Morning all

Oh Alice what a horrid early start, definately try & get a nap in today!

Bella sounds hard work with DS1, it must be so frustrating knowing he has huge potential but just isn't applying himself. Is there something you could do to spur him on? Some kind of reward, I know that hard work shouldn't necessarily be rewarded as they should just do it but maybe there's something that could help to push him? I don't know, I could very well be talking out of my arse

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank!! So lovely to see you, sorry you've had a papweek but well done on thr weight loss so far, slowly is good as it stays off that way!

Crispy DH would be so jealous, he wants to go to Le Mans for the 24 hour thingy-bob I'm hoping to suprise him with tickets next year but it's going to take some planning and the help of FIL as I dont know what Im talking about

Right I best get my bum in gear as I'm off out this morning with DS, hope the weather holds it's all grey & overcast though I like how cool & breezy it is

Have a good day everyone, see you later

Lizzylou · 07/07/2010 07:46

Bella, I think that most teens, prob especially boys (judging by my brothers) go through this. You have to find some way of maybe incentivising him, or showing him how important other subjects are. Does he want to go on to further study/Uni? Because if he does then he'll need the "boring" subjects as well. Your DH works hard and provides you with a great standard of living (as do you, I am thinking of a male role model for him iyswim), perhaps impress that upon him a bit more, get him to earn his luxuries (sounds like you've started that anyway). My Dad, ummm, was not such a great role model for my brothers, bless him.
At least he is still "up there" with regard to his results so you have the chance to nip this in the bud, his teachers/school sound very good and switched on. They could have just let him coast through the rest of school until it was too late.

Alice, definitely get yourself a nap today! Will post the DVDs this afternoon, so hang on for a while longer!

MrsMcGlumBum · 07/07/2010 07:54

Morning.

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/07/2010 08:21

Norma, DH is at the historic 24hr as his friend is racing. If it is this one that MrKnockers is interested in then let me know and i can probably give you some ideas on how to secure tickets

Thanks for the warm teapot BTW

Should be off to preschool in a moment but i feel truly crappola. No energy but am hoping a walk in the fresh air will perk me up for the day

Happy Wednesday all

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 08:33

Morning. Happy Wednesday to you too

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/07/2010 08:34

Morning all.

DD was up again in the night for about an hour so am pooped today, meant to be gong over to a friends this afternoonn but tired and still full of cold and cough so may pass on that one.

Today is very exciting I need to iron everysingle sheet etc that we own as well as going to buy some pond plants.

Hi Yank, well done on the weight loss, I have my weigh in tonight and am hopeful but really need to stop yo yoing.

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 08:45

So... off to work to see what I missed at this meeting last night. I wonder if I got signed up for anything unreasonable (or even physically impossible)?

DreamsInBinary · 07/07/2010 08:50

Morning all

I ate two enormous a yum-yum yesterday, and felt such guilt. Am going to hide it from WW and Lord Ford - that way it doesn't count, right..?

Jaq - how lovely to see you back [kisses]

DS was up last night again with a headache. He's only 4, poor mite.

DreamsInBinary · 07/07/2010 09:02

Oh, I nearly forgot!

I walked past some huge promotional posters yesterday lunchtime and staring back at me was Wasting's DH's band

I was very excited

hellsbelles · 07/07/2010 09:39

DIB - that's brilliant...what are they called (or is that too much info for the thread?)

Morning all, I'm at work but couldn't resist Sazz's offer of some wine (yes yes I know it was last night but I'll have some now thanks!). Lucky DH at Le Mans- what a brilliant thing to do.

Bitter - you were so right about PB. I admit it took me till about episode 3 (or whenever the first riot took place) to really get into it...but it's been worth it.

Bella- that's my plan with DS and of course DD will be a spinster . Having said that, Lizzy speaks wise words as always. I was constantly getting those kind of reports at school and as a shallow lazy cow the only thing that motivated me to work harder was reward!

Yank - the 1.5 is amazing and it's a joy to hear you starting to get back on track. I hope it continues.

