DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

I don't know. She had assumed a long wait for a letter. Poor friend. I gave her the full, lots of other options, talk over lunch yesterday. Her DD was happy about her Imperial offer, but Oxford offers that wider University experience, and she is delighted.

jessicapearson · 11/01/2017 09:27

DD got rejected, by email. She has 3 other offers and is still waiting to hear from Edinburgh, who have said it will be after 15 Jan.

Good luck to all the other DC waiting.

hey jessicapearson - three other offers is FANTASTIC as you well know... and congratulations. the possibility of Edinburgh sounds wonderful.

best of luck to everyone... as my DH keeps reminding me - it's the PROCESS not the actual result at this point.

HamletsSister · 11/01/2017 09:45

Nothing yet but DS has several (online, but met at interview) friends who have heard, all rejections. But, playing the odds, most are likely to be rejections. I think there are 2 or 3 rejections for every acceptance, depending on the course (and after interview).

Thanks Annoyed.

AnnoyedBeyondBelief · 11/01/2017 09:54

yes HamletsSister -- agreed. And could we please just please remember that even getting an Oxbridge INTERVIEW is an achievement. What's more, a 1st from any good uni will go a long way.

RhodaBull · 11/01/2017 10:03

Getting rejected is a blow, however many times people tell themselves the odds, because the whole process is such an investment . It's not just chucking another name down on the UCAS form, it's the "stand out" personal statement, the admission tests, the waiting for the interview, the getting the interview, the suffering the interview(s), the post mortems on the interviews, the waiting again... No wonder candidates are a nervous wreck at this point! (Even if no one in the house is mentioning anything at all ...)

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 11/01/2017 10:51

Good luck to all Oxford hopefuls today - nerve wracking times. I'll be feeling the pain tomorrow though DD not expecting good news as she felt the interview didn't go as well as she would hope.

It feels like such a tough rejection as they work so hard for it but truly it isn't life changing in the grand scheme of things - for example, eldest DC now in final year at Cambridge and looking at jobs, and lost out on the job he most wanted. Two good friends of his, who were both rejected by Oxbridge and went elsewhere, where they had great success and lots of fun, were both successful at getting the same job. It's swings and roundabouts... and that is what I shall be telling myself tomorrow most firmly!

doglover · 11/01/2017 10:51

Nothing here yet ...........

MrsBernardBlack · 11/01/2017 11:19

Have heard nothing from DS, but have no idea if it's because he hasn't heard yet, or he has had a rejection and is still feeling a bit down about it. (Screams silently to self).

OhTheRoses · 11/01/2017 11:25

No news here either x

GiddyGiddyGoat · 11/01/2017 11:26

YAY! Good news for ds2 this morning - email just before 9am.
Best wishes to all still waiting and to anyone who's dc didn't get the news they hoped for.

shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 11:27

Nothing here yet, but kind of telling myself it will be tomorrow.

Not succeeding in convincing myself though

shockthemonkey · 11/01/2017 11:27

Cross-posted with Giddy, congratulations to your DS2

cookerybookaddict · 11/01/2017 12:27

Dd received her email at 8.15 this morning. She has a conditional offer to read History. Best of luck to everyone still waiting, and commiserations to anyone who didn't get the news they wanted.

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 12:29

Brilliant news, cookery!

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 12:29

And Giddy!

OhTheRoses · 11/01/2017 12:39

Do we think the emails, if it's coming by email, are probably through now?

Hoccleve · 11/01/2017 13:02

My daughter's email didn't come through last year until mid afternoon - and her friend got her email about an hour later, same subject and same college, so no rhyme or reason I fear! Best wishes to you and your DC.

helpimitchy · 11/01/2017 13:15

Ds1 has an offer from oxford. They want three As.

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 13:20

Someone I spoke to said her DD was told
to expect an email between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, otherwise it was a "no"!

I don't know which college it was. Also, she is a bit of a drama queen, and has told me somewhat suspect information before now.

DD1 knows someone who got another person's letter last year, (both got in, luckily) so admin mistakes do happen. I wouldn't assume a "no" unless you actually receive a communication from the college.

HardcoreLadyType · 11/01/2017 13:21

Well done to your DS, itchy.

Hoccleve · 11/01/2017 14:00

Both DD's and her friend's were a yes, DD got her email at about 2:45, friend about 4:15. Hold hard Smile

AlwaysTeaTime · 11/01/2017 14:02

DD got an offer of A*AA to St Cats for Medicine!
