Happy Christmas to all the 2018 (and new ones!) Mums 🎄
Hope all your DC are safely back from med schools and enjoying being looked after. My DS has come back with a horrendous flu thing - he is feeling very sorry for himself. Think he may have been burning candle at both ends!

specialted · 22/12/2018 08:32

Thank you moving mountains and happy Christmas to you all too! DD Also come back with same thing, has been ill all week! Hopefully they'll recover in time for Christmas Day.

mumsneedwine · 22/12/2018 08:51

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄. DD home and bedroom a tip already. Her sister is v pleased to see her and they went skating yesterday. She was bit poorly last few weeks but thankfully left it in Notts so hasn't brought anything home. But I'm restocking her medicine cabinet for when she goes back.

muddlethro · 22/12/2018 08:54

Thanks movingmountains....2017 mum here, but also want to wish you and your DC a very Happy Christmas.....🎄🙂

adrinkofwater · 22/12/2018 20:08

Happy Christmas to you all and your DC. Am really enjoying having DD home despite all the extra mess!

booface · 22/12/2018 21:31

Hi to all of you. Good to hear your DCs are home. Sorry about all the bugs.. My DS has been back one week. I got all his favourite food in and made his room up all nicely, but he has had one meal here, and slept here less than half the time! Oh well, I am glad he has a great bunch of "home" friends that he is so keen to see I guess! I know my place in the pecking order..Smile

But the good news is he has got in group of 4 and they will be looking for a place together next year. I had been a bit worried no-one had asked him! They are not medics, a bit of a mix of arts and law. But v happy that he has settled into a group! All boys, so hopefully they will do their best to make a good impression on landlords... apparently it is v competitive in Edinburgh and you have to draw up CVs and present yourself for interviews with the owner....!

Happy Christmas all

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and has enjoyed having their DC back home. We are taking DD back to Cardiff today. It will be strange not having her around again. She has exams next Tuesday and Wednesday, so has been doing quite a bit of work as well as seeing friends and fighting a cold!

swingofthings · 05/01/2019 12:29

Happy New Year everyone! Hope all our new medical pupils are now fully settled and happy with their course. Good luck to all those preparing for their first big exams.

DD has been home for almost a month but in between working, seeing friends, family, studying and sleeping, I've not seen her more than an hour or so there and then. She's now on holiday with her boyfriend and expect will.e back to Manchester as soon as she's back. Nevermind, she's happy and fulfilled, so am very grateful and more time to give DS the attention he didn't get last year!

booface · 05/01/2019 14:24

Happy New Year all. Good luck to those taking their DS/DDs back for exams etc.

Like swingofthings, I have hardly seen my DS, but also glad he has a great social life here (well, tbh, I did get a teensy bit resentful of all the partying and 3am crashes back into his room, but better that than no-one to see I guess!).

He is going back to E'burgh next Sunday. Then a long term until they finish in May.

Happy new year! Have loved having DD home despite her having a permanent cold! She has another week at home and assures me she's going to do some work. Luckily she has no exams until the summer. She is enjoying going out with home friends and being looked after at home but I think most friends go back this weekend so next week might not be quite so sociable for her. Feel the same as you Swingofthings being able to devote more attention to DS this year! Not sure he's quite so grateful for it though!

Movingmountains · 06/01/2019 08:56

Happy New Year to you all. We also have DS home for another week and he doesn’t have exams so hoping for some nice quiet evenings this week. He has been ill pretty much the whole holiday with an awful cold but it seems to be finally going. I am not looking forward to him going back as it has been so lovely having him home

Baytreemum · 08/01/2019 12:23

I don't know if any of you remember us from last year and our dreadful experience of rejections due to mucking up the ukcat?! Well I thought you might be happy for my DD now as despite all that, she managed to ace her A Levels, re-sat ukcat, applied again and got offered a place at med school just before Christmas! She still has another interview to hear back from and has 2 more interviews coming up! So the pain has been worthwhile! and she is also learning and developing so much volunteering and working in her gap year. I would definitely recommend taking a year out and trying again if you are set on becoming a doctor.

specialted · 08/01/2019 12:37

Baytreemum that is fantastic news!! Huge congratulations to your dd! Her perseverance has certainly paid off, you must be feeling v proud!!

Baytreemum · 08/01/2019 13:58

Thank you so much! Yes, it has been really hard but now oh so worth it!

adrinkofwater · 08/01/2019 14:12

Baytreemum that's great news! Well done to your DD! You must be so proud of her.

muddlethro · 08/01/2019 15:41

Baytreemum....I do remember you! That is one of the best pieces of news I've heard this year! If I could still somersault, I would...! 😛 Huge congratulations to your DD....👏🏻

Baytreemum · 08/01/2019 15:52

Thanks so much! And thanks to the poster who recommended Kaplan! Before that, we had no idea about ukcat - no one warned or advised us, school did not tell us anything and we were totally on our own...

Movingmountains · 08/01/2019 18:50

Baytreemum - congratulations to your DD - it is always worth persevering with if you really want something and she has proved that. I hope she can now enjoy the rest of the year. Where is she hoping to go?

Woodenhillmum · 08/01/2019 19:38

I remember you too .That is such great news Baytreemum , Congratulations to your daughter and you are absolutely right about how taking an extra year can have other benefits. So pleased to hear this

booface · 08/01/2019 20:11

So pleased to hear that baytreemum! That really shows the value of hanging in there and she did so well to ace the A-levels and The UKCAT. I hope she will be very happy wherever she is going.

Thanks everyone - I've found the mumsnet so helpful and supportive even at the most difficult times. Thx for being there.

mumsneedwine · 08/01/2019 22:19

Great news baytreemum. And fully deserved. Anyone who can do UKCAT twice deserves a medal.

Baytreemum · 09/01/2019 10:28

I have offered her a skeleton! And, movingmoutains - probably London, depending on the outcome of the other interviews.

mumsneedwine · 09/01/2019 16:17

Such lovely news baytreemum. And I agree, anyone who can UKCAT twice deserves to succeed !! Keep offering mine a skeleton but she says no. She does like her v pretty stethoscope though. Good luck to everyone's kids this term.

mumsneedwine · 09/01/2019 16:17

No idea how I did that 😂😂
