My DS will be starting his As levels next year. He is a capable mathematician and highly motivated.
I would really appreciate your advice on the best University for him to study Maths and what are the differences between the courses from one University to another.
Thank you very much in advance Smile

self teaching with a good book, is easier than being taught by a poor teacher.Lots of students I know have taught themselves extra modules.I don't think it is that unusual tbh.
The impression we got is that primarily they are interested in 2 things. How quickly and easily candidates can pick up and use and extend their thinking on unfamiliar material and secondly their drive and interest in the subject..

My Dd has always been a very capable mathematician and has just finished her 2nd year at Birmingham. She loves it and loves Birmingham university as well with its beautiful campus. She taught herself Further Maths because they couldn't fit her into the class at school and got an A* but she has still found the maths hard and very different to A level. They give her lots of support via PhD students and her personal tutor who she has quite a few sessions with. They do revision lectures and overall I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of support she gets - I don't think I had very much at all when I was at university! She looked at Warwick but decided that it was too much for her to do Step at the same time as teaching herself FM AS and A2 in one year and I don't think she has looked back actually. She has been very pleased with her choice.
