great to hear Rose! congratssss!

wish for more good news to come for our DCs after the new year!

whiteroseredrose · 20/12/2017 06:59

Thanks Risotto. Have a great Christmas.

Risotto301 · 20/12/2017 07:13

Higher chance that our DCs can be schoolmates now, at Imperial or Oxford!! Hahaha.

What is your DC’s applied subject (pardon my bad memory) and the offer conditions at Imperial?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/12/2017 09:51

That's tough Lobster. I wonder why they take so long.

Excellent news whiterose :)

DS has applied for physics (with year abroad for some). Offers have been A, A, A for Imperial and Durham and A*, A, A for Bristol and Birmingham. How about your DS?

Risotto301 · 21/12/2017 02:45

Rose, good that your DS just has Oxford to wait for now! The conditional offers are pretty tough though.

My DS applied for Materials Science and got AAA offer from Birmingham, Sheffield and Manchester and AAA offer from Imperial. As he had taken 6 papers of Math and achieved A already, he just need to achieve AA for Chem and Phy to meet all the offers! Pretty relaxed.

As my friend's son is aiming for Physics at Imperial too (he will apply next year), may I ask what are your DS' GCSE achieved grades and GCE predicted grades? Please pm me if you don't want to disclose publicly here?

Thanks!

HeyBells · 21/12/2017 12:08

That's good news Rose. DS has also applied for physics. Still waiting to hear from Imperial following interview and from Durham. Only offer at the moment is Birmingham. Just glad at the moment that DS has had mocks and can relax with a much needed break over the Christmas holidays.

bit of a lull in proceedings for us all, how is everyone holding up? managing to put things out of their minds?

OP posts:
voilets · 30/12/2017 18:10

Yes and no. Fun time. But big news pending Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2017 18:58

I think dd has managed to mostly put it out of her mind. Which is good :)
I think nervousness will kick in once she's back at school.

OP posts:
marmiteloversunite · 30/12/2017 19:46

DD seems fine. I keep having waves of anxiety if I think about the tenth too much. I think revision for mocks are keeping DD busy so she isn't thinking about it too much.

voilets · 30/12/2017 19:50

DD is fine partying and studying. The what ifs affect me - will be better to know future options, whichever way it goes. Silly really. What will be, will be.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 30/12/2017 22:23

Yes, not long to go now. I Don't mind at all, I just want her to be happy and know how upset she'll be if she doesn't get an offer.

whiteroseredrose · 30/12/2017 22:55

DS seems to have forgotten all about it. He's since turned 18 so is enjoying going to the pub with friends. Just hoping he still finds time to study!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2017 23:05

I'm glad everyone's doing ok :) sensible kids! I get waves of worry too but stuffing them firmly inside.

OP posts:
Risotto301 · 31/12/2017 12:39

DS told me he has pushed his expevtation for Oxford offer to the lowest, yet he's still been "haunted" by the memory of the interviews!
i did not avoid discussing on it with him but keep reminding him that he shouldn’t be too bothered by the results as he has very good options (Imperial and Manchester) on hand already.

I just tried to relax him with good foods in HK and cooked by me! And we are now in Seoul enjoying the new year holidays!

Hubble25 · 31/12/2017 14:35

Happy New Year to everybody!! Anxiously waiting but LOTS of coursework to do so trying hard to focus.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2017 14:49

Happy New Year everyone! Risotto, I think you are the first of us into 2018?
May it bring a year full of happiness for our dc.

Recent NC, but long time here! Can anyone tell me what date their DC were told for knowing? DD said they were told they would get an email on the 8th, but I've heard someone else say the 10th or 11th? I don't think DD will be going even if she does get an offer, but it would be helpful to know when to expect news.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2017 16:32

Both uni say that the 10th is when everyone will find out. Cambridge is by email with some following up by letter.

OP posts:
Hardwickwhite · 31/12/2017 17:05

Thanks OYBBK. Star Nothing to do but wait I suppose! I'm just trying to decide when to worry - her reaction either way will be unpredictable for a variety of reasons, and I'd like to make sure I am on hand.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 31/12/2017 17:11

DD has unwaveringly said the 11th (Cambridge). Is that not so.

We are unexpectedly doing this on a gap year. DD already has her results. Her approach is much more mature and it is amazing how views change at this stage. I would thoroughly recommend it. She has her other four offers in the bag - only two are in the running - although it's this one she really wants.

Oxford turned her down last year and she was disappointed but it was much more of a punt a year ago. I think she will be much more disappointed this time round. OTH working for her A'Levels was less stressful when there was less riding on it.

toomanytolist · 31/12/2017 19:27

DD's college - Cambridge - has said they will not post 'anything before the 10th' and by post they definitely mean letter. There's been no mention of emails. So we've been assuming the earliest we would hear is the 11th and no guarantee of that.

But I'd love to get it all over on the 10th!

Nice and unequivocal!

toomanytolist · 31/12/2017 19:50

Unequivocal indeed! Can't find anything similarly worded for Cambridge though
