Hello again then LowDudgeon :)

Yes it hasn't been the same since; that year was completely amazing.

Squirrills · 26/11/2016 15:08

I think I was on the 2012 Oxbridge thread. DS had an interview for Maths.
It's a nail biting time from now through the interview and then to results. FWIW he had a test before the interview and he thought the interview was tough but it was all about Maths, nothing else, which, for a Maths enthusiast is good.
For those who don't get as far as an interview, hopefully there is lots of time to look forward to one of their other choices.

pericat · 26/11/2016 15:25

Good luck to all the dc with interviews.

Ds still waiting to hear (although he is away this weekend and so may have received an email and not told me!!)

Ds has received 4 other offers which he is very pleased about so is very laid back about his application to Oxford. But I just want to know one way or the other!!

DimsieMaitland · 26/11/2016 21:22

DD1 has a interview next week for Cambridge but as yet we don't know which day. They need to tell us soon as we need to book transport etc! DD1 is very chilled. I am a nervous wreck (my interview was exactly 30 years ago and I still cringe at some of my answers. Still got in though. I think they felt sorry for me!)

kua · 26/11/2016 21:26

There is a live Cambridge Q&A on twitter happening right now #cambtweet

BizzyFizzy · 26/11/2016 21:42

Still waiting to hear from Oxford for Economics

GiddyGiddyGoat · 28/11/2016 11:48

Ds2 heard he has an interview this morning! Fingers crossed for anyone still waiting to hear.

Pipkinhartley · 28/11/2016 16:48

DS had email today re invite to interview at Oxford for physics.

humblesims · 29/11/2016 09:11

Is it ok if i just come in here and have a small nervous breakdown in the corner? I'll be quiet, promise. DS still waiting to hear about maths interview (or not) for Oxford. Was expecting invite (or not) on Friday bit still nothing. Trying to be patient is killing me. Him...not so much. Confused

user1469682920 · 29/11/2016 09:15

Can I join in too - me too humble sins. Anyone else waiting for Cambridge interview news

roundandroundthehouses · 29/11/2016 09:18

Dd1 is also still waiting for her probable rejection (Physics, Worcester). She just wants to get it over with now.

humblesims · 29/11/2016 10:00

I know that some invites went out for his course from his college (Christ Church) yesterday so I am thinking he may get a rejection today. I feel the same roundabout I just want (him) to know so we can get on with out lives!

pericat · 29/11/2016 11:44

Ds received his rejection email late yesterday afternoon (Maths, Exeter).

Now focusing on whether to make Warwick or Bristol his first choice for MMaths.

Has anyone experience of either?

humblesims · 29/11/2016 13:00

:( Rejection email recieved. He's ggoing to be gutted. Ah well. He's got offers from Bristol and Warwick also pericat as well as Southampton but dont know much about either. Still waiting for Imperial.

Squirrills · 29/11/2016 13:13

pericat I have a DC at Warwick doing Maths.
It was his insurance as he missed the STEP grade for his Cambridge offer. He had a lower offer from Durham but preferred both the course and the uni at Warwick.
No knowledge of Bristol.
If they have other offers there is usually an "offer holders day" in the spring. This allows them to visit the uni again before making a decision. Both of my DC went to offer days and viewed both the universities and the courses in a different light when there was a very real prospect of spending four years there. Both made a different choice than they might have without this visit.

roundandroundthehouses · 29/11/2016 13:14

Ah, humblesims, I hope he's able to move on and look forward to what I'm sure will be excellent prospects elsewhere.

AlwaysTeaTime · 29/11/2016 13:41

My DD just got an interview for Medicine at Oxford! I'm so proud of her- she thought she had messed up her BMAT too much to get one. Even if she doesn't get in at least she's got this far. Good luck to anyone whose DC are waiting to hear

user1469682920 · 29/11/2016 14:23

Interview at Fitzwilliam for DD. Pleased and relieved. She emailed asking when the final date was for decisions and got a response by return so the initial invitation may have gone astray ? Commiserations for those not getting good news and best wishes to those still to hear. And thanks for these threads, really helpful and encouraging to read !!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 29/11/2016 19:03

Ds1 is in his second year at Fitz - and v happy there. Good luck to her for the i/v.

user1469682920 · 29/11/2016 19:09

That's kind, thank you !

deelishiS0 · 29/11/2016 20:40

Ds1 invited to keble oxford physics yay

user7214743615 · 29/11/2016 21:52

Warwick maths is considerably stronger than Bristol maths. Warwick is considered to be up there in the same group as Oxbridge and Imperial. Bristol belongs to the next tier, consisting of Bath plus many of the RG universities (Exeter, Southampton, KCL etc). But this difference would really only matter for those carrying on after their degree and doing Masters, PhD etc. Both Bristol and Warwick maths would be highly valued by employers.

user1480587488 · 01/12/2016 16:13

To anyone with DC who has an Oxbridge interview looming. One thing DC said to me last year was that quite a lot of people interviewed for Oxbridge (DC was from ordinary Comp) were put off by the interviewers poker face. So, top tip, don't let that phase your DC :)

DapperDame · 01/12/2016 16:21

Peri, I also have a dc at Warwick doing maths. (2nd year now). He loves the course and the social life and feels he landed on his feet.

RhodaBull · 01/12/2016 18:39

Ds was interviewed by two grumpy women who didn't offer up anything. Ds said it was really uncomfortable as his voice trailed off into the ether as they just sat there, saying nothing after he gave each answer. This was his second interview - at least in the first the interviewer shouted at him!
