DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

Goodbye he's a Historian. Also hear very good things about Theology, Geography and Classics in particular - I'm less well acquainted with STEM subjects but Durham always do well in any of the assessments based on undergraduate teaching.

RhodaBull · 12/01/2017 15:05

Virtual glove punch, Chaos. I think I'll have to go and have a seance to tell my mum and dad about ds!! You can't really say anything to real life people as that would be dreadfully boastful. I'll just sit here grinning to myself!

GetAHaircutCarl · 12/01/2017 15:42

Well I've heard for both my two - one for Oxford and one for Cambridge. Both got offers.

Whether either of them will get their grades and/or end up going is anyone's guess!

HardcoreLadyType · 12/01/2017 16:05

Thank you Hoccleve. DD has currently clammed up. She may be receptive to looking at the college as you say, but I don't know.

Her BF is at another college, and maybe he knows some people from this one that she can meet.

I think it looks lovely. Big gardens, bright sunny accommodation. I think she would like it, if she gave it a chance.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/01/2017 16:06

So....my DD's grasp of probabalistic predictions turns out to be excellent. The lack of letter was because Murray Edwards emails. She rang from her bus home having just got it.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/01/2017 16:14

Just realised I've morphed back into being Errol rather than TheMortificadosDragon, if anyone was wondering where I'd sprung from.

Hardcore, looks like our DDs are in a similar boat then - feel free to PM if you want to mull over in more detail than you want to do on the public thread? They don't have to decide anything immediately, time to maybe visit, ask more questions - both of Cambridge and of their other options.

ChopsticksandChilliCrab · 12/01/2017 16:14

Rejection for DD from Teddy Hall. Letter still hadn't arrived today so she phoned and they emailed her. She is ok about it as she has an offer from Durham for a course that, to be honest, suits her better. She enjoyed going for the interview though and thought everyone she met at Oxford was very nice. She is glad she applied, despite the outcome.

RhodaBull · 12/01/2017 16:20

Never mind, Teddy Hall is full of "poshos" anyway. Even the posho (with magnificent floppy hair) who showed us round said it was a bit posh, so it must be super-posh. Ds ran a mile when he read they have famous food fights Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 12/01/2017 16:29

Sensible girl, Chopsticks.

DD just called again with the details of the offer. It is what she expected - she was telling me last night it's what she'd heard they do for engineering (maybe varies if you're doing more/different subjects) ... the offer is AAA but the A have to be in Physics and FM so in effect that's likely to mean 3A.

Hoccleve · 12/01/2017 17:27

Hardcore my DD did a taster day there and loved it . It has a really warm and friendly vibe, is nice accomodation and everyone she met was lovely. Also not that far out, very near to the backs and the main drag. But Bristol fab too...

BasiliskStare · 12/01/2017 18:40

Congratulations Rhoda , I remember DS from last time (when my Ds did the thing, All it took was not having the two grumpy women obviously Wink

TheCheeseAlarm · 12/01/2017 18:47

Offer for Maths for a delighted DS here. It's his birthday tomorrow so it's an excellent present.

Congratulations to all those successful DCs. Commiserations to those who did not get what they wanted.

HamletsSister · 12/01/2017 19:27

He is in!!!! Oxford History. Needs AAB (Scottish Advanced Highers) and they have offered him a deferred place which he didn't apply for but he is very young so no problem with that.

Phew!!!!

Hoccleve · 12/01/2017 20:03

Congrats to your DS Hamlet - he is obvs exceptional, great offer and deferred entry too! The HAT this year was also a nightmare apparently so bravo all round.

OrlandaFuriosa · 12/01/2017 20:06

DS has an offer from Downing, after his school f'd up royally last year ( put in unagreed wrong predictions )and had to take a gap year. Joy unconfined here.

Commiserations to others and to remember few people ask you later which university you attended.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/01/2017 20:11

More congratulations! The deferred year may be a good thing, hamlets, is he already planning a gap year?

Hoccleve - I didnt think hardcore said where her DD had been offered. Confused did you mean mine with 'Medwards' as she is now referring to it increasingly fondly?Grin

HamletsSister · 12/01/2017 20:23

He wasn't but is now. Odd situation as his 2nd choice will be unconditional and for straight away so he will have to have plans, but nothing concrete in case it all goes wrong.

MrsBartlet · 12/01/2017 20:37

@WorkingItOutAsIGo - dd is a second year at Emma so happy to help if you have any questions. Feel free to pm me.

HardcoreLadyType · 12/01/2017 21:04

DD's offer is from Churchill, Erroll. I'm not really sure why she's taken against it so much, but she's been invited to a taster day, so I said she should go and have a look, and then decide. The same results needed as for your DD, although not the same subjects!

It sounds like your DD is coming round to the idea of "Medwards". Sue Perkins went there, if that's a plus for her?

She's also quite keen on doing an art foundation course, and applying next year, but we're not sure if they hold it against you if you turn down an offer and reapply to the same course.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 12/01/2017 21:21

I went to an open day there accompanying ds1 - it was nice if not most people's idea of a Cambridge College. She should definitely go and look before deciding - what does she have to lose?! Ds1 didn't apply there in the end but has ended up at another less traditional college and loves it there.

HamIn · 12/01/2017 21:29

DS didn't get an offer from cambridge. He is really gutted. Any ideas of what I could say that could help him get through this?

GiddyGiddyGoat · 12/01/2017 21:31

Sorry Hamin, it must be horribly disappointing after such a lengthy and demanding process. Does he have other offers?

Hedgehogparty · 12/01/2017 21:46

Hamin, , my DS didn't even get an interview last year.
He worked hard and did well at A levels, found some relevant work experience and has been accepted this year.
Would your Ds consider doing that?

Leedsmum27 · 12/01/2017 21:49

Hardcore

My DS is at Churchill - just sent you a PM . Feel free to ask anything that might help but just wanted to say how happy he is there.
