I think going back in year 2 he will be much more at home. Only 5 more years to go ....! (Edinburgh so it's SIX years!)

Somerset I am overjoyed for you and your DD - fantastic news - last year was such a rollercoaster for everyone and I felt like we all supported each other so it was heartbreaking that some of our DC didn’t get in! I am so pleased she can now be the doctor she dreamed of being! Does she have to start year 1 or can she go into year 2 as she did biomed?

SomersetS · 09/08/2019 22:01

@Movingmountains she will start year 1 but with a year of maturity behind her, out of halls, familiar with the city & Uni, some nice friends, clubs & covered much of the course content I think she will find it a bit easier than straight out of school hopefully.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts & support.

SomersetS · 25/08/2019 13:26

Ladies (& gents?) - any must have books etc for DD starting Year 1? Have the lab coat from last year & bought the stethoscope. Course comes with an IPad. She has laptop phone etc & "clinic clothes".
Almost can't wait for her to start though will miss her after a long summer break.

mumsneedwine · 25/08/2019 13:46

Anatomy colouring in book and flash cards. And lots of pink vodka 😁😁
