Hi all,

I am sure loads of you have followed misdee's posts about her dh, Peter, who needs a heart transplant urgently.

His op tomorrow will buy him some time, but a heart transplant will be needed very soon.

So many people have posted with love and hugs, asking what they could do to help etc. and misdee has previously mentioned carrying donor cards or going on the Organ Donor Register , but I'm sure many of you, like me, feel utterly powerless to assist in any other useful way at all.

Well....

Now there is something you can do.

Harefield Hospital is about 60 miles away from misdee's house and as she is still learning to drive, her folks or her sister, sparklymieow, give her a lift several times a week. The petrol for the trip costs about £10 for the return journey. As you can imagine, doing this every other day soon adds up. If you can, will you sponsor a journey to Harefield ?

Whilst misdee is away from her kids, she also needs baby sitting services, which also add to the cost of each visit. Any sum at all can be used to cover a baby sitter to give misdee a break so she can spend some time with Peter. Could you donate whatever it costs you to hire a babysitter for an hour ?

Peter is facing a pretty major operation tomorrow, and I thought it might be nice to show support by offloading some of this financial burden from misdee, just so life is that little bit easier IYSWIM. She has enough to handle without getting into debt to fund visits to the hospital.

I have run this by MN HQ who have been really supportive of the idea. If more money than needed comes in, misdee can donate it to the Heart Unit at Harefield Hospital, which is under threat of closure.

One of Peter's inspirations in this terrifying journey is a guy called John Fisher. He had his transplant on the 30th July 2000. You can read more at his site here . Accordingly, MN HQ will collect cheques made payable to S Williams until 30th July 2005:

Mumsnet misdee
PO Box 657
Ipswich
IP1 9AE

You can also make a contribution by paypal directly to misdee's paypal address which is djmisdee @ hotmail.nospam.com

(remove the spaces and the .nospam).

misdee, I hope you will allow everyone on MN who cares for you to help you out a little and we hope Peter's heart comes soon.

Please be generous lovely MNers, all of it will help.

Feel free to bump until 30th July !

I think you might get charged if you put quasi cash, giraffeski, is that right?

Janh · 06/07/2005 09:19

Yes, quasi-cash means your bank might charge you - I think service is best.

Angeliz · 06/07/2005 09:19

Janh, can i open an account without deleting dp's?

marjoriedawessassy · 06/07/2005 09:20

What's the address for mumsnet towers for those of us without paypal?

Fab idea H2D -well done.

Prayers for Peter and misdee today.

Janh · 06/07/2005 09:20

Is there a logout button on the page you have, angeliz?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/07/2005 09:20

its in the original message

Janh · 06/07/2005 09:22

Oh, you aren't logged in yet if you don't know his password, are you? If you have your own email account you can set up a new account for yourself.

Can't think of a nicer thing for Misdee.

tamum · 06/07/2005 09:34

You can't do quasi-cash outside the US, so I would try services. Thanks a lot for doing this hub2dee, I have been wondering how to help.

gingerbear · 06/07/2005 09:38

bump

SaintGeorge · 06/07/2005 09:39

Wonderful idea - can't do anything today but as soon as payday arrives I will send something.

puska · 06/07/2005 09:39

what a lovely lovely idea hub2dee, mines in the post, everything is crossed for peter x

feelingold · 06/07/2005 09:40

I haven't posted on any of Misdee's threads cos I feel so utterly useless when someone is in such need, but at least by sending a cheque I might be able to help very slightly practically.
Well done hub and good luck misdee, Peter and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

emily05 · 06/07/2005 09:41

SaintGeorge - I had a similar problem could only donate a small amount, so I was wondering hub will this still be aplicable come the 20th July when we get paid so I can donate some more? (iyswim) I am assuming that he expenses will be ongoing? (hope that makes sense!)
