OK, I know I'm a bit early, but let the hand-holding begin...

Come and join us if you (and your DC) are about to start the UCAS process in September - applying for a place in 2018.

I've got DS1, who wants to do Computer Science in 2018. Looking at various Russell Group unis and maybe Oxbridge.

OP posts:

Tear, the wait for an offer (any offer, I don't mind, 1 will do) is definitely aging me. Ds1 is good with the process though, he's actually fairly relaxed at the moment. Hopefully he'll hear something soon for my sanity! Wink

teta · 21/01/2018 15:21

Littledrummergirl your ds’ time will come.
Dd got her first offer in March last year and second in April. Some received offers just before their exams . Also there were places in clearing for Glasgow this year. Or a year out is really not such a bad idea. Its been really good for Dd. She’s learning a lot of things that you can’t learn in a slassroom 🙄😁.

teta · 21/01/2018 15:22

slassroom !

bruffin · 21/01/2018 15:29

Dd has her first offer, still 2 interviews to go and waiting on the 2 interviews she has hadalready

VioletCharlotte · 21/01/2018 15:34

DS still waiting to hear. His UCAS form went off at the very beginning of January. He's had a letter from his first choice uni saying they'll be inviting him to audition (performing arts) and to look out for an email, but nothing yet. I'm wondering whether he should give them a call? He's much more relaxed about it than I am!

madnskint · 21/01/2018 17:23

Sorry I boasted about DD’s offer little drummer it was insensitive. I’m positive your DS will hear good news very soon- I believe Surrey are only just beginning to make offers and they are doing so in batch’s so it is just a waiting game.

LynetteScavo · 21/01/2018 19:31

DH has just told me DS received an unconditional offer...on Friday! I know I've had a hectic weekend, but surely either DS or DH would have thought to tell me before now! ShockGrin

It's not the best place for his subject IMO, although it would be a great location for him. He'll wait and see what else he's offered. It looks like the boy who I never thought would make it to high school, and who dropped out of Y12 looks like he might actually make it to Uni. (Where's the relief emoticon?)

Littledrummergirl · 21/01/2018 20:37

Madnskint, there is nothing to apologise for! If you have been feeling anything like me that first offer is more than just an offer. It's knowing that your dc has a chance to fulfill their dreams, that events are back in their control. It's knowing that your support of their application in such a tough subject has been the right thing. It's relief that you don't have to put them back together after their dreams become slightly further away rather than closer.

I haven't read your posts as either boasting or insensitive. I know ds1 time will come and I will want to shout it from the rooftops. I am really pleased for you guys please don't stop talking about your happiness, it really is good to read. Smile

Thank you teta.

madnskint · 21/01/2018 20:56

Thank you littledrummergirl you have expressed exactly what I have been feeling.
Fingers crossed your DS hears soon and you can relax for a bit

bruffin · 23/01/2018 19:40

Dd gone to york for her interview tomorrow, but got a lovely reduced offer from OB tonight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2018 20:42

nice one bruffin. Good luck to her tomorrow!

MajesticWhine · 24/01/2018 20:01

DD now has an offer from Leeds, her top choice, of AAA. Waiting on 3 more unis. She's also slightly surprised us by doing well in her mocks. Hope everyone else is making good progress.

shockthemonkey · 31/01/2018 15:15

Hello there to all the vet-meds posting on here -- madnskint, drummer and teta. Sorry I have only just found you...

I am not a mum (well I am, but this is not about my DC but a "charge" I am advising).

She took a huge confidence knock after being rejected by Cambridge and RVC, both pre-interview... then had a "bad" interview at Surrey, then got told no interview at Notts. She appealed with Notts because the reason they gave was based on a misunderstanding, and she got her interview. She thought that one went well but is waiting to hear...

Surrey must have her on the "maybe" pile as she has not heard and her interview there was in December.

Just to say that I completely sympathise with the grey hairs as I'm feeling it too, even though it's not my own DC.

Best of luck to drummer! I really hope you get good news very soon as the waiting is so hard.

bruffin · 31/01/2018 15:42

Northampton offers
Anyones dc get the goody box today. Strikes me as a bit of desperation to "choise me" and a waste of money

HesMyLobster · 31/01/2018 15:49

Ooh Bruffin whatdya get?!
(Not a Northampton applicant, just nosy! Wink)

prettybird · 31/01/2018 16:09

I'm finding the waiting really difficult Sad. Ds got his unconditional to his least preferred choice as it's his home Uni within a week of applying back at the end of November but still hasn't heard a peep from the other 4 applications bar the acknowledgements of course Shock

2 of those (to Edinburgh) he knows will be really late - but I wasn't expecting Aberdeen and Dundee to take so long. Hmm

Ds seems remarkably relaxed about it but, me, on the other hand....every time I hear ds coming downstairs quickly (which is how he came down with his news about Strathclyde), I wonder if he has some news.....Hmm

bruffin · 31/01/2018 18:07

Emergency socks, tea bag, pen and doodle book.

They are also giving new students a lap top or discount on housing. Not sure if dd is interested. She has 2 offers and a no , still waiting on her interview from cardiff and has an interview tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2018 18:28

what sort of emergency needs socks?

SluttyButty · 31/01/2018 18:46

DD now has all five offers in, one unconditional, one with reduced grades and a financial incentive and the other three AAA conditional.
She’s now completely shut me out and refuses to talk it through with me; I don’t mind admitting I’m a little put out by her attitude Confused

bruffin · 31/01/2018 19:13

badkitten
Pink and yellow stripey in case you cant be bothered to do your washingHmm

HesMyLobster · 31/01/2018 19:49

Hmmm That's not as exciting as I expected. Although no idea what I expected!
I was also going to ask about the socks - don't think I've ever had a sock related emergency!

DD is still waiting for one response - St Andrews. They have said they won't be sending anything out until March, so at least we don't have the suspense to deal with but it's still frustrating when application went in over 4 months ago!
If they give the offer DD is hoping for though it could be her potential insurance choice so she's holding out for them.

HesMyLobster · 31/01/2018 19:50

Bruffin good luck to your DD for tomorrow's interview.

MollyHuaCha · 31/01/2018 20:26

Emergency socks, tea bag, pen and doodle book

We have a houseful of various university pens, note books, phone chargers, tote bags, key rings etc. from open days. But none of the places we visited were giving out socks!

bruffin · 31/01/2018 20:49

Its the waste of miney sending it out that i think.

thanks lobster 5 trips in 3 weeks has worn her out a bit , shes pleased its all over. At least she has seen a bit of the country, she hasnt been to before.
Didnt vist all the nuis because we knew there were interviews

Littledrummergirl · 31/01/2018 20:57

Thanks monkey- still no offer, the wait goes on...
Good luck to your charge as well. It's a tough process of ticking the right boxes, not really a reflection of the candidate.
Loving the emergency socks, seems like a comfort box for studying!
