Help misdee and Peter - NOW

Hi all,

I am sure loads of you have followed misdee's posts about her dh, Peter, who needs a heart transplant urgently.

His op tomorrow will buy him some time, but a heart transplant will be needed very soon.

So many people have posted with love and hugs, asking what they could do to help etc. and misdee has previously mentioned carrying donor cards or going on the Organ Donor Register , but I'm sure many of you, like me, feel utterly powerless to assist in any other useful way at all.

Well....

Now there is something you can do.

Harefield Hospital is about 60 miles away from misdee's house and as she is still learning to drive, her folks or her sister, sparklymieow, give her a lift several times a week. The petrol for the trip costs about £10 for the return journey. As you can imagine, doing this every other day soon adds up. If you can, will you sponsor a journey to Harefield ?

Whilst misdee is away from her kids, she also needs baby sitting services, which also add to the cost of each visit. Any sum at all can be used to cover a baby sitter to give misdee a break so she can spend some time with Peter. Could you donate whatever it costs you to hire a babysitter for an hour ?

Peter is facing a pretty major operation tomorrow, and I thought it might be nice to show support by offloading some of this financial burden from misdee, just so life is that little bit easier IYSWIM. She has enough to handle without getting into debt to fund visits to the hospital.

I have run this by MN HQ who have been really supportive of the idea. If more money than needed comes in, misdee can donate it to the Heart Unit at Harefield Hospital, which is under threat of closure.

One of Peter's inspirations in this terrifying journey is a guy called John Fisher. He had his transplant on the 30th July 2000. You can read more at his site here . Accordingly, MN HQ will collect cheques made payable to S Williams until 30th July 2005:

Mumsnet misdee
PO Box 657
Ipswich
IP1 9AE

You can also make a contribution by paypal directly to misdee's paypal address which is djmisdee @ hotmail.nospam.com

(remove the spaces and the .nospam).

misdee, I hope you will allow everyone on MN who cares for you to help you out a little and we hope Peter's heart comes soon.

Please be generous lovely MNers, all of it will help.

Feel free to bump until 30th July !

soapbox · 09/07/2005 18:42

Misdee- don't forget though that if you rent on a normal lease you will have to sign up for a minimum 6 month tenancy.

Of course you could find a holiday rental but they tend to be much more expensive!

misdee · 09/07/2005 18:50

think i'll just see if ican book the family room a few times then. will book once he is back on the ward.

Just in case

Davros · 11/07/2005 17:15

I have never used Paypal before. How do I do it? DH has an account, do I have to wait for him to tell me his password? I tried logging in using Misdee's email but don't have a password so it didn't work. Sorry if this is v dumb!

Flamesparrow · 11/07/2005 17:18

Yup - you need Dh to log in first. It will then give you a bar at the top with various titles. You need "make Payment" or withdrawal or something... it will then give you a place to type in misdee's email addy.

Davros · 11/07/2005 17:20

Thanks Flamesparrow. I did have an account at one time myself or I could set one up. I may just post a cheque

Flamesparrow · 11/07/2005 17:27

I love paypal.

I'm too forgetful to manage cheques

misdee · 11/07/2005 17:51

Thanking all of you. i had to let the DWP know today that peter is in hospital as he has been in alost 4weeks. they are stopping his money untill he comes back home. so we are down £240-ish a month.

MrsGordonRamsay · 11/07/2005 17:53

WTF

Flamesparrow · 11/07/2005 17:54

misdee · 11/07/2005 17:54

Janh · 11/07/2005 17:59

That's ridiculous! All your expenses are exactly the same - worse in fact because of the travelling - how the hell do they work that out?

its the way the situation works. he was awarded high rate care, as his car is now being provided by the hospital they stop paying him. that money helped with taxis, travel etc.

misdee · 11/07/2005 18:04

his care not his car

MrsGordonRamsay · 11/07/2005 18:09

Oh give me strength
