I still have 2 weeks to go before I start, glad its going well, cant wait to get stuck into it although not looking forward to the knackered bit (although I already am that). I start at 9.30 on the first day which will give me time to drop the kids at school and catch a tram in to uni, am hoping that is the start time for everyday as that would be really nice. How long do you have till your first placement and wht is your first placement? I have 7 weeks in uni and my first placement is community.

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 16/10/2014 12:46

I know is an old thread and you are actually starting your degrees now (good luck!!) but Ive just been offered an interview at Brighton uni for a child nursing degree.

I tried started a thread like this a few days ago but seems Im the only one so hope you don't mind me posting here!

I need to buy a big pad of paper and start brushing up on my maths and revise the 6 C's and Francis report.

Oh my goodness, how exciting!!!!!!

LumpenproleatariatAndProud It's so exciting and goes so quickly, I had my interview in February and knew within 3 days that I had a conditional offer but had to wait until GCSE results day for confirmation which seemed decades!

I'm now in week 5 and loving every minute, we pick up our uniforms in a fortnight ready to start placement the week after, I'm very lucky that my first (and second placement) are in the closest hospital less than 30 minutes from me. The commute will be amazing compared to the almost two hours that it takes to university each morning.

Dita My first placement is in the hospital in the day surgery centre, I'm really lucky as I have a 2 week taster placement next month and then we get a longer placement in the new year and I am being sent back to the same place, I only know in advance as we have to have PPE clearance done, the other students won't know where they are going until closer to the time. I rang and introduced myself today and had a ince chat on the phone with the co-ordinator, feeling excited now rather than nervous. Just got to go and buy my shoes.

Lumpen, very exciting you have a nerve wracking few months ahead of you. Feel free to twitter your nerves at us, we understand.

I am loving the course so far, only a week and a half in but it is so interesting, had lectures on parisitology and microbiology which were gross but so interesting. I am finding it a bit weird a lot of our study is self directed and people keep saying masters level whic is scariing the pants out of me. Got measured for uniform on first day and had injections on the second day. I have been able to drop the kids in school in the morning and mostly go back in time to do a bit of study and pick the girls up from childminder at a reasonable time. They seem to be happy having me around a bit more. Quite scary our first assisgnment is 6000 words. eekk.

ThePortlyPinUp · 29/10/2014 20:45

Our first was only 600 words to check our writing ability and then the next written one is only 3000, have had some A&P online ones to do plus lots of directed study and EBL group work. Realy enjoying it though, especially the clinical skills practical stuff. I'm sure the uni now have more of my blood than I do though, so many blood tests and injections Grin

Good luck lump! I just started a child nursing degree. Loving it so far. Got my uniform last week.

Focus on communication through play ! That's what they are big on and being an advocate for the child and or the family. Family centred care too :)

Mammicar · 06/12/2014 10:36

Hope everyone else is doing ok. I am completely knackered! Had all our essays for this year. First is group presentation and 1500 report then I have a 3000 essay due in 12th jan then 4000 reflection due in May!

Should find out my placement on Monday too Grin

Mammicar · 06/12/2014 19:07

Found out today! Sneaky! I got children's ward :)

ditavonteesed · 15/01/2015 18:55

hey, hope those placements are going well, loving mine, got community. Been writing a 6000 reflective essay which I think is about done, need to get dh to check for grammer and silly spelling mistakes. Cant believe how quickly its going. This time last year we were all getting ready for interviews.

Mammicar · 14/03/2015 21:55

I am knackered! But I LOVE my placement! Just finished writing a 4000 word reflection. I have Medicate exam on 6th May and then portfolio hand in and another reflection in July and that's it for the first year!

Amazed at how quick it's gone! I have learnt so much Grin
