Hopefully this is in time!

First night of insomnia complete for me and DS has developed a stinking cold!! 2 days to go!!

marmiteloversunite · 08/01/2018 10:59

My DD looked awful this morning. Think the mocks, revision, controlled essays and Wednesday alongside an awful cold have got to her. Really worried about her. She looks at rock bottom. I'm Wishing away the next two weeks of exams and results.

itinerant · 08/01/2018 11:30

Mocks here this week too, plus a strangely quiet drive to school whilst he fretted over the other offers (lack of). Poor lad!

Hubble25 · 08/01/2018 12:03

itinerant offers will come - not long 'til Jan 15th although I really hope he hears in next couple of days for peace of mind.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2018 13:21

it's rough for them :( Your poor dd marmite. Is she managing to sleep and eat ok?

After a calm Christmas I can feel tension rising again. We haven't said the O word since a couple of days after interviews. At the time we focused on the number of great candidates and that Imperial and Bristol offer the year abroad. But the Imperial offer is 2x A* and an A which is steep. Fingers crossed for everyone. Don't know if I'll be able to watch on the day!

Hubble25 · 08/01/2018 15:09

Yes good luck to everyone!! Hope as many DC as possible get what they want.

marmiteloversunite · 08/01/2018 16:26

Thanks Kitten. I picked her up at lunchtime so she has been revising at home this afternoon. Luckily she loves her food but normally does a lot more exercise so I think she is missing that outlet. Sleeping is difficult with the cough.

She had a good English lesson this morning and history revision session so is feeling a bit more positive. They have to deal with a lot more pressure than I ever did at that age. Saying that I wasn't Oxford material! HmmGrin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2018 20:25

stupid coughs interfering with sleep Angry in our house it is dh keeping us awake,

dd had a lowered offer come through for her second (perhaps first depending on wednesday) choice come through which gives her a nice breathing space. We've been talking about the positives of the it and there are many. She's a lot more chilled than I am about the whole thing.

I think if the worst comes to the worst, once she has told the 60 gazillion people who now seem to know about her cambridge application and got over dealing with their reaction, she will be happy with her university.

marmiteloversunite · 08/01/2018 20:34

That's great for your DD and brill timing.

I am sure all of the students on here have fab offers for other unis and they will be happy with their eventual places. It is so hard because we have been living in the Oxbridge bubble for so long. Just want to find out and deal with the results. I think the hardest thing is if their friends get offers or if they have to explain to a lot of relatives who have no real understanding of how well they have done to even get interviews!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2018 21:13

agreed marmite. It's the other people that are going to be the issue I think.

I think for my DD at least it's the concept that she's put herself out there as being good enough. She's not a big putter-outer and somehow this is all much more public than gcses or other uni choices or A levels. So if it doesn't work out then there's a level of - what? Cockiness? Over confidence? In reality no of course not. But I know she feels it

Saker · 09/01/2018 08:02

It's surprising as well how much peer pressure there is. A couple of Ds1's friends who have also applied to do music (from different schools) have told him that it would be "wrong" if he was to get an offer from Oxford and then choose the Joint Course instead. And other kids at school are really interested in the outcome, much more than I would have expected.

toomanytolist · 09/01/2018 09:21

I know this has been covered before but are we really sure that all Cambridge applicants will be emailed tomorrow 10th January? The only source for that seems to be the thread on the Student Room. The Jesus website specifically says they will post letters on 12th January and Clare says they will post letters to arrive no earlier than 11th. Neither mention emails at all. And there is no mention of it on the main university website.

Very much want to hear tomorrow though!

Hardwickwhite · 09/01/2018 10:47

I am truly dreading tomorrow. I can't think what to say to her either way, beyond possibly "how do you feel about that?". Peer interest at school will be high, and horrible either way because those still standing, as it were are all of the "it's the family tradition to go to X college" very vocal lot.

I just want it to pass now. If she gets an offer it will be the standard 2xA* plus A, which I feel might be too much pressure for her just now (though probably achievable). If she doesn't, she will feel it is a fail, even though we all know that isn't the full case.

I think I might just sneak in to school with her tomorrow and hold her hand quietly under her desk all day. No one will notice will they? Grin

hellsbells99 · 09/01/2018 11:01

Good luck to all those waiting to hear.
Please bare in mind that Oxbridge isn't the right choice for everyone. If they get an offer, they don't have to accept it if they feel the course or environment isn't right for them. DD met up with 2 friends over Xmas who are in their second year. One says he has hardly been out in Cambridge as the work load is so high and he seemed very down (science course). The other is at Oxford on a non-science course and very happy. Please let your DCs make the final decision.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/01/2018 12:25

Toomany one of the ATs has said on SR that all will email tomorrow, that if students haven't heard by the 11th they should think about contacting their college.

I feel thoroughly sick but can't work out if it is nerves or medication related.

marmiteloversunite · 09/01/2018 13:20

Hardwickwhite have you been reading my mind? I feel exactly the same. Just picked DD up from school and her best friend is saying that of course she will get a place. Supportive but unrealistic bless her. There is no " of course " with this.

We had a chat on the way home. Told her whatever happens I could not be more proud of her and That we will make a plan once we know. Think she just wants to find out and move on.

Good luck everyone for tomorrow!

Risotto301 · 09/01/2018 15:25

Brasenose adm on TSR said that tmr UCAS will be updated as well?!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/01/2018 18:14

oh cripes.

OP posts:
PandaG · 09/01/2018 18:24

Thread on tsr says track will update later - Friday possibly? This is for Cambridge. Am trying not to stress too much, DS came home today and said he has a chemistry test tomorrow that he did not know about!! At least revising for that tonight should keep him occupied! For all those under the weather I hope you sleep tonight. X

Luckye · 09/01/2018 18:39

Hi I’m new to this thread. Just wondering if anyone else’s DD has been asked back for another interview this weekend?

LadyMacnet · 09/01/2018 18:44

Holding on now for tomorrow. I’m jolly proud of my DS whatever the outcome. If they aren’t quite the right fit for Oxbridge they’ll ace it elsewhere Smile

TBH, it uncomplicates things a little if DS’s application is unsuccessful. The standard offer for his course is AAA, which is a big ask on top of all the other stuff they’ve had to do to get to this point.

Anyway, good luck to your DCs for tomorrow. Onwards and upwards!

PandaG · 09/01/2018 18:46

Hi Luckye - welcome. No, my DS hasn't been asked back - I presume your DD has been pooled?

jaguar67 · 09/01/2018 19:27

LadyMacnet 'onwards and upwards' - exactly! Well said!

No idea how we're going to hear - been given instructions that if a letter, not to open (obvs), but to text arrival of.... Wishing I didn't work from home... Then no doubt a barrage of texts asking 'what size?' - which means nothing of course.

Went through this 33 yrs ago & can safely say that the days of pre-Xmas notification, with no set communication date, was (slightly) easier on the nerves!

Sending everyone on here & especially your gutsy, brilliant DCs, every positive wish.
