The Cambridge admissions teams on Studentroom have stated that ALL Cambridge colleges have agreed to send an email on 10th January and some may also send out a letter that same day.
Previously they may have been sent on different days by the separate colleges.
Hopefully we will all be breathing a sigh of relief on 10th.

Hollybollybingbong · 31/12/2017 20:07

I hope this link helps, Peterhouse admissions confirms 10th January on this page.

Happy New Year!

toomanytolist · 31/12/2017 20:20

Oooh thanks for that Holly, very happy to have a day less waiting!

kaiserschmarrn · 01/01/2018 09:38

Happy New Year all! DS busy with revision for mocks. We are trying not to think too much about the 10th, though it's getting harder!

kaiserschmarrn · 01/01/2018 10:49

Question: If there is no offer from Oxbridge this month, presumably one can remove that option from the UCAS form and replace it with another?

RaindropsAndSparkles · 01/01/2018 11:27

I don't think you can kaisers. They get five choices, Oxbridge was one of them. If they are rejected by Exeter for example, they can't replace with another.

HesMyLobster · 01/01/2018 12:44

Happy New Year everyone!
2018 is going to be a big one for all of our dcs.

Kaiser I think once the UCAS form is submitted with 5 choices, that's it, there's no changes or swaps allowed.

DD has done a good job of keeping busy and not thinking too much about Decision Day.
The only struggle has been going over and over it with visiting relatives who want to hear all about the interviews etc, and usually concluded with them saying "you'll definitely get in, I know you will" Hmm

I know they think they're being supportive, but poor DD is dreading disappointing them. An extra burden of pressure that she really doesn't need.

I think the pressure of

HesMyLobster · 01/01/2018 12:47

Oops posted too soon!

I think the pressure of other peoples' expectations is the worst part of this whole process for DD.

If we could start again I'd probably advise her to apply secretly and tell nobody (easier said than done I know!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2018 13:23

dd has had that too Lobster. How can they know that? It's so annoying as it's not helpful.

Even though we've tried to keep who knows to a minimum, everyone assumes anyway that she's applied. Bumped into one person yesterday and they asked me how dd is getting on, ,she's doing maths at Oxford isn't she?' 'No you dufus, she's still at sixth form and enjoying that every much.' arghhhh.

DS showing signs of stress. Keeps looking at stats for previous years and getting more depressed!! Anybody else wondering if they will get any sleep on 9th??

kaiserschmarrn · 01/01/2018 15:44

Thanks, raindrops and lobster. Don't know why I thought you could keep adding choices if you got rejections! Wishful thinking, probably.

Risotto301 · 01/01/2018 16:05

Poor Hubble's son.

DS is lucky that he is traveling back to school from HK on Jan 8-9. Probably will have jetlag and could sleep early on Jan 9. Then they will resume school on Jan 10, where his teacher predicted all the Oxbridge applicants would focus on their phone/email box instead of class work! DS is also lucky that his mock is in Feb instead of Jan!

RaindropsAndSparkles · 01/01/2018 16:27

I haven't kept it that secret. I'm immensely proud dd had the gumption to apply, then got an interview, dealt well with the process and if she doesn't get Cambridge can choose between KCL and Durham. Also that she will never be able to say "I might have gone if I'd applied".

I am proud of her as will be her entire family and 6th form too wherever she goes to university.

Hollybollybingbong · 01/01/2018 16:56

Friends have been excited for DD but my family have been somewhat underwhelmed. On my side of the family only my younger DB went to university so they may underestimate how important this is to DD, when older DB did discuss it he suggested she should do fine as it's JUST Cambridge and not Oxford which is so very superior and difficult to get into. Luckily DD just brushed it off.
On DH side of the family his DS won't discuss it at all because 10 years ago her DD didn't get an interview.
I may not have the best perspective because I did expect a matching band and dancers to herald the end of her interview as we walked to dinner and was surprised at how normal the day turned out to be!

goodbyestranger · 01/01/2018 18:00

Holly your sister in law's attitude is petty and self-absorbed but on the whole it does seem to me to be better to keep it all very low key, at least until an offer is in the bag. That's how it's always been in our house anyhow - just another day at the office. I'm always absolutely delighted when they get an offer and I'm always in a state of permanently crossing my fingers that things will turn out well through the interview invite wait and the acceptance/ otherwise wait, but I think (hope) I've perfected the art of seeming cool about it. I'd be quite irritated if other people made a great fuss before an offer came through - too much potential for it causing trouble. The only downside is that I've been so seemingly cool about the process over the years that I may well not have given enough cheers when decisions have finally come!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2018 18:12

Grin at the marching band Holly. I was so relieved to see dd looking happy, if knackered at the end.

dds college seem to think it's a splendid week to hold exams. How they are going to get anything out of their students on offer day is beyond me.

eep. I just realised I'm not drinking at all this month. Do you reckon an exception could be made for the Tues and perhaps Wednesday?

Might be medicinal to drink on the 9th/10th Kitten!

Newchick · 01/01/2018 19:50

Hmm - everything I’ve seen for DS’s choice of college at Cambridge says ‘by mid January’ - if anyone knows anything more precise than that, I’d really appreciate a link!

Newchick · 01/01/2018 19:51

Oops sorry didn’t see last page of thread!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2018 20:49

I spotted a thread on student room that confirms the 10th here

Our family style is being very transparent in everything. DS is lucky as all family and family friends are very supportive and encouraging. Everyone praised him for being able to go this far (all other uni offers including Imperial, and the Oxford interviews), and we all talked him into the mindset that it’s Oxford’s loss if rejecting him!
I deliberately had a celebration dinner with him on the uni offers he attained so far!
Yesterday he told me if Oxford rejects him, he would be sad for ONE DAY! I really admire his EQ!

Hubble25 · 02/01/2018 12:11

Well done Risotto - that is fantastic!! I really admire your approach and your family attitude. :)

Hubble25 · 02/01/2018 12:15

This may be a silly thing to ask but going to ask anyhow. The letter that comes on 10th will almost certainly arrive when DS at college. As it is a late finish for him that day it will lay on my kitchen counter all day with me at home. Just wanted to ask if we expect to see a difference in size or thickness of letter depending on whether it is an offer or rejection??

SofaSofaOnTheFloor · 02/01/2018 12:24

Gosh, this is a stressful read and we're not even in the process yet (next year unless DS changes mind). Good luck to you all Flowers

Risotto301 · 02/01/2018 12:40

hubble, i heard that its surely acceptance if the letter is thick. but it can be acceptance too (or rejection) if the letter is thin, as some colleges would send letter only to notify an offer, detailed info to follow separately.
