Results Day and UCAS

MotherOfGirls · 06/08/2013 12:03

Eldest DD is expecting A level results on 15th so this is my first experience of UCAS. She seems to think her results will go to UCAS before they are emailed to her by her school, and so she will find out if she has made her offer by checking her UCAS account. She also thinks this happens at midnight. Can anyone confirm any of this, please?

Well done to all those who've got into unisSmile

twisty I'd advise you're DS's friend to go to school and ask if someone who knows her in a senior position to phone Bristol. They may take into account her awful circumstances. I know someone who's suffered a terrible bereavement during her A levels. The school informed the uni and they let her into her first choice despite not getting the grades.

Congratulations to all. DS has got into Nottingham, despite missing an A*. The nice lady said they were happy to accept him with 3As. An email came through just after midnight, but he hadn't opened it. Very stressful, but a good result in the end. Good luck to anyone still waiting to have confirmation.

Can anyone help my DNeice please.

She saw on line this morning that she had got a confirmed place from her 2nd choice uni. She was delighted as she had decided she'd rather go there anyway. However she couldn't accept the place as her first choice haven't updated yet.

She phoned her first choice and they've said she will find out this evening if they've given her a place, as they havent finished going through all the gap year students yetConfused Angry But she doesn't want to go there now! Is there anything she can do?

ExcuseTypos - the Student Room is a really good place for advice on this.

I think there may be a difference between your firm rejecting you, so your insurance can pick you up, and your firm releasing you back into Clearing.

So happy. DD2 is off to Exeter, her first choice. Along with her lifelong best friend - not at all planned, they just both fancied it. They started at nursery school together at 2.5, schooled at opposite ends of the country and now finishing off together! Very proud Mama here, and she'll be p the road from DD1 who's at Bristol.

On the other side of this...just hearing if we got as many students as we wanted this year....apparently only a few under but we might steal some upgrading students with higher than expected marks!

Dropped a grade here but still accepted by first choice. Still quivering slightly. There must be an easier way of doing this!

Exeter is great- 2 DDs have gone there. Applications have jumped massively this year, so anyone getting in is very lucky!

Having spent yesterday stressing, all night awake and most of this morning feeling sick both DT's have got into their 2nd choice universities. They're disappointed not to have got 1st choice, but actually I think it will work ok - both courses are exactly the same as their 1st choice.

Now having just worked out that it will cost £43k for each of them in total over the 3/4 years I've started feeling sick again!

I can't believe how awful this process is, and have so much sympathy for those going through clearing (my niece) - good luck to everyone.

DS didn't apply anywhere last year, the course he wanted to do was discontinued at the uni he wanted to go to, which threw him so he thought he would do a gap year working at a school and apply next year as he would know his grades. But the school decided they couldn't afford him, so he sent in all his details only a few weeks ago. That made him far more organised as to where he wanted to apply, so once he got his grades this morning he went through clearing and already has several offers. The grades weren't as good as he had hoped but I am just so relieved that anyone wants him at all, let alone him having a choice! In a way I think this has been less stressful, we haven't had all the uni tours and interviews and offers process to go through that I had with DD.
Just the accommodation to sort now, then... No matter what he ends up with it will soon turn into a bearpit anyway.

All sorted. DS missed his grades but was offered an alternative choice at his firm Uni. He declined this and has now has a confirmed place at his insurance.
It was quite confusing but we got there in the end and he is delighted.

There is a little uncertainty with his accommodation but it should be fine. He is going to Sheffield and all their accommodation seems nice.

I need a glass of wine now.

It seems some Uni's are offering quite odd alternative courses. My friends son was offered one in a different faculty. Confused

Letsface Interested to hear of someone else on Ds's course. He can't wait to get there now and meet everyone.
