DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

Chaos. Flowers

goodbyestranger · 22/11/2016 13:17

For those waiting for history which should be about to start coming through, can I just say DS waited a full week after other two other MN DCs had heard last year, so no news doesn't mean bad news even in extreme cases like that.

RhodaBull · 22/11/2016 14:11

gulp. I don't think I could stand the strain of waiting another week. Ds remains silent on the whole matter.

goodbyestranger · 22/11/2016 14:22

I was definitely tense Rhoda but to be fair the invite was all the better when it finally came!

AmazingDisgrace · 22/11/2016 14:38

Flowers Chaos. So sorry for you loss. We lost my Mum last year just before DD found out she'd got her place at QMUL.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 22/11/2016 15:35

Thanks all for kind words and flowers.

It's appreciated.

Hugs to those in similar boats.

LittleHoHum · 22/11/2016 15:43

In a similar boat here Chaos. It is really awful. Sad

Flowers to you.

HamletsSister · 22/11/2016 18:36

History here......still waiting. Some Oxford colleges seem to have told candidates...not DS's choice.

Chaos. Sorry about your Mum. It is always hardest when there are events or news you would have shared. My Mum died in March and was a fierce boat race supporter on the wrong side for DS. She would have giggled with joy at him joining the other tea.

Assuming he gets any further.

So sorry to hear about your mum, Chaos. Well done to your DD, though. I'm sure she'll do your mum proud. Flowers

I've just heard that DD1 has been invited for an interview for English at Cambridge. I'm so pleased for her. Now she's manically planning to reread all the books she's mentioned in her PS, and the subsequent reading list she has to send.

HamletsSister · 23/11/2016 17:24

DS got an interview!!!!!

Am weeping a bit. Only the 2nd person ever from his school and in History which has a lot of applicants. Still a bit of a long shot, but he has been talking non-stop since infancy so will enjoy the chance to chat to other History nerds.

So pleased. Am struggling a lot with depression and stress at the moment (no reason, just age / bad genes) so I am doing a little happy dance for once.

Stage 2. More shredded nerves (mine). He is cool as anything about it all, and only 16.

Excellent! I'm so glad you've got something to lift your spirits a bit.Flowers

RhodaBull · 23/11/2016 17:58

Well done, MiniHamlet!

Ds's college still silent. Perhaps they didn't like any of the applicants?!

toothgenie · 23/11/2016 18:21

Has anyone heard from Wadham?

GeorgeTheThird · 23/11/2016 18:44

Still waiting. I made the mistake of mentioning it at dinner and got my head bitten off.

toothgenie · 23/11/2016 19:01

Me too!!! I've managed to not ask her for 3 days! It's been very difficult! Wink

jessicapearson · 23/11/2016 21:54

Toothgenie - dd got an email on Monday night from Wadham asking her for an interview on the 7th.

toothgenie · 23/11/2016 22:08

Thanks Jessica,can I ask what subject ?

jessicapearson · 23/11/2016 22:11

Yes Biology. Hope your dc hears soon.

toothgenie · 23/11/2016 22:36

Fingers crossed for your daughter. Smile

lonelyplanetmum · 24/11/2016 10:54

Great wisdom of Mumset or perhaps some-one working in admissions...Does anyone know why some Oxford applicants are invited for two days and others for three days (for the same subject)? On the website it say " some candidates may be required to report on Monday 12 December and others on 13 December? Out of my depth!

horsemadmom · 24/11/2016 10:57

Candidates with morning interviews arrive the day before. Cuts down on stress for all concerned.

goodbyestranger · 24/11/2016 11:24

Or - some colleges interview more applicants: both my DSs had to arrive a day early because the college had a surplus of decent applicants and wanted to interview more than usual. Well, that's what they were told at the time and the college also wrote that in a subsequent letter to their headteacher so I assume it's correct.

PennyForum · 24/11/2016 12:05

DS has an interview for Maths at Cambridge

lonelyplanetmum · 24/11/2016 12:26

Thank you great wisdom of MN!

Carriemac · 24/11/2016 12:26

That's great penny
