DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

Very well done Giddy and Itchy.

Letter just arrived, but it was a rejection.

shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 14:15

Always, great news! My DS is still waiting to hear from Catz. How did your offer come in? email???

Resigned to getting a rejection now... rehearsing the consolation speech in my head

AlwaysTeaTime · 11/01/2017 14:57

She had an email which said that she would also be getting a letter, shock. Good luck to your DS!

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 15:02

Well done to your DD, Always!

My heart skipped a beat, though, because there is a Catz at Cambridge as well, and I thought Cambridge offers were coming out! Still at least a day to go, though...

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 15:02

Still nothing here..

Anyone hear about Hertford? Sent every rejection e-mail to every rejected candidate so they had a full list of 80 letters of all those rejected.

Oops!

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 15:03

Well done all those who have had good news. And well done all those that haven't because it is bloody hard getting this far.

OP posts:
shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 15:08

Silly me, I was talking about Cambridge, Hardcore.

I didn't know there was a Catz at the other place.

I can breathe a bit more now... I had also understood tomorrow for Cambridge/Catz/overseas applicants somehow

shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 15:09

I must calm down.

shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 15:10

Oh dear for Hertford! Big-time woopsie there

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 15:13

Oh, shock, I didn't know, either, and had to google it. Catz at Cambridge was one of DD's "shortlist".

TheMortificadosDragon · 11/01/2017 15:18

Congratulations and commiserations. I do hope no-one with a rejection is too disconsolate.

We are under strict instruction not to open DD's letter when it arrives tomorrow or Friday - DH has volunteered to take it to her school for break/lunchtime Hmm (he does need to stock up with good coffee from the nearby shop too, tbf, otherwise I'd be handing him a grip). He knows he's being a bit daft - especially as we're honestly not sure that EEE at southampton wouldn't be better.

Roastchesnutlatte · 11/01/2017 16:21

Well done all those with Oxford offers.
Dds best friend missed out but two of her other friends had offers.
It's hard to know what to do with letters isn't it, have offered to drive it into school just to put her out of her misery. Her college doesn't email uk applicants so it's letter or nothing.

LadyPeterWimsey · 11/01/2017 16:28

I'm getting flashbacks to last year, when - completely coincidentally, I promise - I was going to DS's school anyway at lunchtime, and so brought the letter with me, having restrained myself from steaming it open. He took it, said thanks and walked off, so I was still in agony waiting until he phoned me a little later. Fortunately it was an offer, albeit an uncharacteristically high one, which he JUST made.

So lots of empathy here, and best wishes for all your DC.

Carriemac · 11/01/2017 17:25

Oxford offer for DD. 3 As so hopefully doable .so relieved

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 17:27

Well done. Still nothing here.

OP posts:
GiddyGiddyGoat · 11/01/2017 17:53

What college Hamlet? have you looked on the TSR thread where people are posting about offers received and whether post / email? Very hard for your dc to still be waiting when they expect to hear today.

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 18:00

DS has found out, finally, from one or two others that his college seems to use the post, not e-mail. There was nothing today so we now wait for about 5.30pm tomorrow, our next post. We are in the middle of some fairly horrendous weather, travel disruption etc, so it could be Friday. By then, I will have strangled someone. DS is refusing to e-mail and ask!!' Agh!

Pleased to see that (apart from the sciences?) Oxford has held its offers at 3As. The A* can be so easy to miss, especially in humanity subjects, so it would be counter productive to specify that in the offer when the candidates have already jumped through the hoops of entrance exam and interview.

Good luck to everyone still waiting, congratulations to the successes, commiserations to the ones who got a no. I've lived vicariously through both scenarios with my DC...the disappointment can be crushing at first because of the huge investment required during the Oxbridge application process, but it's not just a platitude to say that your DCs will go on to find the right place for them. DS who didn't get in to Oxford is, on some measures, far more "successful" in the work place than DD1 who did go. She however thrived on the short sharp concentrated workload of Oxford, and the (usually constructive) criticism of the tutorials, while he did well with more self study and less one to one pressure at Durham. DD2 meanwhile is doing a course at a London Uni that is just not offered at Oxbridge...

It's undoubtedly a big big thing though to go to either Oxford or Cambridge, so congratulations to the successes. But the others will get over their disappointment...or if they don't, and feedback is good, they can always apply again. In fact, DD1 did this and was successful on her second attempt post A levels (albeit with less stellar A2 grades than she had been predicted (there was even a B in the mix!) and apparently a lower aptitude exam performance) to a "bigger, more popular" college presumably because she could demonstrate more maturity and a greater depth of learning in her subject.

doglover · 11/01/2017 19:00

She's got an offer!! AAA for English at Merton. Beyond delighted!

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 19:39

Yay!!!! Well done. We have stood down for the night so good to hear others are having success.

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 11/01/2017 20:35

DD got a letter. With regret. She's writing a list of all the non academic things she's good at.

ByTheSea · 11/01/2017 21:26

DD didn't receive a letter yet. Not happy with our post.

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 22:15

DS has a friend waiting, also remote (Norfolk, not Scotland) and both of them are cursing the post.

OP posts:
shockthemonkey · 12/01/2017 07:20

Hang on in there for everyone still waiting (me included!).

Commiserations for the rejections... I know it's easy to say before we hear from Cambridge but for me, the Durham course is much more suited to my DS as it has a big IR element to it. So a VERY TINY part of me will be OK with a rejection today because I know he'd go for Cambridge if he had the choice.

Yet is stings just a bit to hear "no thanks".

Congratulations to everyone who got good news yesterday!

Cambridge today, I think! Deep breaths.