Trills - I'm not really into work politics but was always a 'work latest' type person in my old job - and it did get noticed and US bosses do love it (seems to be their modus operandi). Of course it does depend on how your company views these sort of things. I know I'm being totally un pc and work/life balance is all important (blah blah blah) and you'll hate me but....from my own experience doing the hard slog pre DC has been worth doing - of course it was easier for me as DH worked at the same company.

I would never ever be able to do those sort of hours now (and I wouldn't want to) - in fact I'm the first to leave (!) but it took me a long time to get to this point.

Are you cross with me for saying that? I just want to be honest with you because I know it's not right that they expect you to work late but sometimes it pays off.

Hands out soothing cups of tea to lizzy, Fanny and Alice in the hope it revives them after horrid sleepless nights/early mornings.

Mittz · 07/07/2010 09:50

Yayy for Wasting's Band.

Thank-you for your lovely card DiB.. it made me smile.

The horrible horrible pit of depression seems to have passed, I am still a bit low and tearful now.

Yank.. (( )) xx Love you Lady, keep on keeping on.

DiB, Has DS had his eyes tested. DD's headaches have almost cleared since we got hers done. Also cut out Oranges as triggers for migraines. It is worth checking up.

DeFluffy · 07/07/2010 09:55

wheres bitter to do the round up? i have been called away on urgent dodo crap business.

dont make me go back and read everything im near death (still) with my ebola-cold. although at least my keyboard appears to be working again, almost.

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 10:07

Hells I will work late if it is:
a) an emergency
or
b) something I know about in advance
or
c) I really have nothing to do that evening

Last night was neither a nor b, and I had plans.

In fact I think not being there occassionally might make them realise how crucial I am to this while project If I'm in the UK and they are in the US (and since there are some people in my team over here who seem to not like their homes) I will never be the one to work the latest, so I have to demonstrate my usefulness by producing things that other people just wouldn't be able to do produce.

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 10:08

(and no of course I don't hate you)

Yank usually does a pretty good roundup.

Mittz · 07/07/2010 10:20

does no one miss my round ups?

just a minute...

jetcat · 07/07/2010 10:29
Mittz · 07/07/2010 10:35

jetcat · 07/07/2010 10:37

Vinny - i desparately want to move away from here. Shall i come to the lakes as well, and we can be each other's support network?

Bella, sorry DS is being a pain re school work. My sympathies, sometimes it just feels like we should put the same sentences on repeat on a microphone or something - maybe then they will get the message

Yay for the band poster

And huge congrats to Yank - a stone and a half is fab Well done you!

Can i ask a favour, now that you all seem to be losing again, i need to get my butt in gear, but as i am not going for my weigh ins with the nurse, will you MAKE me post any gain loss on here each Monday? Pretty please?? That way i can stop kidding myself and actually face reality

hellsbelles · 07/07/2010 10:41

three cheers for Mitt's round up

Morning Jet!

Trills - you are far more sorted and sensible than I was. I had to impress them with my slog rather than brains (and the fact that by being around I sometimes got projects just because I was there)!

Sounds like you have it figured. I still do find the US work ethic (and working for US companies) very frustrating. I truly don't think they work harder they just want to do the 'hours' (I used to work with a German company as well and they were far more productive but always left on time and took proper holidays). I can't remember the exact rule but I'm pretty sure that in the first year of employment in the US my old company didn't allow holidays? WTF! i remember how cross our Chairman was when we explained to him this wasn't legal in the UK!

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 10:44

The funny thing is that I know the guys in the US all bog off at 3 or 4 every Friday, because they can. Whereas if we did that it would be 10am their time and we would get the face. I don't think they do long hours over there.

I have it sort-of sorted, except not really. I think I have a plan f what I wil and won't do, but it all falls apart if they put on pressure, and there's no guarantee that they will be impressed at all.

jetcat · 07/07/2010 10:49

yay for the roundup Mittz

Trills, i must have missed it, but hope you not too stressed at work, hope you are ok.

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 10:53

Thanks Jet I am trying out not saying yes to everything. We'll see if this results in more respect for what I do do or in me not having a job...

jetcat · 07/07/2010 10:58

ooh i think it should mean more respect - as it means the things you do do will be done a) better because you have more time, and b)with more focus.

fingers crossed your colleagues see it that way
