Oxbridge Applicants for 2017

DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

First "rejection", one of my charges has heard that Pembroke won't be asking her to interview for HSPS (Cambridge).

This may be due to HSPSAA (the exam she took early November) or may be that she did badly in one of her bac papers (though got 16.5 overall so not disastrous either).

Sad for her, but this info may reassure others in that it now looks like rejections arrive at the same time as interview invitations. In other words, if you've not heard, it is not necessarily because offers have gone out already from that college and they're waiting a few days before sending out rejections.

At least that what it looks like at Pembroke.

So pleased for DD. She has an interview at Oxford for Classics. She tells me they interview most applicants for that course, but I'm so happy for her anyway.

Ds1 found out last night that he has an interview for PPE.

Anyone's dcs heard from Somerville (History and ML to be specific!)?
Ds was told he would hear by 28th... the waiting is killing me him.

I know someone who got an interview at Somerville for History today.

A maths interview came through for DS this afternoon. Hurrah!

It's got very cold. I'm quite hoping Oxford will be covered in snow this year as it was in December 2010 - it makes the place especially beautiful (but travel less so!).

Dd received an offer for English interview at Oxford today! She is absolutely bowled over :)

Well done to your DD, doglover, you must both be thrilled. Can I ask which college she applied to? My DS is still waiting to hear from Worcester re English. He's playing it cool for now (on the outside, at least!). Am guessing nothing will happen over the weekend?

MoonandSixpence I know a couple waiting on English who haven't heard. Two of my DDs had e-mail news on a Saturday (New and Magdalen though - no experience of Worcester) so it isn't impossible.

Our dd had her interview offer from Merton College. We all slept well last night for the first time in a few days! The waiting is dreadful - I completely sympathise with those who haven't heard (either way) yet. Having glanced at a couple of threads on TSR, it sounds as though college admissions offices are unlikely to be open this weekend :( Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet.

There is a boy in DD's class waiting on news of an interview for English at Oxford.

She said she's not pleased that she has her interview, and he hasn't yet, but she's pleased that it's not the other way round!

For people still waiting - I checked the college website, which said they would definitely hear 26th (I think it was) and you could contact them if you hadn't heard by then. You may be able to do similar? Anyway, check if you haven't already.

Just nipping back on to say that DS had an email (this morning!) with a date for interview. (English, Oxford). Am so happy for him.

DD has just heard that she won't be getting an interview. She's pretty philosophical about it. Just hope that lasts. Congratulations to everyone who has an interview!

Such stress for the poor kids at this time of year. Seems to me would be som much kinder for all the interviews, rejections to be dished out at the same time. I can't see a downside to that for the colleges and would alleviate so much of the fraughtness !

Oh, bad luck toothgenie. Hope she's got some other offers in the pipeline?

Mine has started looking at some online interview prep stuff, has spent the morning thinking about real-world applications of pure maths esp complex numbers. All good fun.

I've got one interviewing at Oxford and one at Cambridge.

We were both on the 2011 Oxbridge thread I remember the cold & the snow!

(In fact this is the anniversary of the interview call - it came up on FB)
