Looks like we need a new thread.

DS said STEP 'wasn't very good'. Further questioning (I don't normally do this, as we have an agreement not to discuss the exams) revealed that he completed only one question. I guess that's the end of that, then, though my official position is still 'wait and see'.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 17:48

I managed to thoroughly upset dd by questioning her about it :( I wish I hadn't. I think she's has scraped the four questions if you put her partials together with her full ones. She thinks she has blown it though.

Hi all you STEPPERS; relax and enjoy the summer now! We were there a year ago. Last year ds2 was happyish with STEP III, but disappointed with STEP II. Just missed his offer, but still got in and has had a great year.

STEPmum18 · 21/06/2018 19:26

Well it seems DS didn't complete any full questions today. I'm not asking for any more details though as it's done now and it's time to move on. As I said to him, Durham is a very nice place too!! He doesn't seem to be upset, just says it was what he expected really. I don't think he regrets trying for Cambridge - surely some of the extra work will have helped prepare him for the work at uni and at least he will always know he gave it a go. That's got to be better than wondering what might have happened. ( And there's a tiny bit of me that is thinking there could still be a chance if everyone else found it difficult....... Ever the optimist!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 19:38

Thank you Roisin, did you have to wait til the morning to find out if it was ok? It seems horrid that they can get their step results at midnight but not know if they are in til the next day or even longer.

Wise words, STEPMum!

I’ve got to the stage now where I feel that DD has done her absolute best and although there’s still one more maths paper to go tomorrow, it’s all in the hands of the gods and it’s time to chill and let it go. Every time we put the radio on to drive to the next exam there’s a burst of this:

If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be
Baby, just let it be
If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be
Baby, just let it be
So, won't you ride with me, ride with me?
See where this thing goes
If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be
Baby, if it's meant to be

So that’s it now. I’m sure as results day approaches we will be knotted balls of fear, hope and anxiety, but as far as possible from here till there, I’m determined not to let it rule our lives. I’ll do my best anyway Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 21:14

You guys are much wiser than me!

OYBBK He didn't know, or had forgotten about accessing the STEP results, so only checked them next morning; and shortly afterwards UCAS updated, so he knew he was in.

It is a very brave move to put yourself through step and apply to be a Cambridge mathmo. It's a gruelling, high-stakes process and there are far easier routes to an undergrad course. So you should be very proud of your STEP children for having given it a go, whatever the outcome.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 22:06

That's a good way to do it roisin.

I am so proud of dd. How she does in a single paper won't define her as a mathematician or a person.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 22:13

I pmed you Roisin.

OP posts:
STEPmum18 · 21/06/2018 22:23

Same here OYBBK. I 'm so proud of DS for having the guts to try. 👍 Now STEP is over we can focus on other things -
Core 4 tomorrow
Further Pure 2 on Monday
D'S 18th birthday on Friday 🎁🎉
And......
We fly to USA on Saturday!!! ✈ 5 days in New York 🗽and 4 in Boston. A family holiday with DH , DS1 plus girlfriend, DD and last, but not least, DS2 who can forget all about maths until results day. Can't wait.😁

STEPmum18 · 21/06/2018 22:26

By the way, what has the reaction been on the student room? I Can,t seem to get on. Must have got my login details muddled - it,s easily done!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/06/2018 22:32

That sounds amazing Grin

SR has a moratorium on talking about STEP until tomorrow as it is taken internationally. I'll feed back tomorrow.

Thesearepearls · 21/06/2018 23:28

Congrats to your DD, Kaiser! Well done!

If all the STEPPERS thought it was horrid then doesn’t everyone have a chance?

toomanytolist · 22/06/2018 09:16

Lots of C4 luck to everyone taking it this morning! DD thought C3 was fine earlier in the week. What Roisin says about the Steppers being brave is so well put - lots of luck to all of them

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/06/2018 10:42

I think we can breathe a little about the step 3 paper. There's a consensus emerging that it was the hardest paper they've ever seen.

OP posts:
kaiserschmarrn · 22/06/2018 17:20

OYBBK, that's interesting. Did you get that from studentroom?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/06/2018 17:23

I did. There are relatively few posts about it, but they are fairly unanimous,

OP posts:
STEPmum18 · 22/06/2018 22:26

DS said C4 was good so he's in good spirits today. Just one more to go now. Phew.

Thesearepearls · 25/06/2018 19:02

FINISHED!

DS said stats and FP3 were okay. He's gone out with his friends - yay!

I wish everyone on the thread love and luck and let's reassemble for results. I hope everyone gets the results they need to go.

Flowers
STEPmum18 · 25/06/2018 19:30

Finally all finished!! DS thought Further Pure 2 was good. He seems fairly happy with everything except STEP 3 (and not overly confident about STEP 2). We can now enjoy the summer - good luck to everyone's DC and I hope they are all happy with whichever uni they finally get to.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/06/2018 20:35

We survived! They survived!
Exams went really well today. Good way to finish. Let's pretend August isn't happening though.

OP posts:
YippeeTeenager · 25/06/2018 22:36

Well done, well done, well done! Time to breathe, relax and bask in sunshine!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2018 07:40

The sunshine is very well timed :)

We've all agreed in our house there will be no talk of results day until after July. That gives a month of mental freedom. Hopefully!
